Shadow is a game that I’ve always enjoyed and have never understood the hate for.
It has its issues, and I agree that streamlining the paths to 3 would make it a lot better, and wish the story was more direct and had better closure, but I’ve always enjoyed the gameplay loop.
Running and gunning is fun in 95% of these levels, and I love how the cast is utilized as companions throughout.
Yes it’s simple, but as long as it’s fun, that’s all that matters.
I’d much rather have a game that knows what it is and has fun with what it is, then trying to be ambitious and fall apart because it prioritizes evolution and constantly trying new things over simple bonkers fun.
And Shadow 2005 has always been that for me.

I do appreciate the game’s way of explaining Shadow’s complex of figuring out who he truly is. A lot of people hate it cuz of the guns, and apparently, I think, SEGA wanted to appeal to modern gamers with the use of those weapons. They made him Wick-ish instead of making him more of how an anthropomorphic hedgehog should be portrayed as: someone who doesn’t need guns to fight
Epic Chao fact: There's a mission in this game where you have to find Cheese in a room full of nearly identical neutral normal/normal Chao. Is it good? It's a mission in Shadow The Hedgehog (2005). Make of that what you will.

He was playing that stage during his true dark run and was about to find cheese
That mission is easier than you think, it's in Dr Eggman's halloween Castle, but you have to find Cream first and then Cheese.. The room where there are many Chao.. There's three doors.. The first middle one is for Netrual mission and get out of the castle and the left door is for the Dark mission and you have to help Eggman turn on his giant lantern to activate his defenses and the right door is for the Hero mission and that's where Cheese is hiding you can find quite easily and you don't have to look for every Chao in the room
If you're playing the dark mission, attacking the chao gives you plenty of dark score.
This game gave us “I am All of Me,” nuff said. Love that Song it is unironically Peak

Honestly, I don't think that Shadow the hedgehog was that bad of a game: yeah a few of the missions were slightly repetitive and the endings were make of them what you will, but I still think it was an enjoyable time.
Now we just need Blaze to get her own game😊

I think the biggest take away for me from watching you revisit the game was the ost. Holy cow there were some really good level osts that I completely forgot about that serve as great bgm.
Its starting with superstars but I really want more chaos powers incorporated in future game entries.
I just love how genuine it is. We all joke and make fun of the game, but I can’t help but appreciate how hard they went with the aesthetic and themes.

I 100%ed this game about 2 years ago and tbh i came out of it feeling pretty positive on it too. The fact that runs were so short made it feel like an old school arcade game to me.
Expert Mode is also legitimately great but it's a huge grind to unlock so no sane person would know lol.
I do, though I don't think I actually did expert mode, but I was able to do all 326 different paths after a couple years of playing that game
One aspect I don't like is how 90% of the game is non canon. I personally feel like the story would have been more impactful if it was a time loop story, that way, Shadow will still remember everything that happened. They'd obviously have to make some tweaks to what happens in the story, but it would have made things feel less inconsequential.
I feel like they wanted people who play it for the first time give their own idea of what they think shadow would do and if they felt like it, try other missions and see what the other endings are like then be rewarded for seeing the 10 endings
Was actually on my mission to play every Sonic Game (that is canon or matters) and I got to this game.
Honestly, I actually really enjoy it. I'm not finished with the game yet here but I gotta say I like it so much more than Heroes.
(Heroes was the last game I played before Shadow.) The controls are fine-tuned, I rarely feel like I'm going to fall out of nowhere
or slip into an abyss, and I've ran into a minimal number of glitches. I've never played this game before and I'm glad I've gotten the chance
to do this now. This game is very underrated and overlooked. Even the guns are fun lmao.
So funny enough this was the first Sonic game I played (not counting being stuck as Tails in Sonic 3), and this game introduced me not only to Sonic, but still to this day Shadow is my favorite character ever. I immediately attached myself to him, related to him, and just adored him. I'm very glad that you ended up enjoying the Hell out of this game, because it is my favorite game and it's nice to finally see people enjoy it cause a lot of people don't give it the time of day BECAUSE of all of the edge and craziness. Now where we differ is that I always have taken the game seriously, and even the Semi-hero ending with Vector still does tug at my heart strings. But regardless of the reasoning, I am glad that you love this game!

