      I am deeply touched by the comparison to your father, @W_D, and I am hopeful that you and your son have now embarked on a journey that will allow the two of you to enjoy a special bond similar to that which you likely shared with your dad on the golf course.

    Tom, joined your golf system last month and am enjoying "krispy-chicken" shots on almost every iron shots now! I am a 4.1 handicap player at age 68.5 and shot a 67 last month. Today I played an excellent course (senior tee), shot 1 under 71. I had 13 out of 14 fairways, 17 out of 18 greens. Problem is putting, had 34 putts today was frustrating. Only made 2 out of 10 good birdie chances in the 15' range. Will have to revisit your putting videos. But this is a testimonial that your swing method certainly works, and WORKS WELL!!!!!!!

      Isn't it great how we old dogs can still learn new tricks? Wish I had learned Tom's secrets when I was a lot younger. Like you, my putting stats aren't the greatest--but that's what happens when you hit most of the greens. Not a bad problem to have.

    I literally listened to this for the second time. First was late at night while binge watching the Saguto channel (😄) and the second while driving down the road. Had to rewind the exact part where Tom says to throw the bucket of water over your shoulder. Got it. Kinda like Hogan’s “pull the arrow from the quiver” at top but this actually works for me. Anyway, got to my DSG hitting bay warmed up with about 10 driver swings, imagining throwing the bucket over the shoulder. First swing resulted in 285 soft draw. I have the video! I hope this is the cure to my driver woes… 🎉😂⛳️

    It's interesting that you mention Rahm. His back swing is short bx he had a club foot as a child. Jon is right at the belt buckle and stops. Tom, that trail arm tucked in has been a God send. Thx bro!

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes - I understand that about Rahm, Jason. Still, his swing provides a very helpful image for those who are struggling with shallowing the downswing path. Another Tour player with an "abbreviated" backswing worth considering is Tony Finau, and like Rahm he absolutely bombs the ball!

    Status report from a dysfunctional flipper - improved my season best by eleven shots even with some hardcore pin placements the other day (4 three putts !!!). Loving the game again Tom thanks to you - swing is good and I'm really getting the timing there. Caught your tension vid the other day and had a major breakthrough. Found I had tension in my neck to keep the head still. Now think of my head as 'floating' to remove all the tension and work my swing around it. This works brilliantly!!!!! That's an oldish vid and you may need to revisit it - a great subject. TYVM.

      Jack Nicklaus use to take 2 hours to hit a bucket of 30 balls because that’s how many shots he’d roughly hit in 9 holes. Putting time between shots is also very important, you can’t rapid fire balls on the course so why do it on the range 🤷‍♂️

      I'm glad you're enjoying my instruction, Laney!
      There has been quite a bit of dialogue in the Members' Forum of my online school on the topic of how to transport "Ranger Rick" to the golf course. We all experience that! All I can tell you is that it is part of the process, and as your practice performance becomes more and more consistent, then it's just a function of time in terms of when/how that will translate itself to the pressures and challenges of actual play. As confidence in your swing grows you should find more and more that you are playing "golf" instead of "golf swing" on the course, at which point your mechanical thoughts will be reduced to one or two at the most, and you will be nearly entirely focused on your target and not your swing.
      Have you considered joining the online school and taking your learning to the next level? That's where - in addition to detailed lessons and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step from setup to finish - you'll find diagnostic tools for identifying and resolving swing and ball flight issues when they arise as well as all my short game instruction, plus advanced level courses on shot shaping and power/distance. So many folks across the globe - including many seasoned, low-handicap, competitive players - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result. Love your channel Tom was a member on your site for a while love this swing can play high 70's low 80's with it but don't know why but it's not good on my back. Lower right side after my round is real sore I think it might be the tucking of the hips on the follow through and finish maybe I can try more around the body will help don't want to give up on it but it does hurt.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There should not be any back pain if the setup and swing are properly executed, Roy. The Stack & Tilt swing system I teach is a proven body-friendly method. I can vouch for that through my own personal experience as a golfer who previously experienced back pain, and It is further validated by the fact that a significant percentage of my students and online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built.
      For example, the outward flaring of both feet 10-20 degrees in our setup facilitates the proper amount of body-friendly, free-flowing hip turn back and through. This is a major power move that also keeps the club traveling on the correct path. If you were to square your feet so that they were perpendicular to the target line, then your hips would be impeded from turning sufficiently in the backswing (which would then inhibit the shoulders from executing a full and effortless turn), and from releasing properly in the downswing to propel the club through the zone. Restricting this action can cause a variety of path issues and/or also place strain on the lower back, lead knee, and the hip joints as the hips will "want" to move laterally and turn through into the finish but will be fighting the body in the process.
      Would you like to arrange for a swing video analysis so I can put my eyes on your setup and motion to determine what may be causing your soreness? Here is a link where you can learn more about this: saguto.golf/lessons

