      Hi Dillon, Everyone wants something slightly different. I talk to a lot of artists who think 22" is too big. Personally I wouldn't go smaller than my 32" now but to each their own! As far as I'm concerned, the more tablets the better!

      @@urban_gabor No wacom, display-tablet or pen-display has real risk of scratching if you use it carefully. The cases I've known were of people not treating the wacom well for drawing, putting WAY more pressure than needed. If u draw over it as if it were glass or porcelain, you draw with the friction of a feather, I tell u, my wacom intuos 4 , the one suspected to be more able to be scratched... 11 years of HEAVY daily use, and not a single scratch. Produced entire video games, ALL graphic content of full board games, book covers, tons, and tons of art with this, 10 hours a day average.... The surface of these display tablets (like the One's) is actually sturdier than my Intuos'. Any tablet you buy, treat it carefully and you will be totally fine. Be sure to set the pressure sensitivity in the Wacom's panel for all apps (and the "for all applications" option) at maximum sensitivity, tho. So, you'll get used to that even the slightest touch will produce ink or digital paint. And so, non consciously, but you'll put really soft pressure while you paint. Is a good habit.

      Hi @@urban_gabor, I've never used a screen protector and it's never been an issue. The only time I'd recommended them is on something like the iPad where you've got to get rid of the gloss screes and replace it with a good matte texture.

    For all the beginners who want to work in studios as a concept artist, storyboard/animatic artist, animator, sculptor/modeler, texturing artist, etc and have this "disconnect" problem. Let me tell you this. DON'T BULLSHIT YOURSELVES. This is neither a physical or a mental problem. Do you look at your steering wheel when you drive a car? A week of practice and your all set. You're not always gonna end up in companies that have pen displays for freshers and mid-level artists. It's incredibly easy to switch from graphic tabs to pen displays but not the other way around.

    Just got the Wacom One, it's amazing.. it has more touch sensitive than the others and the screen is very nice. The pen doesn't need batteries so that's great. If you're trying to connect it to an android device here's how. First make sure your phone can be connected to it. get a converter and put in both of the cords into it, after that put the converters cord into your phone. Hope that makes sense!

    72% NTSC is about fine even for some pros. Is about 98% sRGB coverage. That's A LOT, for painting.
    And indeed, several POD print companies do even require your work to be in sRGB, as they convert quite well to CMYK in the RIP (often better than in a freelancer's home computer and software). Anyway, CMYK is a smaller range than sRGB. Yep, some intense greens, neons lights, etc (that, again, non printable, and out of the CMYk spectrum, any profile), can be a bit of an issue, and the color is not as rich as in a 100% Adobe RGB monitor, where those colors can be displayed, but those are a tad more expensive. I'd say, unless one is doing very color critic stuff (ie, a photo lab, or high end illustration; my monitor covers a wider range), you're fine with an sRGB compliant monitor. Specially for students or even young manga artists. Also, sRGB means full compatibility across any range of devices, iPhones and iPads, even the Pro one, till the versions introducing P3 color profile, were all sRGB compliant, as much (not even fully!). And some of those were used even to win short film and photography contests.
    The entire Cintiq (non pro) line is ~ 72% NTSC, too. And well, I believe the XP-Pen (BTW, 22E, 22 inches at 364 $ at amazon... my gosh) is 88% NTSC, the 22R I believe even more. BUT... this ONE is *way* more portable. You could throw the One into your bag, with the cables and just a phone or small tablet. Fits perfectly in a side or back bag (to draw in starbucks, college, the library, etc). While you can't do that with a 22 heavy and chunky screen whatever the brand. As a pro, I'd go with an XP-Pen 22 all the way, but it's in no way portable, and you'd need a full computer with it. So, the attractive part of this model lays in two factors : a) It's freaking Wacom, the product quality and durability is more than ensured (I should know, I have a bunch of wacoms...) b) It works better in its Android connection than the XP's solution for that, if we have to believe you ;D , and definitely than Huion's, according to your experience (I believe it). So, it's a win-win for portability. You get sth almost as portable as an iPad, but which you can ALSO connect to your home full desktop or Mac (without dealing with wifi issues of astropad or whatever, or heck, needing a mac for that), having in this sense more versatility than an autonomous (ie, an ipad) tablet (which is also limited in CPU, RAM, memory for a bit more serious work).
    I understand that you're going with Wacom for your son. U need the thing to be sturdy and durable, also, kind of in terms of safety, I trust A TAD more Wacom (the number of safety labs certifications passed is crazy, not the case of competitors, checked all that) than in any alternative (electromagnetic stuff, materials toxicity, etc). But I wouldn't leave him handle it unsupervised, if is very young, as kids do crazy things and can't get out alone from situations, later... After all, involves actual electric cables (shock risk).

