Actually if you are lucky you can get onions that are starting to sprout from the store or let them to sprout at home. Alternately you can utlise the bottom half of the bulb for vegetative propagation . Sure shot way is using seeds. Im talking at a garden level. Although one strategy is to let the onion bulbs of a few plants to rot and let the plants produce flowers which give you seeds