      I'm glad to know that you're enjoying my channel, Kevin!
      It's important to know why the ball is behaving a particular way in order to reverse engineer the cause. The ball is simply responding to the flight plan assigned to it by the clubface at impact. Clubface relative to target line is the primary influencer of the ball's starting line and face relative to path determines direction and degree of curvature.
      You should first default to checking your setup before considering any kind of swing intervention. We all fall into the trap of getting too comfortable, and we then begin to take our grip, stance, posture, alignment, ball position, etc. for granted, but without proper attention these things do tend to creep on us over time. 90% of the result is already determined before we even take the club back, yet I've seen so many folks make a mess out of an already sound swing because they overlooked or did not consider the foundational elements of the setup.
      As a beginner, you would do well to consider the comprehensive, structured, sequential learning platform of my online school. That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step from setup to finish. Additionally, you'll have access to all my short game content (putting, chipping, pitching, bunker play), advanced level content, diagnostic and corrective tools for resolving common swing, contact, and ball flight issues, and much more. Thousands of folks across the globe are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result, and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. Glad you enjoyed it, John!
      Pushes and pull-hooks are odd bedfellows, which tells me that there may be some handsy manipulations or last-second compensations taking place. So in the case of a pull-hook, the face is closed to both the target line (pull) and path (hook) at impact, which is oftentimes the case with a steep downswing. For a straight push the face is typically open to the target line and square to a more shallowed path. Video and/or a launch monitor that provides path and face angle data will be very helpful in diagnosing the culprit(s).
      By the way, there are entire sections of my online school dedicated to diagnosing and resolving common swing, contact, and ball flight issues. Have you looked into it? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish. • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Alan,
      First of all, we need to be certain that you do not roll or snatch the club open in the backswing, as I speak about in this video: th-cam.com/video/1gzcyrJ_yBw/w-d-xo.html That is definitely not what is being suggested in this "Miracle Drill", which is designed to ingrain the feel of shallowing the downswing path at the transition - an absolute necessity to the golfer who is chronically over the top.
      This impact video should help you to develop the proper feel of squaring the face without any contrived handsy manipulation: th-cam.com/video/Fe2kQ44azJ4/w-d-xo.html

Im working back from 2 fractures in my lower back and having been an athlete when I was younger, I know how to train and stay fit. But Im having trouble with this portion of my game. Lucky to be able to playing at all. Considering signing on and giving you a try. But, Ive done video stuff before and its really difficult when theres nobody there for instant feedback as you progress. . I can hit every club in my bag quite well. Get to my driver and theres a problem I need to fix. One thing that hurts, not being able to warm up with a bucket of balls before a round. Most courses here do not have a practice area. Anyway, if you have a moment, hit me back and tell me what you can do. If it theres some way to work it, I will gladly sign up and give it a try. I work at a range get to hit for free.... hundreds of balls every day and at least one day on the course. Im Rob. help me out?

    Hey Tom. I know you say golf is easy I just haven’t quite opened that door yet. I have a fade I’d like to change to straight or draw. I think my club face is open a little bit. Suggestions??