    • @LAWRENCEcanDRAW
      @LAWRENCEcanDRAW  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      My kid doesn't let anyone leave him alone. He wants constant praise and attention. He must get it from his mother (Hi dear, I know you read the comments xxx). I gave him my old iPad when I gave up Apple a few years ago and he's been great with that. He's a techie kid and never broken anything. I'm pretty sure I can trust him now.
      I knew you'd get all of this with the colour values. I thought it funny that they only put the NTSC values on the specs and not the sRGB. I didn't know if I should say 98 or 99% so I left that off as I couldn't pin it down. Not that it matters. 98 or 99% of people won't be able to tell the difference. lol. Most screens now are fine. Ellie said that Lisa from mobileTechReviews said the screen was a bit dim but I don't see that at all - even at 75% brightness this is great. Having seen the new Kamvas 13 I'm eager to see that and maybe do a comparison between the two!

    I'd really like to see how an experienced digital artist uses that remote in conjuction with the Wacom One. As a beginner I can't see the value of the pricey remote. A demo of how that is integrated into your workflow would be beneficial and appreciated. Thanks.

    • @LAWRENCEcanDRAW
      @LAWRENCEcanDRAW  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you are a beginner then I would focus on the user interface rather than shortcuts. Get to really know the applications you are using. A remote is great once you have trained up a bit but you don't need it and it won't help you become a better artist. I would put that money towards upgrading your tablet instead.

    I've been using an Intuos forever, but it got scratched over the years. I always wanted to draw on a screen and I bought the Wacome One yesterday. I had tried a similar product from XP pen, but returned it the same day. The Wacom however I plugged in and went to play. And wow, it is a different world drawing on the screen and having the Wacom feel. On the XP pen I could feel the parallax and the reaction seemed delayed. The Wacom feels like a Wacom and I am glad they chose to make a display tablet that is portable and kinda affordable. Their high end stuff is mind-blowing, but not everyone has a studio or a free table to set up these massive screens and stands. I love the portability and the built-in stand!

    • @LAWRENCEcanDRAW
      @LAWRENCEcanDRAW  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad to hear your thoughts on the subject. Especially given a lot of the views from the XP-Pen/Huion camp. I don't dismiss those tablets but a lot of those arguments do come from users who have not tried Wacom technology and I do think are bias against Wacom for certain reasons. Mainly price and brand favoritism. The fact that you have now tried this tablet helps. Which XP-Pen & Intuos tablet did you last have?

    Two questions:
    1) how's the left-handed experience of this? Do you have to set it as left handed like in the Intuos? Some tablets are great for right handed people but horrible for left handed, did you notice any difference?
    2)I noticed quite a bit of lag on some strokes. How annoying does that get on a normal workflow? I have a galaxy note and I rarely use it for drawing because most free software displays lag.
    Thank you!

    • @LAWRENCEcanDRAW
      @LAWRENCEcanDRAW  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      1). Wacom have a long history of left handed UX & UI so I never worry about their tablets on that front. It was perfect.
      2). There was no lag. Remember that I have to screen record as well as film on several devices. I use a large film template as my base so I am actually pushing the tablet when testing it unlike a lot of other reviewers. I don't just let it skate along on the minimum and say how well it did after only 5 minutes of reviewing it. haha. I tested it fully for a month. If there would have been lag then I'd of mentioned it and/or shown it.
      Sidebar). I use AutoDesk SketchBook on my Note 8 and DU Recorder to screen capture. Very rare that I get lag. You can see for yourself in my extensive playlist ;)
      Happy New Year.
      Lawrence.

    Well if you think about it.
    If you are a beginner, the alternative tablets are much better in term of EVERYTHING.
    Take The latest Huion tablet for example, Kamvas pro 16. Full-laminated screen, 8192 Pressure Levels, 120% sRGB, 15.6 inch display, for $469.
    Wacom One is too expensive. You're only getting a brand name with a build quality.
    My opinion is: If you're a beginner, Huion is the way to go. Good specification for a little amount of money. The tablet will last, and if you think it's time to upgrade to a pro tablet, Wacom is the way to go.

    • @LAWRENCEcanDRAW

      If you're doing calligraphy then you'd want a slightly bigger screen so you can do those longer free strokes that come more from the wrist. I's suggest a 16" or above tablet. Also, tablets like this are really just 'fancy' monitors - you still need to plug them into a PC/Mac to use them. They will work with whatever software you have on your computer. Hope that helps!