I don't understand ppl that hate on Heroes but find Shadow bearable. It's like the worst of Heroes on steroids. Slippery controls, Chaotix styled missions, multiple repetitive playthroughs, zones that go on for 15+ minutes, silly story.
I completed this game with its 10 endings, it was hell, sometimes I accidentally completed the neutral or hero objective when I was trying to get the bad route and had to start that playthrough from the start or turn off the console without saving 💀

I plan on playing shadow using the shadow reloaded mod, if you haven’t seen or heard about it basically improves lots of things about the game and makes it so that u only need to finish 3 endings to get the true ending. But maybe I actually try the normal game someday but I like to fully finish my games and the normal game having 10 endings just pushes me away from it, either way great review.

I never finished this one as a kid. I enjoyed all 4 of the GameCube titles, but this one was easily below the other 3. Slower levels, generally not very difficult with a focus on primitive R&C style combat, with a bit of Sonic in there. Some missions were fun where you just got to the end, but the hunting missions sometimes made team Chaotix feel generous.
On the flipside: it’s fucking shadow the hedgehog. That opening fucks like nothing else!

Personally all I want in this future is a remake of both Sonic Adventure games, Heroes, Rush games, Shadow the Hedgehog and 06. These games deserve to be revived and look fresh in a similar way to Frontiers and maybe possibly better. In my opinion this is when Sonic as a franchise was peak.

It may be crazy to beat the game 10 times but each ending gives shadow a different perspective of himself, like in the two neutral hero endings, he either sees himself as the guardian of what he calls the sacred ark, or becomes a depressed mess seeing himself as an experiment gone deadly wrong

@@Omega-jg4oq it does, I try to do at least 4 paths each time I played it and for awhile it was the only game I had to play, I got burnout from it after awhile, I would try to get myself to play more by asking people on kik if they'd like to race with me like see who can get to a certain point faster
@@Acejak1234 I unlocked 35 paths so far and most of them are True Dark missions and Semi Dark missions and the rest is neutral, I haven't unlocked the Hero endings until I get done with those first, But I liked how each path is called with different names and some are quite badass
What’s insane is that this was my first 3d sonic game after Riders. I never got too far into it (I was a dumb kid) but I absolutely LOVE it for nostalgia and the goofiness.

Weird bit to focus on but this game was so unique to me because depending on the ending, it's always super sad to defeat Sonic and think back on all the games before this point only to see his history in 1 (even if non-canon) timeline, end with him losing and likely dying to a hedgehog he considered a genuinely close friend. Honestly, as a young teen, I could never do the dark endings cause I just couldn't hurt my blue boy.

Would I call it good? Maybe not, but it’s a really good game to laugh at, and I think that’s where it shines

11:46 i would like to póint out there's only one specifc time this strucutre works with the story and that's gun fortress , that stage starts with the president being escorted after almost being killed , and the two methods to reach this stage is either , in the mission where you take control of the ark and blow up the city where he was , or in the mission where you have to blow up his plane ( i though i would have nothing to say about this game) but at least the different paths works once

