    Zach’s talent is explaining things in terms amateurs understand. I struggled with OTT and downward strikes with the driver until watching one of his tips and the release point. Now my path is in to out and an upward strike. 👍🏻

    Hey Ernie, I love your videos! Zach is one of the best instructors out there in the way he explains his methods using his hands on your club in order for us to get a solid visual of what he wants from you. To this end it would be nice to see Zach in the video frames showing us the audience what he wants you (us) to do. Not being critical here just reminding you that we would like to see his first reaction illustrations to your swing each time, ask Zach to step into the frame front view or down the line view depending on what he wants you to see. Thank you again for the great illustrations.

      Hi Jerry! Thanks for the feedback. Although I share the lessons on here, the main objective is for me to go through the lesson! I’m appreciative enough that Zach let’s me record the lessons. It’s very hard to get your body to move in ways it never has before, and that requires my full attention! I can’t think about my video if I’m trying to give my lesson 100% of my effort

    Really good instruction! Knew this was going to be good as soon as it switched to the lesson. I use basically the same feel of "keep your back to the target" in the downswing. Jack Nicklaus & Justin Rose have discussed this as well, 1st YT search result for "Justin Rose 3 wood" where he talks about it is worth a watch.
    Feel the clubhead beating the chest buttons on your polo to the ball, is another I like. Several analogies for it.
    Enjoying the content, keep it up man!

    10-4! Hey Ernie. Great video man. I’m a bit older than you (47), but on the same exact journey as you. I’m actually in the middle of learning this same exact thing. Back to the target longer to come from the inside. It felt weird as hell, but over the last few weeks, it’s begun to feel normal. I’m hitting draws and straight shots a lot more now. I’ll sometimes let my shoulders go early and the old over the top will creep in, but I realize it immediately and by the time I make my next swing, it’s fixed.
    One thing I’m learning that I wish I did YEARS ago is how the mind and brain connection is so critical to getting a good result. If we consciously setup in a good way, our brain will subconsciously execute a good swing. If we don’t, our brain will do the best it can, which is inconsistent at best. Keep working man! You’re looking great! I’m currently a 16 handicap but I’m definitely going to be trending down with these changes I’m making. I’m currently playing above my handicap (shooting in the 90s) while I get these changes ingrained. I’m getting there!

      @ErndogGolf  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Danny, thanks so much for watching and commenting! I absolutely love what you said about body and mind connection. I’m learning the hard way of it’s importance now (hint hint of my video coming Friday). So excited to hear how your golf season goes! Please keep me updated on your scores!!!

    • @colonelcamp
      @colonelcamp ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ErndogGolf For sure man. We give our brain a task, but we have to set it up for success. I used to say to myself, “why did that happen? I didn’t want that to happen!” Not even realizing that my poor brain was just doing it’s best to make contact based on my crappy setup. Now my approach to every swing is to examine the result based on 1. What did I present to my brain and 2. If the result was bad, what compensation did my brain subconsciously make in order to make contact. This approach has totally changed my practice. No more robotic hitting ball after ball. It’s hit a few shots and analyze. Exactly what your coach was saying. I’ll def keep you updated. Looking forward to the next video!

    That's pretty awesome. Great advice to take it down to 30% to work on mechanics, then up to 60%, then faster if it's consistent, slower if it still needs work. Keeping the chest pointing back longer is something I've not heard of. Up here in MT it's still 30 degrees outside, so I can't wait for it to warm up and the ranges open up. Thanks for the post!

    My golf coach is telling me to keep the trail elbow bent, rotate the hips, and chest to open at impact and bow the wrist to create shaft lean but it looks like you are saying the opposite. I still struggle with fat\thin and pull left (right handed) shots. Am I misunderstanding?

    • @ErndogGolf
      @ErndogGolf  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey man! So there's different swing theories out there. It sounds like your instructor is teaching you the swing that's very popular on tour right now. Watch Mike Malaska The Four Ways to Swing on TH-cam and you'll get an understanding of what the swings are trying to accomplish. Zach was a student of Hank Haney (Tiger Wood's swing coach for 6 years). He teaches an effortless swing that produces push draws.

  • @CallMeJackWagon

    Weird... head stays open due to tension and holding off. RELAX and it'll square up.. rotate and stay relaxed... you get shaft lean and a square club face (shrug)

    How to flip the club
    I’ve never heard a great ball striker say” I don’t want my handle ahead of the ball at impact … I want it straight up and down ?! “ lol every pro and scratch has forward shaft lean at impact .

    • @kingshark5938
      @kingshark5938 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Uhhhhh, never heard one say as well. Let me just deloft the heck out my driver and drag it through. Now sit back and really slow mo driver swings and pay attention. Plus here he's obviously to chest open and over cooked with that shaft lean.
      The driver is a catapult action. Your in positive launch, not handle forward, trailing club head mush.

    • @essoteric
      @essoteric ปีที่แล้ว +1

      But thats for irons right? Because you're hitting down on the ball, whereas for driver you have to hit up.

    • @ErndogGolf
      @ErndogGolf  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thanks for watching! I'll ask Zach to respond tomorrow to make sure we get the right information. Here is what I think, but take it with a grain of salt as I'm not a pro: we don't want forward shaft lean with the driver for obvious reason, it deloft's the club, steepens your angle of attack, and restricts your release. With my irons, I've always been told that I have too much forward shaft lean. Notice how he says "you don't want the club face too far in front of the handle." I believe this is Zach's way of showing me that feeling of releasing the club and we can dial back when needed.

    • @jorgeocasio5936
      @jorgeocasio5936 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      He didn't say club straight up and down at impact. He said, club straight up and down by his left foot. At that point, the club has already traveled through the impact zone with forward shaft lean and the ball is long gone.

    • @zachberhow.instruction
      @zachberhow.instruction ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Most drivers are 10.5° of static loft. At impact the ideal amount of dynamic loft is 13° to 15°. With a driver we are actually adding a small amount of loft. If the dynamic loft with a driver is say 7° the ball will not get up in the air and drastically reduce the carry.
      The more the handle is in front of the clubhead the lower the loft. The more the more clubhead is in front of the handle the higher the loft.
      Certain players have different mistakes. Some people need more handle in front. Ernie has too much Ernie handle in front and therefore needs to feel the clubhead catch up with the handle and pull the handle backwards to allow the release. To me handle dragging is a sin, especially with the driver.
