Points and Condenser (breaker ignition) Common issues & how to regain spark.

I was recently asked about the old pre 1983 Points ignition and how to fix it to regain spark. This is a quick how to explanation on repairing it and regaining spark.

An old wmb.'s coil asked a magnetron coil "You think you're so hot, explain what makes you so all fired special".The magnetron replied "That would be pointless"...😂

I am replacing an ignition coil on my H50. One thing I can't figure out. How do I replace the spring retainer for the coil holdown? I've watched a few videos but they don't clearly show the retainer in place. It also seems like there may be more than 1 type of retainer clip used . I took a photo of my old engine of the flywheel and cover removed to expose the points but I still am scratching my head trying to figure out how to reinstall it on my new coil. This video is good but it doesn't show the retainer clip in place. Thanks.

I replaced the points and condensor. Set the gap at .02 and still no spark. What now?

Make sure the ground wire is not touching any metal or it will ground it out, of course make sure your throttle is on fast, the ground should hook near the throttle for stop. If that's not the case, you have a bad coil, rarer, but it happens. I have some (full magneto's with good coils), I would put your new points and condenser in my Magneto coil assembly, the points condenser on mine are usually good, but still old so while your doing it, put the new stuff in). If you want I it, can list it on eBay, alongside other stuff I have for sale. Whatever the best prices on eBay for one of them assembly's, I'll beat it by a few bucks. With same or lower shipping.
