A performance that is so definitive, so extraordinary, so heartbreaking, and so real. Wow.
How I love Judy Garland! Thank you for your compassion and your great reaction :)
Thank you for doing this. I have been begging reactors to watch this version for years, and you are the first to do it. This is the rip-your-heart-out Judy, raw, soul-baring, helpless and in pain, but hopeful still. At the end, she can't bear even to stay for the applause, but quietly walks off alone. Always alone...
That character was from the movie "Easter Parade." It was an old trope in vaudeville to play a "hobo." This particular performance is, to my mind, just really extraordinary. There's a sadness to it, and a REALness. She makes you feel like she's thinking those words for the first time, expressing how she feels in the moment, not just reciting some lyrics she's sung hundreds of times. It's heartbreaking and gorgeous.
A remarkable, unforgettable performance done on live television with laryngitis no less. There will never be a greater performer. Thank you for showing this and for your honest, heartfelt reaction.
She is sangin' for the gods!
your reaction made me feel the song for the first time (i have seen it scores of times) Judy would have appreciated your sensitivity to her
Thank you for that, yea it always resonated with me from how she sings it, she brought her heart & experiences to it