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Easy???? I don't think I've said that, John! Golf is a very difficult sport. But if we can simplify the swing so as not to rely on timing and/or exceptional hand-eye coordination, then we can achieve consistently great results without having to continuously work so hard.
      With regard to your fade, without seeing your swing or knowing the ball's starting direction and degree of curvature, it's rather impossible for me to accurately diagnose. Ball flight rules - aka shot shaping - are a function of clubface as it relates to path and target line. Clubface relative to target line dictates the ball's starting line, and clubface relative to path determines direction and degree of curvature. As you take ownership of this swing your downswing path will properly be approaching the low point on an inside track, and at this point you will then be on the correct path to take advantage of the preferred Stack & Tilt “grid”. The grid tells us that if the ball position is behind the low point - which it typically will be to some degree on standard shots for all clubs perhaps with the exception of the driver - then a clubface that is open to the target line but closed to the downswing path will produce some measure of a push-draw.
      You may be interested in looking into the SagutoGolf online school. So many folks across the globe are now playing the best golf of their lives as a result. For just $10 US/month or $99 US/year you'll have unlimited access to a comprehensive members-only learning system for the full swing along with the finer points - including a recently added course on the S&T Shot Shaping Grid which is designed to: 1) help members read and interpret their ball flight, 2) understand how to make adjustments/corrections, and 3) learn how to carve shots in both directions. This is not about a quick fix such as adjusting the face at address or tweaking your grip. While either of these may represent a component of a solution, the key is in learning why the ball is flying a certain way, what is making it do that, and then addressing the actual cause rather than the symptom. This is how you will ultimately take ownership of your swing and be able to implement the appropriate fix on the fly if the ball starts misbehaving mid-round.
      In addition to the Shot Shaping course - which in and of itself is worth many times the cost of the school - as an enrolled member you'll enjoy:
      - Unlimited access to comprehensive members-only systems for the full swing.
      - Short game courses: Chipping, Pitching, Bunker play, Putting.

      The this impact video should help you to develop the proper feel of squaring the face without any contrived handsy manipulation: th-cam.com/video/Fe2kQ44azJ4/w-d-xo.html

    if you swing to the top, making a regular backswing, and then take your left hand off the club, the right arm will move over the top. obviously, the left arm can cause a player to come over the top; but from this we can conclude that if the left arm is considerably weaker than the right arm, it may not be able to hold the right arm off. "emptying the bucket" would be one way of neutralising the right arm; or, altenatively, a player could control the club more with the wrist joint and develop the ability to hold the left arm off, or hold the right arm off with the left arm- as the case may be.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Indeed, from the very beginning of the swing the dominant lead arm is screaming, "I wanna hit; I wanna kill!", while the rest of the body utilizes all its faculties to prevent it, shouting back, "No! You wait your turn!!". Ball flight is the ultimate referee that determines with 100% accuracy the winner of each battle in this never-ending war...

      Oftentimes when golfers are challenged with the longer clubs - and especially the driver - it can be attributed to one or more of the following:
      1) They don't start with - or maintain - enough weight on the front side. In general with the longer clubs we should add a little more front weight load at address - more like 60/40 instead of the 55/45 prescribed for the other clubs. This forward weight should gradually increase to the top of the backswing (70/30) and build further on the downswing - approximately 80/20 halfway down, 90/10 impact, and 95/5 finish.
      2) Their hips are not continuing their lateral slide through impact. This is common with the longer clubs as the wider stance means that the hips have a greater distance to travel. If the hips stop moving laterally towards the target on the downswing then their rotation takes over, changing the low point and rerouting the club. This can produce a variety of undesirable results including fat and thin contact, topped shots and popups, straight pulls, and “banana” slices. Here is a drill from the Fixing Common Swing Problems section specific to building in more lateral hip slide in the downswing.
      3) They are not allowing the length of the club to dictate the backswing path and are getting too steep as a result. The shaft length of the longer clubs encourages more of an around the body backswing as established by the shaft plane at address. It may "feel" flat as you take it back along the shaft plane for the first few feet, but as long as you maintain the "weight forward, shoulder down, and hands in" components while allowing the club to work around you, it should put you in the proper position at the top so you can attack the ball from the inside.

