Are you still in the UK an is that gonna be yalls second house for when your visiting family?
yo alec, when it comes to it do you want me to give you some tips on plastering? :D
Dude! Huge congratulations! I especially like the poop bedroom
Hello Bobby, fancy seeing you here
Oh it’s you. Nice to se ya Bobby boy!
The poop bedroom is really what changes it from just a house to really being a home. Congratulations Alex!
Thank you 🙏🏻
That's pretty bad that the dog was running around outside that whole time and then comes in and takes a s*** that dog needs to learn some respect!! Lol

Congratulations on being a homeowner! Just a tip though; when doing demo work, the larger the chunk you remove, the easier it is to clean up!
But smashing things into tiny bits is so much more fun.
@@eaglpaul1 sure is totally worth the extra time to clean up
It's both sad and mildly humorous that he has to put a disclaimer to NOT invade his personal life. Let's just hope people listen. Best of luck to you Alec.
@Paul Taylor And that's exactly the kind of thought process that makes such a disclaimer necessary. Just because he chooses to share some aspects of his personal life does not constitute an open invitation to encroach on the things he does not wish to share.
@@ninefingersnate3733 well said!
Except yes it does in both the UK and usa. It makes you a public person under the law. And that removes your right to sue for slander or libel. Its like those Yahoo's that accept Facebook tos and then post about how Facebook doesn't have the right to use your data even though you agreed to it in the tos.
Let's say you knock on his door, I'm sure he'll tell you to piss off and there you have it, that's a visit, reasonably peaceful. Continue to be on his premises and it's also a trespass. Take some photos when he opens the door and it's invasion of privacy. Hang around in the streets with hundreds of others and I'm sure somehow you're breaching the peace. Unfortunately the paparazzi have a habit of pulling this kind of stunt, whether you give them your address or not. That's what he doesn't want. That's why he requested no visitors. 🙄
@@joshschneider9766 You obviously have very little understanding of any privacy laws...... Just because you have a TH-cam channel doesn't automatically give people the right to wander up to your house and invite themselves in, and anyone doing so is guilty of Trespass at the very least.
Your comment about Slander and Libel is also absolute drivel.
The whole reason behind every single Slander and Libel court case ever is that somebody in the public eye is trying to defend their character against untrue accusations (either in spoken or written form) made against them....... if they weren't allowed to, then the whole point behind these terms would cease to exist, and therefore there would be no such offense under Law.
Your "understanding" of the Law would seem to make Stalking and Aggravated Trespass completely legal too then would it?
Looking great, it should be a wonderful home once its cleaned up. Its sad that we live in a world where you have to ask people to respect your privacy instead of trusting that they would just know to do that. This last year I have had several people show up uninvited and unannounced even though my address isn't listed on any of my videos or web site. One guy said he had been looking for hours, that should have been a clue.
oh that sounds awful, sorry you had to experience that.
It should be common sense that if you're not personally invited to someone's home or you've not requested permission to visit a person especially if you're a complete stranger to them, you don't have a right be accepted or catered to when you show up out of the blue.
This is one of the primary reasons why I have not started a TH-cam channel. I just don't want to have to deal with all the crazies that come with it.
Sorry to hear that. Thankfully out where I live there's plenty of privacy loving, shotgun wielding southerners to help people mind their own business!
The only way I would ever show up at a someone's home is invited and bringing food.
If Alec is going to do a series on home remodeling, I can't wait to see what metally-contraptions and innovations he decides to install!
Think of all of the fabricobbling
I like how firm he was, “your are absolutely not welcome to come and stop by …. Do not come to our house” not that he was rude but it shows professionalism and authority. Good job and congratulations
Well, this IS the internet, to make sure every last idiot and all the crazies get the message, you gotta assert dominance.