    There is a gap between pen and tablet when you draw. It doesn't draw immediately. Ipad doesn't have that. Yet it's too expensive. Do you think I can fix this issue when I get this tablet?

    • @LAWRENCEcanDRAW
      @LAWRENCEcanDRAW  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is a beginner / budget tablet as far as Wacom tablets are concerned. The XP-Pen or Huion brand might serve you better. The iPad still has that 'gap' which we call parallax - their screens are made of a slightly thinner plastic that feels more flexible and you may consider a compromise. Unless you spend some real money on a quality device you can't expect to get the higher specs & more features but you only need them if you are a more professional artist and you can easily put more money towards that it you are claiming towards it as a business expenses as a professional.
      I do think this is a good think this is a good tablet for those just starting out. I do think there are many other great alternatives for those just starting out but as a Wacom it is still pretty good!

Being a third worlder Cintiq is way out of my price range, with our crazy taxes I can get one of these for 450 USD. Better wait for a model with touch screen and a bigger image or go for it? How does it stand against Latest Huion pen displays?

    • @LAWRENCEcanDRAW
      @LAWRENCEcanDRAW  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Close but this is still better. Wacom has the better hover distance which is quite important, especially if you are not a pro. Tilt and roll are also better on Wacom tech in general I have found. Just smoother in general and this pen doesn't seem any different. Id does have less pressure levels but it feels very much like the Pro Pen to use. I'd also say that the 'paper feel' that Wacom has developed makes a big difference too. Huion and XP-Pen have tried to develop their own but I still think they are quite a few years behind. I think the price difference is about right for what you get there.

    • @LAWRENCEcanDRAW
      @LAWRENCEcanDRAW  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Lag has nothing to do with the tablet. That's an old myth. It's all to do with the computer and application and the brushes etc that you are using. I was using a larger brush to get the variation in stroke width. I'm not sure why the lag occurred but it wasn't the tablet. Might have been because I was screen recording at the same time.

    Wacom advertised their note taking software for this tablet, how would the experience be if one tried taking notes with it? I use my tablet as my main device for taking notes and adding drawings (chemistry, biology, etc..), but the drawing experience isn't the best since it's an old Galaxy Tab S that wasn't designed for pen use. Could this tablet allow me to connect to my phone and take notes in school, while also being a great device to draw at home, connected to my PC?

    • @LAWRENCEcanDRAW
      @LAWRENCEcanDRAW  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For note taking? Second to none!!! Personally I don't take many notes these days (maybe I should) but Wacom puts a lot into making their tech work for signature and note taking. This does need to be plugged in and I'm not sure if it can run off a battery pack to be 100% mobile but if it can it would be even better for school. I'm going to put the draw test out as a separate video and I'll answer that question soon!

    • @LAWRENCEcanDRAW
      @LAWRENCEcanDRAW  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I take my time and consider what I say. I dislike videos where the reviewer talks too fast and doesn't give you the proper chance to soak in what they are say or give thought to what they are saying themselves - often simply repeating a hastily written script. In our field this is done because these people are not professional artists giving honest advice for fellow artists.
      I know some people would like me to talk faster but I'm not willing to change my persona (or my opinions) to quickly gain subscribers.
      Sorry if that's disappointing but I stick to my guns with that one. I make long form reviews for professional digital artists and as a working professional freelance artist rather than a sponsored full time TH-camr, my videos might be a bit rougher around the edges than some other peoples but mine are 100% honest and I'll get you there in the end ;)

    • @LAWRENCEcanDRAW
      @LAWRENCEcanDRAW  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I hate doing comparisons just because there are so many differences I'd be there for an eternity and it's like a vs battle were the only real looser is the referee. haha. The iPad is a different thing because it's an all in one - but be aware that it really only has one good app for it. Procreate. The iPad is not a real computer. If you are looking for a drawing tablet then it depends on how far along you are with your art journey. I always say go with the best you can afford and trust your gut BUT I do have two bits of advice. Firstly, the pen is the most important part - don't pick fancy dials or any other feature over a good pen. Second, get the biggest screen possible because the UI takes up screen-room and the more you grow as an artist - the more screen space you'll need too! Good lock out there & watch your six ;)

      I've been using Wacom tablets for years and never once needed a screen protector. Saying that I don't use them on my phones either. I'm just careful and don't push down like the Hulk. lol. Using a screen protector can give you a tiny insignificant almost immeasurable amount of parallax and that is still enough to trigger some folks - probably the reason it's hard to find screen protectors for most tablets.

