Log Woodshed Build Part 3: Roof Ridge Beam & Rafters

  • In this video, I pick up where I left off last week on my round wood log woodshed at my cabin in the woods! This is part 3 in a series of videos in which I will share the entire process of the build.
The next step involved getting more roadside logs with my truck. Next, I brought them inside my off grid workshop and made notches so they would fit on the beams. Finally, I muscled them into place.
    Thanks for watching!

Diego, I have been watching many Utube videos for the last few years. All about building off grid cabins, etc. In my opinion, your videos are In the top of the top ten. I live in New York, Long Island and have property in southen Vermont. I am 70 years old and presently building one of my bucket list projects. A small off grid cabin . I could chat for hours, you have great philosophy on life. Keep doing you!
    Best Regards Mike

Who the heck knew I would enjoy watching someone in a totally different country building a shed for wood. I don’t even need a wood shed!!!

an idea something my dad told me one of the reasons that Doug fir is used in building houses is because they don't like letting go of the nails that's why the screws stopped and wouldn't turn😊. I really like your videos they're fun to watch,

You can try lagging those long screws using a same size drill as the shaft of the screw for the near piece of lumber so the screw slides and pulls the near piece into far piece that you are attaching it to. Also use bar soap or candle wax for the threads of the screws to decrease the friction. This will help with stripped heads and boards that won’t butt up tight. You can google a lag screw technique. Hope this helps!

A rule in wood framing is to have the wood stacked in such a way to have the vertical load transferred from wood to wood - as in using a bird’s mouth cut where the rafter meets the beam. In this way, the fasteners just keep things in place, and are not load bearing. In your case, the fasteners connecting the rafters to the bottom beam, are completely load bearing. The entire weight of the roof is now bearing 100% on your fasteners - and that can lead to catastrophic failure.

Please worship the CREATOR OF THE UNIVERSE, THE LORD GOD and try not to worry too much about the differences between the different religions and denominations, try to think about the similarities and the things they may have in common more than the differences. Daily prayer is a fundamental part that many people do not practice although it is encouraged
"CREATOR OF THE UNIVERSE, LORD GOD, I beg you to never force me to worship any false god and I ask you for forgiveness for my sins and immorality. Thank you for everything. Amen." 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
