Thanks for the info! Even 10 years later. Repashy Metronidazole Praziquantel Recipe I used for Infested Goldfish: - 1/3 cup Repashy gel food - 2/3 cups dechlorinated hot (near boiling) water - 3/4 teaspoon Metronidazole - 1/4 teaspoon Praziquantel - 1/2 tablespoon finely minced garlic (from a jar or fresh clove, not sure about garlic powder) OPTIONAL my goldies go nuts if garlic is added for the picky fishy. Measure out dry ingredients and garlic and mix dry in a bowl with whisk. Add water and mix. I pour mine onto a flat surface (baking sheet) with sides. Cut into pieces and store in fridge. Throw away after 14 days to prevent spoilage/mold. I'm not about freezer storage of medicated food. Chime in your thoughts. ***Partly based on Ted's recipe and partly based on API General Cure's ratio between metronidazole and praziquatel ingredients. I bought the medications separately as powders.
Old video, but a great topic. I don't why more people don't talk about dosing medications into food. Dropping it in the water column doesn't seem to do a whole lot when the meds usually need to be ingested to have the desired effect.
Meds are available through most retail aquarium stores and several on-line stores. I am working on possibly offering pre-measured doses of commonly used meds through my website, but need to verify the legality of repackaging meds. Stay tuned to my blog... tedsfishroom com
Physically, yes. I would be a little concerned about over-medicating your fish though. I do not know of any examples of medications that affect each other, or any resource that will warn us about harmful interactions, so I would be careful and maybe run some tests on danios or something.
Hi, I tried checking out the website you’ve commented with below, but the pages don’t work. If I’m using the api general cure (250 mg metro 75 mg prazi per packet), how many would I want to use with this repashy recipe? Thanks!
You can, but the challenge with doing that is the liquid medication will affect the consistency of the finished gel. Another way to infuse the gel with a liquid medication is to make the gel, let it dehydrate, and then rehydrate it with the medication... like soaking a pellet food. But it is hard to get consistent dosing that that way unless the food soaks up all the medication.
Thanks so much for your help!!
This seems like a great way to administer meds to a pleco

This is fabulous, Ted. I'm a huge Repashy fan, but I never thought about adding medications in the mix. Well done, sir! 👍 Thank you for sharing!