I think I agree mostly with what you said. Although it takes itself seriously sometimes and has enjoyable moments, it is quite silly. It's a game you can definitely have fun with! One of the things story-wise I enjoy going back and thinking about is the Library Sequences. Since the game has so many ways to get to any particular stage and end, there's a library sequence name for each of them. Like you said, sometimes you're just chilling doing good things, taking one evil path, and suddenly the whole world is at war. So it's interesting to see the names they use to try and tie Shadow's reasoning for his actions in a nice little bow. Some of them are silly but I find a lot of them very interesting. Ones like "Miracle of Love" where you only do hero missions after meeting Amy had some implications. Typically the names of these sequences focus on the ending but when you find a name that is specific to the path it gets really fun to think about, at least for me.
I don't know if I would want this game remade or a sequel. While the Shadow movie is coming up, this is one of the more complicated games in the series to follow up. Even to remake I imagine. If I can cope, they're both coming this year for sure. Need more non-Sonic Sonic titles, Tails should definitely get his own modern game.
I'm currently playing this game for the first time and I absolutely love it! Yeah, the 10 endings aspect of it sucks but like you said, it's a game that you mindlessly play and therefore, don't even realize when you're done with a level. All of them might not make sense but at the end of it all, when you reach the final story, you see that they're what-if scenarios. I love the creativity of each of the stages. I absolutely love that Shadow curses throughout the entire game 🤣While I game, I rage a lot but while playing Shadow '05, I don't feel like cursing my head off as much because Shadow's basically raging for me 🤣 Other than the 10 endings thing, I feel like the reason this game got so much hate all those years ago was because people didn't understand it. Even though Shadow's literally using weaponry the whole game, Shadow '05 is more so about rediscovering who he is as a character and learning to accept his traumatic past while deciding how he would want to move on going forward. It took me years to figure that out but now that I have, I think the good things about this game greatly outweigh the bad as long as people give it a chance
It's definitely a guilty pleasure. The game definitely has its problems, especially with the over convoluted story lines that don't amount to anything. But it's honestly just fun
this game was a big part of my childhood, and is part of the reason why Shadow is my number 2 favorite fictional character, (number 1 being Bowser), I can understand the hate for this game, but it will always hold a special place in my heart

I don't think playing the game 10 times is a bad thing, because each campaign is short, and every time you play it, you can finish it faster and faster. So, I don't think it's that impossible for someone to not finish the game 10 times. The whole point of the game is to experience the different routes.
It really sucks seeing that a game that is just dumb fun get dogged on, when in reality alot of the reasons people hate this game IS the reason its fun. The guns are hilarious and are just fun to use, story is ridiculous no matter what path you take and its a fun ride. All in all its just a fun game

I still remember being like 4 years old first getting this game man how time flys. I simply appreciate the game for what it is, flaws and all. It’s pretty chill aside from the ark level lol. I know it’ll never happen but I really feel like if they remade this game and streamlined or even expanded their ideas it could be so damn killer (3 longer story paths, improved mission design, give more lore on the black arms or the ark etc) I want a remake series for Sonic so bad man that’s what my thoughts always come to when thinking about these older games. So many of their ideas work if they could just work in peace without a certain parent company breathing down their necks all the time. Anyway thanks for putting some respect on shadow fadel you have my gratitude lol

this game is incredibly underrated it got it’s hate back in the day but I see that people are now coming around and seeing that this game was not as bad as they thought it was. I’ve always loved this game. The soundtrack is amazing. The story is great. I really like the whole pick your path scenario it increases replayability and shows the whole different scenarios that you can take shadow through and the funny thing is this game is straight up better than most of the modern sonic games which is funny as hell but I’m glad to see that other people think this is an underrated gem
This game will always be something I will keep for a long time. Shadow really is a character that is a class of its own that's overlooked as a "copy" of the star. I'm so glad Sega created something so fun and entertaining like this and Shadow the hedgehog is him.

I was honestly not expecting for this to look as fun as it did when you played it on stream, but it looked a lot better than what I had heard growing up. I never even played Shadow cuz I had only really heard bad things about it until like last year, looks way better than Heroes

I feel like if this game only had three path ways (good, neutral, dark) each with around 12 levels that would make the game much more enjoyable. The problem when playing this game in 100%ing and trying to get all the other unnecessary endings. Sure the story is a bit cringe and dark but I feel the gameplay is actually kinda solid if you choose the “pure paths” and not focus on every single one. 5/10 for me

One of my favorite sonic games period,its also one of the few games i can think where you can actually make a character you hate mad on the spot(Black Doom starts whining if you hit one of his aliens etc)
The two things that I liked in the game is the ost and Sonic just vibing in some of the cutscenes😂.

I really enjoyed this game when I went back to it last year. The story is silly but the branching paths and different ending are really fun to explore, and the gun gameplay is handled surprisingly well. It was also a mostly painless game to complete, unlike the previous two games. I think I might prefer Shadow to Sonic Heroes.

