Thank you so much Bob! I play an Epoch violin which is an Australian made instrument. This particular one is made from carbon fibre, I find it great for using in my live performances! The writing on the side is the brand of the instrument “Epoch” 😊

Did you know, James Cameron chose to use the American Bethany version of 'Nearer My God to Thee' that is played here, as he thought it would be more recognizable to the audience. But it was actually the British Horbury version that passengers recounted Wallace Hartley and his band playing as the ship took its final plunge. As a British Methodist, Hartley would not have been familiar with the version played in the movie.
I like the tune especially set to the music of Lowell Mason. This hymn, however, is not in my church hymnal. I asked my pastor why not? He stated that thousands of hymns have been written through the centuries, due to space constraints, those on the selection boards must be selective. This hymn unfortunately did not make the cut for several reasons: it lacked in substantive lyrical content acknowledging the persons and works of the infinite, personal, triune God of the Bible. Furthermore, the hymn was written by a Unitarian. Unitarians are not trinitarians. They believe that Jesus was inspired by God in his moral teachings, and that he is a savior; however, they deny that is Christ the second person of the Trinity, that is God himself incarnate.
