I love Love Actually. It showed all sides to love - not just the happiness of it but the absolute gut wrenching heartbreak of it. I felt so bad for him in this moment but at least glad she got to find out how he really felt and not kept it bottled inside. They could never be together but at least there was an understanding to keep things civil and coexist.
At 3:53 ,that traumatic realization of your feelings being exposed, which comes along with the fact that you just forgot your jacket inside and the weather is freezing, however going back to take it means seeing her again, and the pondering back and forth he does, I would not be surprised If the actor did go through something similar in his life. I really like this movie.

As a man who's been in his position, this scene captures reality very well! It's very painful to love someone who doesn't even see it. On one hand you don't want to be rejected by her, on the other you reject your life without her in it. It's like choosing between jumping off the cliff, or continuing living a life in agony. Neither option is good, but one _must_ me taken.

When u see the person u really want to be with everyday and u have to talk to them like they're just another person is heart wrenching. This is so similar to my current situation. I actually told my best friend I loved her, which was met with a "I love you as a friend." I don't know if my love for her is romantic or strictly platonic, but I care and respect her enough to know it's better left unexplored. Honestly, as a lonely 22 year old man who has never dated before, it's kind of nice knowing someone other than family cares about me as a person. People get bored, people fall out of love, they want something new, etc. It’s just human nature. If you have a friend that you love, and they love you, it’s better to leave it that way. They’re your family, but not in a romantic way. That romantic stuff is overrated. It complicates things, and like I said, it never lasts. In my experience anyways. Just stick together as companions through life and it can never end badly. Broken hearts have destroyed more people than any weapon ever could

The guy is asked to make a video of her wedding, but instead he makes creepy footage of her (which he tries to hide from her, wonder what he does with it?) and says the wedding video got "lost". And he is soooo "in love" with her despite never talking to her? That's not love, that's lust/obsession. Then, to make things worse, he comes to her house (where she lives with her husband) with the signs. Stalkery much? Then again, I blame the movie. IRL, the woman would probably be embarrassed, possibly upset, humiliated or angry. Instead, Keirra's character is intrigued and flattered. Love actually is beautifully shot, they absolutely nailed the Christmas atmosphere and some of the non-romantic relationships are great, but the "love stories"... yikes. The "stand-in met half-naked on set" couple is easily the healthiest one, and they're the movie's running joke.
long before I realised fully the divine inspiration that came to Richard Curtis as he made this movie (present in so many great scenes and ideas and pieces of music), I already cottoned on to the way that the scene from Juliet's arrival through to the time when Mark goes out on the street and kicks himself for not being more forthcoming (and shouts and even scares a real-life passer-by!) "actually" represent the greatest, best-acted, most moving and authentic-looking evocation of overwhelming, infatuated love in the history of the cinema. As so beautifully accompanied by music from Craig Armstrong and Dido Armstrong. So proud that Britain and London could generate something as marvellous and durable as this - of course thanks also to the Holy Spirit, in the context of a movie designed to help us get past the evil and misery of 9/11. Thanks be to God!
As sad as this moment is, I have always liked the fact that he was such a good friend. He kept a respectful distance and was genuinely happy for his mate. Later on, he confesses all to her and then walks away, saying enough, is him finally able to move on. It shows however painful unrequited love is, it does not mean the love he has in the friendship is spoilt.
The thing is, this rarely happens in real life. They just create these scenarios for the movies. The best friend of my ex-boyfriend was downright condescending to me while I was with my boyfriend. He would shun invitations from us to hang out, always make excuses to do something else, and then when I was separated from my boyfriend, I invited his friend to have a talk with me, since we were going to be working on film projects together, and I wanted us to clear the air. He told me that he I was the most amazing and driven woman he had ever known, but he never explained that his condescending attitude and occasional rudeness were because of "self-preservation," and we never had a conversation about it again nor have I seen him in person in some 10 years. Even if it is so-called "self-preservation" because the guy's trying to protect his feelings, it's kind of crappy that the girl has to feel so confused and in the dark about it for so long when she just wants to be friendly.

It's something that, while inwardly acknowledged, doesn't need to be overly indulged in. Just because a man finds an attached woman attractive, or vice-versa, doesn't mean he's "in love" or whatever. Love needs to be able to take root in order to grow. A lot of people confuse infatuation for being in love. Realistically, I don't see someone being in love with a person they can't spend a significant amount of intimate time with, if that other person is in a relationship with someone else. If they think they are, it's probably because they're "idealizing" that person and indulging in fantasies about being with them in order to fill a void somewhere else. Wanting what we can't have is as old as human existence.

