i absolutely agree priit. what you are saying about not being flat and protecting the underhook space is vital and true. it makes it almost trivial to defend and escape so called "bad positions"
I am thrilled to have found your videos, man. To be honest I was considering just giving up BJJ, at least for a while. Because of Covid and for the past few months, we've had no official classes, only rolling, and more rolling. I was getting fed up with it. Not that I don't like to roll, but I dislike not really knowing what I am doing - and since I'm not yet a blue belt, I feel like I have to improvise a bit too much. I'm not even requesting specific techniques, but bases, fundamentals, main ideas. I like to know my options and feel like I'm not just reacting and using my strength to overcome difficulty - something that has been hard of late. Anyway, love these videos. They are quite inspiring and open up ideas on things to do, ways to react, instead of the usual problem -> solution we get in most videos (and which often simply do not work, either because they're bad, or because we're too green or simply have a very specific body type).
@@balvsmalvs5425 haha well done, keep the great work, priits material will always be helpful even beyond your white belt, and congratulations for your blue belt :-)
I really hope to take a seminar with you after this pandemie, i really try to study your concepts and i have allready a good outcome with it. Thank you.
YES. THANK YOU. I’ve heard this also from a great MMA / SW coach I trained with / under, then it was the details you show every time you come to Stockholm that cemented it for me! WHY EMBED IN BEGINNERS THE REFLEX AND ACCEPTANCE TO START FROM A VERY BAD POSITION? Thank you coach Priit, amazing work as always.
I have used this position and have good success backwards shrimping into my opponent. Many times they will fall. Also I do an explosive bridge/cartwheel backwards and usually end up in side control top. If they move to north and south I usually can roll into them and have an under hook waiting for me to take. This technique will definitely save your energy. We all know how sucky side control pressure can be
Great video Pritt. Can this position be modified enough to keep you safe from punches, elbows, knees, etc? I like to play this position a lot but when I entertain real fight scenarios while on the bottom it feels like a vulnerable position to be in. What do you think? Strictly for sportive contexts or beyond?
Hi, Priit. I just bought your grilled chicken system. Enjoying it very much. Question about this turning away concept: The first position you showed here seems to put you in a bad spot if we add strikes to the equation (i.e. opponent can punch and kick the back of the head). Would you agree or is there something I'm missing about the position/concept? I ask because I'm trying to keep my jiu jitsu very focused on self defense.
Thank you for the support! I would and how is regular mount bottom or side bottom any different? I actually suggest you should control their hands and if they let go to punch then that is you timing to go and escape. I am showing still frames from the action so I am always trying to lead and not stay put. You learn bjj first with no strikes and then when you are competent one you add them but then you also know more. Point is I am making top guy to grapple me by never having a good solid control.
Hi there. I'm very curious about your approach to surviving and finding comfortability in bottom kesa gatame. I'm sparring with a judo guy and when I end up in the pin the first thing I know is I've already lost the battle for control of my wrist, allowing him to do things to my arm that make me sad. Why am I losing?
I would just say that you would have to find a guy that knows upper body wrestling. I do not have any specific name in mind. My wrestling god is Gary Kolat but he does not talk much about heavy wrist fighting .
QUESTION: If I turn away from my side controlling opponent (he has my back kind of), am I safer coming up on my elbow and using a strong "Stephen Hawking", or staying down then going to turtle or whatever?
It actually depends where are their weight. If you post on the elbow they might have access to it and can kill your post. I did a video about it - underused escape direction - and I will explain stuff there more
I would say it is more like sitting turtle or upright side control. Very useful position when trying to explain things about escaping and staying safe.
Hey Priit! First I want to thank you for your amazing videos and concepts. It's amazing how you can learn and discover new things. Even if you are a black belt for a long time, so many things to learn, and change :-) This video just reminds me videos from Roy Harris: th-cam.com/video/VuYKmTwOgEk/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/sl14KvHdsqQ/w-d-xo.html Roy have incredible jiu jitsu. Does this guy ever gets to the point? Tried to watch lots of his vids, but never watched on to the end.. Like now, 3 min in, and still he has not touched the point...

Epic insights it almost feels like I have been going about the last two years all wrong!

Who/What do you recommend for studying about greco(hand fight)?

Priit your head is dangling in the Air 🤔
System has evolved. I can use boxing shoulder when head is up and also when down. There is a logical progression to make those decisions.
Well, i thinck the judo's guys would like this method, because you "let your back" to the adversary