      It will be on their Clip Studio account with their email address. They will own it. The same with Windows that is set-up on that Cintiq Pro 24. You would be much better off, resetting the device and putting your own software onto it. You can use the software that is on it but you will have no control and who ever owns those accounts can lock you out at any time from the Windows website or from the Clip Studio website.
      It's really easy to install the software. You don't have to be an expert. You just have to go to the website and get the download. You can even Google it and it will take you right to it. Hope that helps.

    • @LAWRENCEcanDRAW
      @LAWRENCEcanDRAW  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lag is caused by crazy brushes and number of layers. Delete everything off your phone that doesn't need to bee there - apps, photos, junk, everything. Close all other apps while drawing. That will help with your phone lag.
      I give two bits of info about picking a tablet. Go for the best pen tech available. The pen is the most important part of the tablet. Also go for the biggest screen possible because UI takes up room.
      If it's about getting a job then you need a real computer so you can train yourself in the applications like Adobe that real studios use so you can add those to your CV.

      @LAWRENCEcanDRAW  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well there are cheaper alternatives but they don't have iOS so you won't get Procreate or the Pencil which are the only two good things about the iPad... I can be harsh. The Samsung Android tablets are cheaper for example. If you need a Windows tablet then you might run into budget issues but at least you could get something a lot more powerful and that can real applications like Painter and Photoshop.
      I left Apple as a user for 20 yrs because they refused to put pen and touch on all devices. Real shame. You could be waiting a long time if you want iOS or a really strong alternative on that. PCs have come a long way for artists and creatives though. 2-in-1s especially but I will say that budget versions are very lacking because a good GPU costs money.

    Just ignoring the XP-Pen Artist 15.6 Pro & the Huion KAMVAS Pro 16 tablets with that "best at price range", which are both better than the Cintiq 16, let alone something I assume is a more boiled down version of said tablet.

    • @LAWRENCEcanDRAW
      @LAWRENCEcanDRAW  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That said tablet uses the Pro Pen 2 which is a superior pen to that of any of the tablets you've just mentioned because of reasons such as rotation, hover, tilt, pressure variation etc. Plus screen differences etc. It's nice to see though that the latest Huions and XP-Pens are getting nicer screens but they still haven't cracked the 'pap'er feel texture yet. I'm not going to make a video that compares a tablet to every tablet one by one and personally I hate mentioning other brands in a review. I believe I did it once here and that was only to talk about the Android capabilities as that is a new feature to tablets. When it comes to budget tablets though, yes they all start to look similar under a certain price. They all have 1080p screens etc but having one with a well calibrated pen that feels really good and comfortable to use for hours on end makes a lot of difference.

    • @Garmacon
      @Garmacon 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@LAWRENCEcanDRAW While what you say is mostly true, disregarding other brands in a review in which you express a tablet to be best in price range is disingenuous. The two tablets I mentioned were mentioned due to their clearly superior screens, with a high colour range, laminated displays, inbuilt shortcut keys etc. The nicest pen in the world won't redeem a parallax-filled, poorly calibrated screen. All I guess I am saying here, is that a review is no where near as useful if it has no point of reference to it's competitors.

    • @TheCSJones
      @TheCSJones 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Have you used all three of those? Because I have an Artist 15.6 Pro and a Cintiq 16, and the latter's miles better to draw with, lack of shortcut keys aside. XP Pen has a weird and awkward feel to it and much more limited software.

    • @LAWRENCEcanDRAW
      @LAWRENCEcanDRAW  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There's nothing 'disingenuous' about my review at all. The quality of a pen is a superior feature to that of the screen. That is my professional opinion as a professional who works in the industry and has over 25 years experience with drawing tablets.
      I mentioned the fact that the screen of the Wacom One is coated and not laminated unfortunately and that this was a drawback. I mentioned that it didn't have hotkeys ...but rather than say 'don't buy it' I said 'here is a way of solving that problem with a remote' (or even a cheaper alternative). I work with ALL of these companies as a consultant to make their products better rather than simply badmouth them in reviews because that is simply negative and pointless. It would be of little help to anyone.
      If you look at the chart I created in this review then you will see that you probably fall into the center category of hobbyist. Correct? Meaning that this tablet isn't right for you. But you are the kind of user that likes hotkeys so I would probably recommend the latest XP-Pen. However...
      It feels to me as if you might have liked me simply to have said 'don't buy the Wacom One, buy a Huion or XP-Pen instead'. That about right? That's how this kinda feels. There are Wacom haters out there - I really hope you're not one of them! There's better things in life to get hung up on ;) especially at your age. Experience says Wacom haters are mostly people who can't afford Wacom and have never even tried Wacom so don't really understand the difference in quality (or who have had a single bad experience). That's why I always make sure to review all brands. But I never like to mention Wacom in a Huion review or vise versa. I also avoid the term 'Wacom Alternatives'. I am a natural complainer and that's why I work so hard to not do it online. That's why I go out of my way to work with the companies to make the tech I use better by giving feedback and beta-testing.
      Any time I get criticism from someone on how I make a video I always notice it's someone who doesn't makes content themselves. However, I see you do have a channel - congrat's on that! So how about it? Step in front of the camera(phone) yourself and review a tablet. Whatever tablet you're using now. You seem to have good linguistic skills.