Not gonna lie, the heartfelt thank you cut directly with the “refurbishment” was brilliant.
I love the firm, no nonsense statement on respecting your privacy message at the end. You are absolutely right and everyone who watches you especially those for a long time knows how important respect and privacy is for someone and their family.
So happy to see this Alec! Remember finding you years ago when you just started vlogs and talking about your work and learning and teaching from the first Workshop.
Amazing to see your progress and what you've achieved is immense!!!
Kinda sad that he has to remind people to respect their privacy…
People don't realise that Alec (or other public figures) is not our friend. This relationship is just business to customer with extra customer care.
I'm gathering this has been an issue by the fact that he had to say something about it.
i absolutely agree ... it is a sad state of the world .
So let me get this straight... They take the time and effort to select a house with a pre-installed rat-flap (because cat-flaps are so last century) to make the local rodent population feel welcome, but us fans aren't welcome? /s
(it's also kinda sad that I need to clarify that this is sarcasm in this day and age!)
While being a Fan is nice and good, it doesn't mean you should just try to find their place and jump out of a bush screaming _„I am a fan!“_
Not that it matters much in a year or so, when Alec isn't even in England... While I love it to have up to date videos and not videos that are months old, it is always an option to just show videos from America when you are in England and the other way around.
It is just sad that he maybe even has to do something like that, but I hope that there were only a few times something like that happened and that most of us don't try to invade Alecs privacy like that.
...nonetheless, as a fan I am going to say that a meet and greet would be fun.
Its frikin wicked how i started watching him back before he even had 50k and was still living in england still trying to get financially stable. And now he is doing better than ever expected! Congratulations on the house! And eager to see your future endeavors!
Alec I've been watching you for years. I've been a hobby smith for several years, you've been a huge inspiration to me this whole time. Congratulations on winning in life. Much respect for the shout out. Not alot of people are willing to stop and thank people.
While you've got it all torn up you may want to consider upgrading the wiring. Having modern wiring for power can make a difference. Also consider adding ethernet and co-ax to all the rooms.
Ethernet and co-ax…… lol. Why not install a VHS recorder and a CD player too.
@@MrJonnyd55 wired will always beat wireless internet. And the coax is nice so you can put a cable modem in any room.
@@MrJonnyd55 Ethernet wiring still has uses. I installed it in 1999, just before the WiFi era. We used it for a few years before it seemed obsolete. Fast forward another 15 years and it turned out to be a boon when we upgraded our TV/telecom service which required wire runs from the gateway. Also can be useful in a large home that needs multiple WiFi access points for good coverage.
@@billtheunjust exactly this. wired is way more stable. even if the ethernet in the rooms just get used to connect a wifi mesh point, the will be worth it

I had the same issue with the suspended timber floor down stairs and damp walls. I ripped up all the timber floor and injected a new dpc. I thought the situation was something like that. Kudos to you for making the best of the situation. The garden looks gorgeous. I couldn't help but laugh at "the dehumidifier has been running for a few hours and already getting full" since here in Texas that time period would have meant emptying the bucket at least twice. Been watching you for what feels like forever now. Just about 6-7 years. Love the progress your business has made!
Hope to see you back in Merica one day, but am thankful to still be able to watch your videos regardless!
Alec, since you’re not in the US shop right now, would you consider letting one or two of your staff there do a project or two for the channel? Do you have craftspeople there?
Typical of houses without a proper foundation barrier near a garden. French drain, and an engineered water collection system should fix the problem. One house i restored maybe 10 years ago had massive flooding issues + 20 cm in the rainy season inside the basement. We fixed it with barriers and a massive 5 meters deep, 1 meter wide (concrete sewer liner) pit, in which we threw about one meter's worth of gravel to stop it from creating ice.
It was so efficient, that the neighbor's adjacent house also stopped having water issues in his wall.
Did the neighbor chip in? :P
Also if it’s on stumps, I know the au/nz standards state you need at least 300mm from ground to barer. I’ve had to pull up entire subfloors to dig out dirt from houses before and I tel you it sucks!
Moisture seeps through the ground and causes a lot of moisture under the house, under the sub floor and inevitable mould. Something to check out
What's wrong with fixing the DPC?
Congrats Alec! So many fantastic youtubers have being crossing milestones lately and I love to see it. Someone mentioned a 17 part renovation series in the comments and I know I'd be in on that too.
As much as we liked having you here in America, I enjoy you just as much in the UK and it honestly didn't make your videos any better or worse. Glad to see you buying a house and "making the best of it"!
amazing that it needs to be said "do not come to our house". I would imagine it quite rude to just show up to someone's home without first having permission to do so. Secondly, seems as though the Mrs. has become more comfortable with her appearance on the channel, as there seems to be more of her on at least this episode. Hope to see you back in Montana, and hope when you do get back, you do a colab with Will.
This last year I have had several people show up uninvited and unannounced even though my address isn't listed on any of my videos or web site. One guy said he had been looking for hours, that should have been a clue.