Shadow definitely has issues, but it’s far from the worst sonic game out there (which is secret rings btw). It’s not my first choice to replay, but I can enjoy a good shadow romp. And since shadow uses a weapon… I think that sega should bring back the sword gameplay from black knight and give us a hack and slash sonic game, something like dynasty warriors, p5 strikers, etc.

But all jokes aside, "Shadow The Hedgehog" was indeed an underrated game, I agree, Fadel. I question Sega's decision how they made the stories have branches and such, but he was everything Sonic isn't. Shadow is edgy, Shadow ain't for pacifism, even Shadow lives on the edge (No pun intended). And yet, with the new Sonic & Shadow game being in the works in the future, it makes me think that since we MIGHT get the remakes of Sonic Adventure 1 & 2 (I'm on that copium, lmao), it would be interesting if Shadow gets a remake of his own game.
And who knows? Maybe we might get a Shadow The Hedgehog 2. Imagine the copium for that.
We can all agree the space colony levels have by far the worst missions in the entire game, heck I hate the levels themselves.

I should replay it but I was disappointed because it wasn't Sonic ish enough (yeah I missed the point of the spinoff concept), the fact you have to replay it 10 times to reach the true ending was also annoying and this is on me but at the time I also played some Ratchet & Clank games and wanted to see that gameplay with a sonic twist on it, sadly it wasn't that either. In the very least it gave us absolute bangers and the chance to play as Shadow which is still very peak!

It's funny how with the focus on the good ending being Sonic and Shadow. Shadow the Hedgehog was first Sonic Prime with them teaming up for so long. I don't agree with this being above Heroes, cuz lets be honest, majority of heroes was your skill issue lol. Still love ya for it though.
Tell me if you agree, but I always did like how the cast is a buddy every level, and honestly, Forces REALLY shoulda did something like it to sell the war.
My biggest issue with Shadow is his movement, animations and speed. maybe the 3rd worst homing attack which counts for HEROES too, neevr liked the homing attacks in these games.

back in like 2014 when i was relatively still a braindead child i loved the damn shadow theme in this. played it on dolphin when i figured out how to do that and i agree, it's just dumb fun. nothin groundbreaking but it's sonic, what do you expect?

You're making me want to break out my PS2. It was Shadow at his peak. My only gripe was the structure of the story. If it was straight through like hard mode instead of branching pathways, it would be a seamless experience. Still love it though.

Thank you so much for giving this game such a fair assessment!! You nailed it when you said that this game could only be a product of its time. A lot of people love to refer to this era with disdain, but the late 90s/early to mid 2000s will always be special to me. Sonic Team was putting out such massive, ambitious projects and doing such weird and experimental stuff. Whether or not people like the idea of Shadow with weapons, I really loved the idea of cementing his identity as a more aggressive fighter - I feel like it went a long way to give him something unique and separate him from being "lmao Sonic clone." This game's gameplay is an absolute mess, but I can't help but have a soft spot for the whole experience. I did every single ending to this game in my childhood because I just loved Shadow that much, and seeing Super Shadow and hearing that little arrangement of Live and Learn was SO worth it. Not to mention this game gave us I am All of Me, which is STILL one of my favorite Sonic vocal themes of all time.
Also, the CGs in this game were on another level. Name another Sonic game with the raw energy of Sonic fucking dying in the intro video 😂

The dialogue was cringe, and some stages are bad, but overall, it's a good game. It's basically a solo Sonic Heroes with more focus on combat and missions. It's very addicting and has tones of replay value. It has some of the same problems with the physics (acceleration is off, and Shadow is super slippery), but you get used to it really fast. I like the level themes, the halloween castle, inside the computer, the circus, it's pretty interesting. I argue that the cringe dialogue makes it more fun because it makes you laugh sometimes.
I also like the retcons they did to SA2 story, with the black aliens and stuff. I like this game, I with it was rerelease, I would really enjoy playing it on a modern hardware...

I really want to like this game I played it multiple times to try and like it and find something because Shadow’s my favorite Sonic character. But gameplay wise this games feels like a shitty version of Sonic Heroes. I feel more powerful and agile using the character in Heroes. I do like the music though
