      Why is a green light blinking up on the motor casing near the force controls?

    This solved my issue!! I actually had a service guy come out and suggest it was probably a bent panel and would need to replace the entire door for $1400. I told him I needed to do some research first. Turns out I just needed to adjust this downforce. You saved me from getting screwed over by an apparently shady company.

      Could still be a bend, skew, or insufficient lubrication. None of these validate an entire door replacement, but making your system work a bit harder doesn’t necessarily mean the underlying issue was resolved.
      Just like anything else, it’ll last longer with proper upkeep.

      why wouldnt you do your research first before having a technician drive to your house to provide a quote. just to waste his time your time and his money and mileage on his vehicle and gas including he couldn’t of went to a job that would’ve paid unlike your cheap job.

      @@garagedoorgeniushe priced new door for $1400 the door costs 800-1100 and your calling him a scum for making 300 for a whole days worth of work not to mention you need a helper and a truck for transportation. people like these are the ones with un maintenance belongings that are falling apart and they keep repairing rather than solving and replacing.

    • @garagedoorgenius
      @garagedoorgenius  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lola Larue
      You could have the machine closing the door a little to hard.
      Yes, turning the down force UP more would probably keep it closed. But you just increased the down pressure. So if in the future the door hits something coming down, it will exert more pressure. So let's hope it's not something of value.
      Now you could back off the DOWN limit just a little. That way you don't have to adjust the force control.
      I set force controls anywhere from a 3 to a 5. Some older machines you have to turn up with age.
      Hope this helps!
      Please ask if you have any more questions.

      When adjusting that setting (up), it's always good to manually operate the door first. See if it goes up and down smoothly. If it's really heavy to lift open and won't stay open, the door needs adjusted then.
      If it's smooth running manually, then adjusting the force controls is the fix!
      Thanks for watching!

    • @garagedoorgenius
      @garagedoorgenius  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the door feels good, then the dash pot is wore out or broken. Which means no more force adjustment...

    • @500finsfan
      @500finsfan 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We were able to get it to close normally by pulling down on the red string multiple times. What does this mean? We’ve had this motor for a long time and have had to had it fixed. The open setting is on 9, the close setting is on 7-8.

    • @garagedoorgenius
      @garagedoorgenius  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sometimes those machines will reach their max settings. If your door doesn't have any resistance going up and down and is fairly easy to operate, you may need to replace the board or the unit.

    • @garagedoorgenius
      @garagedoorgenius  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So I was thinking. Hook up the opener back to the door. Run the door down. When it gets about waist high, grab the bottom of the door and apply some upward resistance. Are you able to stop it or does it continue down? If you're able to stop it with ease, then yes the board needs changed out. Or a new unit. If seems like you can't stop it by applying pressure , then your force controls are good. It's another issue then.

    Helpful video. I watched 3 other videos that said the same thing and nothing did the trick and then I realized my tortion spring snapped in half. This is the giant spring located inside the garage on the top of the door so look out for that

    Thank you! Programmed the car remote as instructed and the door opened but when pressing the button to close; opener lights flashed and door did not close! Your video stated when the lights flashed the sensor beam may be blocked and sure enough, mine was interrupted with a bike tire. Thanks again!

      I have a problem garage door lifts, but wont let down, like its jammed, Can someone help me figure it out...

    • @garagedoorgenius
      @garagedoorgenius  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      With the door closed, disconnect the opener from the door. Raise the door by hand to figure out where it's catching. If the door works perfect manually, then run the machine by itself. See what it does...
      A lot of the times if you isolate the door and opener it's easier to figure out what's going on.

      @@garagedoorgenius exact same damn thing. Sorry my potty mouth is in overdrive now. So effective immediately we have two broken belts on both doors. I told the lady I lived in Alabama and that she should go ahead and send me two of them because of our heat. I’ve not opened box yet to even look. Quite honestly was waiting on my elderly mother to be away long enough for me to work on this without her worrying I’ll screw it up worse or injure myself. Sadly should my repairs not go well, whoever comes in behind me will hate the job and probably charge me an arm and leg!!

      PS. Know it’s not highlight of your life if I get this repair or not but I saved a video (still have to locate) from your channel where you gave explicit directions for even dummies to follow. I’d like to say for a 50 yr old single gal, I’ve got common sense, love tearing electronics apart and can’t see why I can’t give this a swing!! LOL. I don’t officially have a channel but will post a few videos to show what I’m up against, tools I have to work with and any details along the way in case I should succeed, I could pay it forward by helping someone else.

      If the door reverses back open and the lightbulb in the machine flashes 10 times or you hear 10 clicks then it's a misaligned safety sensor. Watch this video to fix that issue.

    We just recently purchased a house with a defective Liftmaster. The problem we have is the garage will go up a couple inches or about 3-4ft then it will go back down. I thought it was a sensor issue, also I only came across this video because I was looking for reviews on brand new garage door openers. I think this might be the solution, I will update later after I’ve tried this. Thank you 🙏