It's a fine line to walk being a warm, approachable personality that viewers can connect with and also making it clear that your private life is your own. As a teacher I have similar issues but far less stalker-like... in most cases.
Some people don't view celebrities as private people, even their place of living should be open to the public. I don't know why someone would think that. But just looking at what happens with the bigger youtubers with children as fans, where the parents bring them to the youtubers house and expect the youtuber to welcome them in and let their child do whatever they want. It's crazy what people think they are entitled to when they just watch someone online.

I'm glad Alec added this part at the end of the video, but in case people didn't watch to the end, I'm just going to echo it here: You are being given a glimpse of the home AT ALEC'S CHOOSING, but you are NOT ALLOWED to go to this place for any reason. Please respect the Steele Family's privacy, you are not allowed to visit for any reason. It looks like a great home and I can't wait to see it finished and watch the whole 80 part remodel series where you break stuff and fix stuff and break something else and fix other stuff while trying to figure out if you need a new something or if you can just build it

Get the electrics done, it’s looks it hasn’t been touched since it got built! I remember when you didn’t have a millions subs. Well done 💪
Yes yes yes!!!
Get an electrician in to look at EVERYTHING from the mains incomer, the board and all the wiring!
A house of that age potentially used a type of wiring call VRI or VIR wiring (Vulcanised Rubber Insulation/Vulcanised Indian Rubber). Over time the sheathing becomes VERY brittle and can fall off with the slightest disturban e (such as knocking down fixtures and fittings and walls nearby) exposing wires and is responsible for a HUGE number of spontaneous electrical fires over the years.
So if you're ripping walls open and exposing wiring (as you are) then its worth getting it inspected and *considering* whether it might be beneficial to spend some money (I know, easy for me to say, hard to do) and get the house rewired now, to prevent problems in the future.

