    I have used my hydraulic log splitter, which works very well. Seeing your method gives me an idea. Having an axe like yours mounted on a hinge, this would give you both hands free to swing the hammer.

      For small transformers it's working pretty well,no angle grinder required! For the bigger ones little bit difficult.
