I wasted my time in University and now I’m on a leave of absence, trying to get an associates and fix myself. Im getting into a help desk role at my CC and felt like a loser, but I’ve been watching your videos and I feel hopeful again. I’m going to apply what you teach and come out much better. Thank you for doing what you do.
I think the best way to do this would honestly be to find a smallish company hiring you as a one man show for their IT. You can get a "sysadmin" role, but not have to do anything too complicated. Stay for a year or two then you'll always have it on your resume and you can describe it in anyway you want to get a better sysadmin job in the future.
Its definitely a lot harder esp without some form of I.T experience since most sysadmins roles requires existing experience. Its way easier starting in a Support role and make that lateral move internally as long as you re doing more stuff outside of your Support role. Some skill sets you can utilize in a Support role such as Powershell which are transferable skill sets.
I was a Bbs sysop then senior software engineer then help desk, then SA, then field service rep, then a senior principal engineer, then a SA and now a network support engineer (that is actually desktop support)... Titles mean little.
Help desk support could probably help a lot for gaining some basic skills and more 6 months to a year of that and then start applying to system admin type jobs so you have your experience there and add that to your resume from 2023 - current 😅
Hi Josh. There's been a lot of layoffs in the past few months in technology. Who's being affected. I only ask because after watching some of your video's I was convinced this was a stable job field and started school for cyber security. What's your thoughts.
@@sekem5854 Well me and my brother will further our education to cloud support. Cloud is safer for companies and the US D.O.D. put 15 billion towards it. So are there jobs still out there? Yes! Have you tried "hack the box" and CTF(capture the flag)? Those two websites do count for the experience. Are you willing not to be remote and move to get your foot in the door? Anyway, Good luck Sis.
Hi Josh, any thoughts on the private sector vs public sector for IT? Currently in a Sys admin role in an enterprise env. but wondering if making a move to a University is worth it.
What kind of job is the guy that is touching his face so seductively trying to get 😂
Dude is feeling himself, lol

Love this man's voice. I wish he was teaching my course. He puts out a lot of information and is worth a deep dive.

How do you convey projects you take up on your own?