It hurt to hear that, due to a situation I was in, but it made sense. The guy is asked to make a video of her wedding, but instead he makes creepy footage of her (which he tries to hide from her, wonder what he does with it?) and says the wedding video got "lost". And he is soooo "in love" with her despite never talking to her? That's not love, that's lust/obsession.
Then, to make things worse, he comes to her house (where she lives with her husband) with the signs. Stalkery much?
Then again, I blame the movie. IRL, the woman would probably be embarrassed, possibly upset, humiliated or angry. Instead, Keirra's character is intrigued and flattered.
Love actually is beautifully shot, they absolutely nailed the Christmas atmosphere and some of the non-romantic relationships are great, but the "love stories"... yikes. The "stand-in met half-naked on set" couple is easily the healthiest one, and they're the movie's running joke.

long before I realised fully the divine inspiration that came to Richard Curtis as he made this movie (present in so many great scenes and ideas and pieces of music), I already cottoned on to the way that the scene from Juliet's arrival through to the time when Mark goes out on the street and kicks himself for not being more forthcoming (and shouts and even scares a real-life passer-by!) "actually" represent the greatest, best-acted, most moving and authentic-looking evocation of overwhelming, infatuated love in the history of the cinema. As so beautifully accompanied by music from Craig Armstrong and Dido Armstrong. So proud that Britain and London could generate something as marvellous and durable as this - of course thanks also to the Holy Spirit, in the context of a movie designed to help us get past the evil and misery of 9/11. Thanks be to God!

As sad as this moment is, I have always liked the fact that he was such a good friend. He kept a respectful distance and was genuinely happy for his mate. Later on, he confesses all to her and then walks away, saying enough, is him finally able to move on. It shows however painful unrequited love is, it does not mean the love he has in the friendship is spoilt.
Love or hate this film it touches so many emotions. One of the greats.

The thing is, this rarely happens in real life. They just create these scenarios for the movies. The best friend of my ex-boyfriend was downright condescending to me while I was with my boyfriend. He would shun invitations from us to hang out, always make excuses to do something else, and then when I was separated from my boyfriend, I invited his friend to have a talk with me, since we were going to be working on film projects together, and I wanted us to clear the air. He told me that he I was the most amazing and driven woman he had ever known, but he never explained that his condescending attitude and occasional rudeness were because of "self-preservation," and we never had a conversation about it again nor have I seen him in person in some 10 years. Even if it is so-called "self-preservation" because the guy's trying to protect his feelings, it's kind of crappy that the girl has to feel so confused and in the dark about it for so long when she just wants to be friendly.
You can only speak to your own experiences. This love isn't rare just because you haven't experienced it
@@brandondriver99 Well, it may have been my experience, just not as blatantly obvious as what was shown in the movie, which was mostly for dramatic effect. It's something that, while inwardly acknowledged, doesn't need to be overly indulged in. Just because a man finds an attached woman attractive, or vice-versa, doesn't mean he's "in love" or whatever. Love needs to be able to take root in order to grow. A lot of people confuse infatuation for being in love. Realistically, I don't see someone being in love with a person they can't spend a significant amount of intimate time with, if that other person is in a relationship with someone else. If they think they are, it's probably because they're "idealizing" that person and indulging in fantasies about being with them in order to fill a void somewhere else. Wanting what we can't have is as old as human existence.

@@brandondriver99 Well, yeah, obviously in the movie he was. I can tell you're like me, we look at movie characters as real people, lol. I'm just not sure it's really like this in real life. A girlfriend of mine told me one time that a man is more likely to fall in love with a woman who's less of his ideal, if she's single and available, than the woman who is perfectly his ideal but with someone else. It hurt to hear that, due to a situation I was in, but it made sense. I'm not trying to speak for men because I'm not one, but apparently men are more practical and don't like to invest their emotions in someone who is not available to them. They move on quickly. You can correct me, of course, if this is absolutely not true.
The self preservation thing is quite simple...you simply don't want to give yourself a chance or any kind of hope.

You’re right. What he did is actually incredibly creepy. He took videos only of her! That’s not said that’s just plain creepy. And the fact that we romanticize his actions is just wrong.
Stalking would imply that they didn’t know he was filming, yet they did. And presumably he didn’t intend to just film her, but ended up doing that because that was where his focus was.