The state of this place looks all too familiar...are you sure someone lived there before? :) Excited to see what you do with the place!
Nice to know you also like Alec's content! You have an amazing channel, keep on your great work!
We bought a house with my girlfriend and had 7:00 slap in the face also. Whole wood plank floor needed to be gone, old wet woodchip insulation dug out (about 20x150liter sacks of shoveling) right around this summer that was also super nice +28-30c all the time :) Glad we got it done though. Even the scaffolding (or whatever its called) under the floor was rotten from the moisture and needed to be rebuilt to support new floor.
I mean it's no Angrycops crack house.
Not sure the neighbors would want the shop as much as we do lol, I can see the value going up as the demolition commences, they do say you make your money on purchasing not selling, great work guys looking forward to more of this content
I can feel you. Just bought a house two months ago. It's a ton of work. But we just moved in a half finished house and its the best thing we've done ever. And yes, I now have two workshops to setup, the dream of every maker to have your very own space.
Who in their right mind puts laminate flooring over hardwood?
Beautiful home. Congrats!
Someone hiding all the rot accumulated on what was a home with great bones! The flooring was cheap Chinese bamboo and thin, thin , thin, the built ins catalog items made from MDF with veneer on it- wet, rotting plaster walls covered by cheap wall paper. I don't care if the previous owner did that job of a "flipper" did it- it wouldn't have passed any codes inspection in texas or Louisiana where I have worked. I also doubt that a bank would have knowingly underwritten a loan if they had any knowledge of the poor quality- bankers, even fast dealing, British ones, like to see strong positive value added to protect the property- that isn't what I just saw removed from that house. FR
@@fredericrike5974 I think you underestimate the average person's awful, awful taste. Never attribute to malice what can be explained by incompetence.
The previous owner of the house we bought a couple of months before did it. Awesome looking, 30-40 years old hardwood floor, that only needed some love and care - but he was so smart, and laid a layer of extruded foil(? that foamy type of film for maybe heat insulation?) all over it, and put down some presumably second hand laminate. The original hardwood floor started to rot and mold; I was able to scrape it up like wet cardboard...... Of course the original "glue", a tar-like material was untouched by the damp environment, so we had to chisel that thing up. Nice times, nice times..
if the hardwood flooring has gaps, air gaps, and is uninsulated, then it's a decent choice.
not all hardwood or wood floorings are ideal living surfaces, despite their nice appearance
Leaving the hardfloor there and cover it to make it impossible to it to breathe and get rid of any moisture is a decent choice? Tell this to the 10 months old baby of theirs who lived in that room, with that blackish, nice smelling mold. :-D
I think its time for a ‘Alec Steele Life’ youtube channel for all these sorts of videos; houses, garden, cars, travelling etc. would be nice having more frequent casual videos like these, great fun to watch. Congratulations to you both :)
You mean.. "Life Steele" videos?
Dont stop here.. i need to see the progress and finish results.. congrats and much love from Malaysia❤️
I have learned so much from Alec Steel, and all of his collaborators. So inspiring. You deserve to have a comfortable, safe place to sleep
Alec: A nice small garage, about 5m x 6m
Everyone in UK Suburbia: That's huge! I only have 2m x 3m enough for 1 car and a toolbox!
Everyone in UK Cities: What's a garage? That's the size of my whole flat!
The Americans have spoiled him. 😏
@@AdmiralStoicRum this. I was just thinking “man. Sucks that his garage is so small”
Americans: damn. that's only 2.19x2.62 bald eagles. I don't think my two F750's and duce and a half will fit in there...
@@SignalJones i own a two story town home at 1500 square freedoms. Almost half the bottom footprint is a two care garage which makes it around 25 wide and 17 long in freedoms.
The actual question I have is “can Alec Steele possess something without it being a project”.
Blacksmith, blade smith, carpenter, contractor. I wonder, if I bought you a book, would you suddenly become an author?
Not that I would ever dream of finding your home and coming by, but that was quite the mood shift there at the end of the video.
I agree
I look forward to watching you and your father build the cabinets for the kitchen. Take a 3 week vacation at a mexican resort sounds like a good way to get back into the United States.
Congrats!!! I bought my first house and remodeled it during the shutdown last year here in the states. Have fun!
The wholesome speech mixed in with utter chaos is gold
Well, Alec isn't doing too bad for himself!
Congrats!
Alec couldn't just get a house and live in it?
Alec: gets new house
Also Alec: destroys new house.
tO bE fAiR
All the damp and rot he has discovered means the destruction was inevitable. (Heck, probably made the financing affordable!)
😂😂😂 that’s what we did too
I would have done the same. Beautiful exterior. Interior is terribly dated.
Don't think of it so much as "Alec Destroys new house" but more as "Alec Reforges new house".
@@thulsadoon i mean statistics say it's probably a child writing the comment so you really couldn't blame them for not knowing any better about it lol
Been here since Barker St. Still remember when you were terrified of the idea of making a sword. Glad I could help
the last ten seconds took me by suprise, im so used to hearing you happy and joyful. i DEFINITELY paid attention
Maybe he is fed up from all the visits to the shop, or worried about his wife, you know people who watch youtube can be weird, specially if you think is ok to visit a stranger
Alec I’m super excited for you guys moving into your first home! We became new homeowners in June. It’s been great!
Jesus, that's a hell of a first house. Fair play, what you've achieved is absolutely staggering.
There's a good chance it's a fixer upper that recieved set dressing and rough possible internals. That was my first place, a teeny postage stamp yard in a rougher neighborhood. It was cheap. It was close to work and we moved out after the first speeding drive by. We ended up moving into a trailer
It's a bit of a fixer upper in that it's dated in some respects but actually quite grand. That's getting on for a million pounds worth of house in the UK, if not more. Houses are insanely expensive here
Was just going to say that, looking at the area (probably down south somewhere) that's easily a million pound ($1.4m) first home, even with a dated interior. Not bad going 👍
Anyone from the UK knows that house is a huge flex... and man you've earned it! Congratulations mate😘
Anyone in the US knows that as well, even if you have to pretty much redo everything.
@@garethbaus5471 well it seems to be one extreme or the other over there! apartment in NYC can cost millions or a stunning house and plenty of land in louisiana can cost just a couple hundred thousand... madness!
@@oMaGicKsv in the parts of the US where you can buy a mansion for a few hundred thousand dollars the jobs are bad enough that it might as well be a billion dollars.
I remember your dirt floor shop, and watching you make your first knives. Thank you Alec for all the fun in between.
couple things, firstly, stack your material vertically in a skip, you'll get more in because it'll reduce the amount of voids, also a 12 yard skip will most likely be cheaper overall because it's for bulky waste rather than heavy stuff like soil and/or masonry