    The “over the top CHOP” is caused by swinging the SHOULDERS!
    No matter how much I focus on hips or arms, once I start to swing with my shoulders, I’m done. 😔
    Please do a video on the SHOULDERS 🙏🏻
    Here’s the dilemma …
    1. Left shoulder down
    … got it! 👍🏻
    2. then right shoulder down to impact. Huh? 🤷🏼‍♂️
    How do you turn your shoulders from left shoulder down to RIGHT shoulder down in that fraction on a second of the downswing. I think this is what I (and all those “choppers”) are trying to do. Hips don’t have to turn that much. Arms don’t have to move that much. But SHOULDERS? They’re close to your head, thus a lot of focus on the shoulders.
    And with “left shoulder down” (which, by the way, is the best tip ever!), with left shoulder down, a lot of the “chop” is right shoulder is still above left into impact, right?
    Great stuff as always, Tom 👏🏻

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      "Right shoulder down to impact" is not a cause, @Parski, it is an effect - and a good checkpoint - for a correct downswing motion that is properly initiated as talked about in these (and other) channel videos:
      - th-cam.com/video/iejRWhuB7y8/w-d-xo.html

      - th-cam.com/video/0lYuJdV1Pbo/w-d-xo.html
      This latest episode is a transitional drill designed to ingrain the feel of shallowing the downswing path - an absolute necessity if we are ever going to achieve crispy ball striking bliss, yet a move that is perpetually elusive to the chronic over-the-top amateur.
      Cheers!

    Pourquoi monter en ligne pour courber ke club vers l interieur. Pourquoi ne pas monter de suite vers l interieur ?

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  ปีที่แล้ว

      The swing is a tilted circle (or arc, if we wish to get technical), the circumference of which extends from the ball to above and behind our shoulders. As such, if we are going to remain on that circle/arc it requires the hands and club to take a slightly inward path - not a disconnected snatch or roll to the inside - just a natural tracing of the outer rim or circumference. The feeling of "straight back" can easily pull the golfer off of that preestablished geometry right from the start, and from there precise compensatory actions are necessary if there is any hope of returning the clubface to the ball on the proper path time after time.

      Did I once suggest rolling or snatching the club inside in the backswing?? Absolutely not. This is a transitional drill designed to ingrain the feel of shallowing the downswing path - an absolute necessity if we are ever going to achieve crispy ball striking bliss, yet a move that is perpetually elusive to the chronic over-the-top amateur.
      It is important to understand that the videos, lessons, and drills on this free channel - while fully aligned with the swing method I teach - address a variety of topics, issues, feels, and/or common flaws/fixes from one episode to the next. They are certainly not intended to be taken as a sequential learning platform like the structured curriculum of my online school, which I strongly recommend to anyone who truly wishes to get on the proper path towards owning this swing. For just $10 US/month or $99 US/year you'll have unlimited access to a comprehensive members-only system for the full swing, the short game, and much more. The school's intuitive course layout greatly simplifies the entire process through succinct, step-by-step videos, and I'm regularly adding new content. There's even a members' forum where you can ask me specific swing-related questions, interact with others in the SagutoGolf community, and suggest new content ideas, plus you'll also have access to all exclusive TH-cam paid channel members-only content at no additional charge. Consider the following possibilities, Sean: 1) Ball position is too far forward, 2) Hands are too far back at address (they should be in line with the inside of your lead thigh), 3) The swing center and low point are drifting backwards at some point during the motion (face-on video will help you determine this), 4) The downswing is steep and/or the path is out-to-in, 5) Conversely, the path is too shallow, 6) Early extension of the trail arm during the downswing (also known as "casting"), 7) Flipping/scooping through the zone, 8) Loss of relationship with the ball (shoulder angle flattening, loss of tilt). Though not an exhaustive list, those are the primary causes of fats, thins, and tops. By the way, always begin with the setup - in this case the first two possibilities - prior to diving into a swing intervention.
      And while there are certainly videos on my channel that address these various issues, a better option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ It's a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the instruction style that has thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews

      The ultimate goal is quiet hands. Some folks need an "active" fix in order to combat a stubborn old swing demon, and as they become successful in doing so the feel of any contrived action will eventually dissipate and work itself into the overall motion.
