Hi Dave, you've got the heart of a lion tackling that in the field, most people would want it in a workshop. well done, loking forward to the next session. Barry
Thanks very much Barry. I'm going to rewatch your excellent videos on the 990 engine before i torque the head and set the clearances, it was very informative. I'll be sure to give you a shout out 👍
Great video Dave, bigger job than you thought but someone might take on the restoration as you have a good start made. Interesting to see the work that goes into getting old tractors to run. Keep the faith you're nearly there.
Thanks very much Kevin. Fair bit in it alright. I've got the head built up and pistons ringed, so hopefully I'll be bolting it together within days. Fingers crossed 🤞
You're a brave man there, Dave. Hopefully, it will be a good runner when it's back together. I just fitted a second-hand pump onto an L200 to find out the injectors are had it but no biggy, so I got some waiting on the seals on the way. Hope you're keeping well. Look forward to seeing the next episode. 👍
Great video... least the david brown engines were over engineered and robust and could still come back from such a state and the spares aren't too hard come by...looking forward too the next installment...👍
another great video with spinning the wrenches, if you would of dropped a valve keeper darn lost in that jungle take a day and field day, I know I have to often to find things, Anyway great to see another new one from you
Excellent video. Glad to see you removed your watch. One only has to connect same with earth and battery power. Not a pleasant experience in a confined space let me say!
That's a tough one - fingers crossed you get it running after all this effort (and cash!) - I'm sure you will... And working on it outside just adds to the fun, eh?
It will be like a new engine, but it needs a total restoration, and fairly costly, unless someone could do it themselves, cant wait to see it running.super video.
Great video Dave, I’ve been waiting for this one, fair play for keeping at it, many’s a man would have give up long b4 now! 😂, hope it fires up for you and I look forward to the next video, great stuff! 👍👍
Almost there Shane. Engine went back together at the weekend. Just need to set the valve clearances and refit injectors etc and she should be good to go, hopefully!!
It's unfortunate that it needs some work to run but hopefully it will be worth the results, i am currently looking to get the windwash system on my 1294 fixed up i am missing the bottle, lines, and a few other parts but i got the mounting bracket and some of the wires from the cab as well as the switch, i would be pleased to get the bottle of the 1394 if it is in good shape and holding fluid since it also fits any david brown and case ^^''
@@davesworkshop2714 hopefully you'll get the 1394 running after replacing the piston and rings and fixing the head, we have a Fiat 880 DT backhoe from 1981 that blew a headgasket last year and when the guys who replaced it worked on it they had to replace all the valve springs and 2 exhaust valves too they did machine the head too but dad thinks it wasn't nessecary but it runs better now and keeps itself cool only 2 exist as far as i know the one dad got and another one a farmer a few kilometers away has too made in 1981 too like dad's but how many that were actually made and exist today is still unknown 😄
@@davesworkshop2714 i am even surprised and shocked how it even managed to run with worn valve springs and bad exhaust valves not to mention 2 of the springs were broken 😅
I was very tempted to, but I don't think the camera does justice to how bad that piston really is, there are bits cracking off it 😂. The valves I could possibly have got away with, but id hate to ruin the new piston 😂
Hi dave only started watching your vids with a few months excellent camera work and great content love working on tractors myself would love to know what county your in kerry myself taught the background on one of your vid looked familiar cant wait fof the third part 👍
Theyre adding up, though if the tractor was going back to work it would be cheap. If the exhaust is covered I'd imagine you'd me fine. I'd check the oil for water and roll it by hand first though.
Dave would it not be worth having the head skimmed or at least check with a straight edge Yea need to remember that you are an educator of young people Are you going to be at the Ploughing as would love to catch up as I’m coming from Australia on my way in Canada saw a lovely project for you here a 8045 Crystal looking a bit sad Keep up the good work Dave Paddy in Oz
Paddy, if it was my own tractor, or definitely being restored, I would get the head skimmed. I'll certainly check it in the next video and make a point of mentioning it and the block should be checked. Thanks for pointing it out! I'm not sure yet if I'll make the ploughing, if I'm going to be in the area I may try, but things are extremely busy. I'll drop you a comment if I can make it along! Thanks again. And if I don't see you, enjoy the trip!
Cant wait for part 3 & see it running 🤠
I hope I don't disappoint Kt 🙂👍
An outstanding 'will it start' series. Going the whole way with it, very comprehensive for the viewer. Great stuff.
Thanks Alan! Part 3 is almost ready to go 🙂👍

Thank you! I just couldn't give up!
Brilliant video Dave you certainly are leaving no stone unturned it's a shame though the tractor isn't going to be restored keep up the good work 👍
Thanks Paul! Someone may take it on, but looking at it, the costs would probably be prohibitive. But then I don't know the market for these well.

Coming on nicely Dave engine will be good as new when re fitted hope the rest of the tractor will be ok

Great video Dave. Looking forward to part 2 and 3
Thanks Rob, back to Cronins for valves Thursday and I'll try and build it up for the weekend 👍

Me too Darrell. Thanks for suggesting the compression test first

Thanks a lot Gavin! Glad you enjoyed it
Brilliant again Dave looking forward to the next. Worth the bobs for the satisfaction at least. 👍🏻
Thanks Olan. When people took the time to watch the previous videos on it I'd have felt bad wasting their time so it was good to get it to fire up.
Yay!!
Hi Dave hope all goes well with the reassembly and it runs good so it can go back to work and make some one happy👍
Thanks Phillip! I'll collect the valves tomorrow so hopefully I can crack on with reassembly!