      Hi @@TheCSJones, Wacom does have the best software. XP-Pen is in 2nd place I'd say with theirs. I can't understand why everyone can't manage to have good software these days. Especially since you can make a phone app in 10 minutes. lol.
      Yes! I've tried them all. They are all very distinct and different to each other and I wouldn't pit them as direct comparisons because some people wouldn't want a 16" but would want a 13" and vise versa. The size difference there is quite big. I get asked to do comparison videos all the time and never do them because I don't want to get in an endless cycle of doing them and it's always going to be an argument over which tablet is the winner. People get very protective over their tablet brands - like they are shareholders :O (Wish I'd of got shares in Wacom back when I got my first tablet).
      My universal rules for picking a good tablet are: Go for the best pen tech and the biggest screen you can get. It's that simple. If you are stuck between picking between a few of them then read all the specs, watch reviews from real artists who actually use them (and not just unbox them) and then... follow your gut instinct.

    So it s not a stand alone display monitor like ipad pro or Microsoft surface?

    • @LAWRENCEcanDRAW
      @LAWRENCEcanDRAW  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nope. It's a drawing tablet. That way you can upgrade your computer and keep the tablet or use it with your computer and your phone. It's a different type of device. Not an all in one. Drawing tablets are more common than all-in-one pen tablets - they offer you more flexibility. Think of it like building your own PC rather than buying off the shelf ;)

    Can you use the better Wacom Pen with the Eraser/dual button on this tablet? I still feel that at the price-point, they could have gone with a laminated display, but then it would cut out their Cintique line, probably the only reason they did not.

      the experience is terrible in xp-pen, yes first time it was amazing, i praised it so much but this isn't for long term. the screen protector is easily scratched, very uncomfortable to work in. it gradually starts glitching like, you have to setup the settings every time you use it and even after that you might need to re-connect it if problem pertains, and service is also terrible. I didn't get a refund/replacement bc it broke after the warranty expired, it was only a 1 yr warranty getting it fixed out of town means paying a lot so I'd just buy a new one

      That's why I work with a lot of great software & hardware companies and make TH-cam videos too. I beta-test, give feedback and work as a consultant. It's nice to see my ideas implemented is actual devices and software that I use to create my artwork.
      I do believe that I said in this video and lots of others that the minimum size for me is 16" too. I use a 32" and the bigger the better. UI takes up a lot of room!! But the draw test proves that you can create good artwork I hope. I said also about touchscreen. Even my 4 yr old knows that all screens should be touchscreen by now! It's just quicker to work on. However there are about 5 comments on this video about how people REALLY don't want that. So I do think there should be a quick on/off button too and I have already suggested that to a couple of my favorite companies ;)

      @@LAWRENCEcanDRAW Hi, Thanks for the reply. Yes. no harm getting a touchscreen to increase productivity indeed, but it comes with a price for some items which some may underutilized or be put off. I am active in this because I would like to know more about the Cintiq 16 as I like to sketch anime style (still learning how to color) but I feel restricted drawing on an iPad Pro 9.7" and disconnected when using an intros Pro M. Although the iPad Pro is technically great but lacks workspace and inefficient to work on when I want to draw comfortably. (I applause those who really can get it done on an iPad Pro). I would like to ask if the Cintiq 16 can be connect via a TB1 to HDMI connector to a MacBook Pro 2012. Also for curiousity, does drawing on a big Cintiq ie 32" ( not gonna buy it) need more hand movement to get the same line in 16" which I guess would need lesser hand movement because I cannot decide between 22" and 16" (non-pro version)? although generally speaking the bigger the better My take on this is the big Cintiq are suitable for styles that draw lines with generous strokes. unlike more technical drawings like anime style which I think a 13-16 " would do.

    Correction: You say this pen is the "best in terms of specs with 4096 levels of sensitivity" but both Huion and XP Pen have tablets in their Pro series that have 8192 levels of pressure sensitivity with laminate screens and they're currently available for cheaper than the Wacom One. I'm not trying to start a brand war but just pointing out that, at least on paper, it seems you can still get better specs for less money with Wacom's competitors. Of course, it's totally valid if you just prefer the drawing experience, customer service, or drivers of Wacom.
