  • The First Emperor of China (Qin Shihuang) famously consumed mercury because it was thought to preserve his youth. The search for eternal youth leads us to myriad modern-day creams, balms, tonics, lifts, and tucks--but can they really help us age gracefully? Join Bay Area Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner Amy Petrarca, MS, RN, Lac. in an exploration of the fundamentals of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Great respect for tackling such a wide topic. It can not be easy. But the presenter employed so many diff. ways, breath, humility, humor, cats :) to keep her audience engaged and interested, I respect that. Any such talk serves as a bridge to more learning. Thank you.

This is a nice intro context-wise. Would have liked to see the slides shown and pictures of what was passed around. A list of names and resources as well as book titles mentioned would be good too put into the comments or separate video frame

It is wise not to completely ignore the health strengthening and healing effects of Traditional Chinese Medicine...

appreciate the lecture and book recommendations although i agree that it was difficult staying with it throughout, especially the first 15 minutes of double introduction. i would've preferred a broader variety of different tcm topics and to have the view of the screen rather than the speaker and audience most of the time.

Very good introduction for beginners. As someone who is already familiar, I wish it was less philosophical and a little bit more deep.

30 mins into the lecture, she actually starts lecturing. Its taken me 2 days to listen to this longwinded talk that covers everything else but the main topic! So frustrating!

id like to say a couple of things about the yin and yang aspect of wood part, because as she said it sounds like there is not an explanation why, or that is something that you have to accept like "on faith".
    1) the huangdi neijing explains why they are
    2) we have to pay attention to names. the wood element does not refer to actual wood, it refers to wood style movement of energy, also in chinese medicine they are not called elements(there is a reason), it is an english translation. the "wood element " has its own particularities and traits but is also like a folder name, same as yin or yang. for example yang is the sunny side of a hill and the male is also yang, but if u take it literally the sunny side of a hill has nothing to do with a male.

She's nice and I liked to listen to her even though she talked about anything but the three treasures, four levels and five elements which happened to be the topic of this lecture. lol

Ditched this video after 15 minutes and a billion um, uh, so..... And still hasn't even begun to address the topic. Having knowledge of the topic is important but so is staying focused and being an interesting presenter.

Great topic, but the lecturer doesnt even start to talk about the topic until 15 minutes in, and even then the info is not so concentrated. Bad sign for what the rest of the video holds in regard to content (can we get to the point, please!).

I agree that the speaker isn't focused and not much time is actually spent educating. It's also unfortunate that the presentation the audience is seeing and the speaker is discussing is not visible.

Yes, I'm 30 minutes in and I've given up, this person may know what they are talking about, but they definitely need help with organising and presenting things. And you can't see the slides. Sorry.

i would love to listen but i can't to long winded ... it be nice if she took speech classes with less um's uh's and introduction let us learn the knowledge and then we will automatically want to know everything about the Teacher ...I can tell she's nervous as hell I'm sure she has great info but Delivery of that info is key
