- Today I'll be unboxing, setting up, and installing my new MikroTik RB5009UPr+S+IN switch that will have a 10Gbps uplink to my massive 81Gbps backbone I showed in a previous video.
This switch has 10 options to power it which makes for an extremely versatile switch that can be used in a wide variety of applications.
Fiber in this video is from fs.com
Written documentation is available for most of my videos! Check it out here:

At beginning of video I was confused why you telling about RB5009 as a switch (this is the ROUTER). When you set it as a bridge in configuration I understood why :). But holly cow... you buy RB5009 PoE version to used it in such dump configuration only for switching 😲. This is made to process arround 2.5Gb/s of network connection with hardcore configuration 🔥. Anyway greetings from EU\Poland :)
My internet connection is 10Gb. Hella fast!! Love it. Great for remote access.
Thanks for the video! I just love mikrotik! 🥳
MikroTik is awesome. It’s been great seeing what all they have to offer. Thanks for the support!
Seeing all the people say its a router like you dont know that... im using it the same way, great video. Even on the website Mikrotik recommends this for home labbing.
its routerboard
@@user-fh5hs3nq2u yeah we know that go lab some more bud
Its super nice that you have 10gig internet i cant even get 1g where i live. You could go over kill and get like 4 sfp+ ports and then have your PC have 10gig internet but 2.5 g is more then anyone needs really.
Agreed. I actually only have 1 gig internet and I barely utilize half of it most of the time. 10g fiber is for virtual machine shared storage and live migrations ;)
do you have a link for the second power source on the left of the router?
Unfortunately do not. It’s just a power supply that matches the same voltage as the other. Power supply I had was from an old security camera NVR and it just happened to be the same voltage
The RB5009 is also a router not just a switch 😂
Good video, why did you run SM fiber instead of MM ? SM is good for really long distances. MM is more common for shorter & 10g.
Distance is a few hundred feet but I did single mode because FS.com had a cheaper outdoor armored cable. Probably would go with multimode for everything in the future.
Mikrotik is routerboard
such a waste of money is using this as switch. This is perfect for routing vlans subnets and normal usual routing stuff. You should have bought css series for switching...
Yeah the thing is though that this switch has a ton of ways to power it which was intriguing for me. Definitely cheaper options but I wanted to see what all MikroTik has to offer in some of their more “pro” products.
Please stop lip smacking so annoying, good video though 😊
