    Incredible end result and always a fan of seeing Game Gear's getting love in the modern-era ;) keep these videos coming, I love them! I actually wish there was more wrong with the units so this video was longer :D Such fond memories of my Dreamcast back in the day!

      Yeah. I was bummed that half of them worked out of the box as well.
      Seems that the optical readers are the achilles heel of these devices.
      Thanks for taking time out of your day to provide feedback!

    Dude, something has "A/V problems galore" sticker on it, you are NOT finished with the "repair" after a successful boot...

    Love the Dreamcast. One of my favourite Sega Consoles. Had some amazing games on it. Great video as usual mate. Greetings from the UK.

    Got mine new for $79 at Best Buy!! In late 2000- the black Sega Sports version with NBA/NFL/World Series 2K pack ins.
    I had to replace the disc drive in about 2003, but the replacement is still going strong...got Rayman 2 and looking forward to playing soon!

    For the clock batteries...KEEP THE THINGS ON FOR A WHILE TO CHARGE THE BATTERY.

    Huh, I don't know why I didn't think just putting the plastic shell covered in peroxide cream in the sun would work that well, always seen people using a sealed box wrapped in UV LED strips and just kind of assumed that was the only way to do it, guess I forgot the sun emits UV light lol. Thinking about doing that to my old first gen 360 controllers whenever I refurbish them, all those years of smoking around them didn't do them any favors lol.

    Man, I my old busted ass Dreamcast. And miss that boot up sound. Main reason I got mine was for shenmue, such a great game that was. I still have both, tho my Dreamcast is like an ancient relic looking like hell with it partially opened 😂

    • @retro-af
      @retro-af  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Doesnt take much to get them back up and running!
      Still pimping out that last dreamcast for the next video!

      @@retro-af I ment to put "I miss my busted dreamcast" I was falling asleep lol, anyways ya I think I was either late teen or early 20s when I opened it up (that was still in the early 2000s) so at this rate I might as well just buy a used (hopefully working) one 😂

    What sense does a ten times pricier lithium battery variant make, when it will inevitably die right around the time a normal CR2032 would, after a decade?

    • @based_will
      @based_will 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Because the Dreamcast provides a charge to it. CR2032 are non rechargeable and trying to recharge it will damage the circuitry. You can solder a diode in-line if you want to use a CR2032

    • @Gary_Hun
      @Gary_Hun 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@based_will I know what charging means thanx... you don't get the economy problem i pointed at. The charge is only one half of the picture. Especially since it is negligible for a clock on a motherboard. There is the shelf life of the battery as well. Both types hold up more or less the same, a decade. Maybe two... -ish. And the drain for the clock is not killing the charge of a CR2032 before its shelf life expires. So what is the point of all this charging business... to be perfectly honest i'm finding perfectly fine unused CR2032's lying in forgotten boxes, but my batteries in my Dreamcasts started dying near the end of their first decade, and after, were in this couple years limbo where it acted like being charged during a game session, only to greet me with the set the clock screen a week later... It was a stupid engineering move, there.

    Can I I use 12% liquid hydrogen peroxide instead of the hair gel?

    • @retro-af
      @retro-af  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      12% is too diluted. youll need the 30% or 40% you get from a beauty supply or a retrobrite product

  • @knightwar3
    @knightwar3 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    So any hair bleach that contain hydrogen peroxide can be used for retrobrite i think i might try it one day thanks for sharing

    this stuff just baffles "me" personally. cause "6" like, holy f. bro I still have my original DC (aka i'm not someone in 2024 who JUST bought someone else's DC on ebay etc) from like 2000 (cause it's the Sega Sports edition) never been modded, repaired, or "upgraded"\"updated" and bro, still kicking.
    I still play it at least 2 times a week. sure the whole CMOS battery is dead, but i don't get why people want to repair those in 2024. it does nothing. the DC didn't have a "home" button like xbox. so it's not like you can just push a button and see the date and time while you're playing a game. the DC, you could ONLY see the date and time from the main menu (boot menu\stand by menu) so, you can check your date and time, before you play a game, or after you're done? because if you wanted to check what time it was or date, WHILE playing, you would ALWAYS need to "exit" the game, go back to the menu, see the time and restart the game (because again, this isn't xbox, it's not you "close" the game and "open" it. it's more of like, you "exit" and have to "restart" the entire game again lol).
    and in 2024? i just don't get it. most people SHOULD have "smartphones" by now, so, point is, why "replace" the CMOS, when you can just "play your games" and while playing it, you need to check the date or time? PAUSE the game, check your phone real quick, un-pause the game. no "modding" needed
    I am a Pinball machine collector as well as a video game (systems) collector, and if there is one thing I can tell you (like cars and car people) keep your "original" as "original" as possible.
