The DC Comics Trinity That Never Was

- Only 2 years ago DC Comics tried to create a new trinity of superheroes to drive them into the future. Wes breaks down why Jon Kent Superman, Jace Fox Batman and Yara Flor Wonder Woman all failed to make a mark and ended in abject failure. DEI and SKG scores may make the execs at DC Comics excited, but they were never going to get DC Comics fans. The DC Comics trinity that never was.

Jon Kent had so much potential especially during SuperSons but no Bendis aged him up and Tom Taylor made him gay. So much for Superman's legacy.
Bendis did what that other malevolent bald guy Lex Luthor couldn't-- he destroyed Superman.
I dunked on the awful Bendis for aging him up, but it was probably not his decision. I thought he was in charge of a lot of the stuff, but it doesn't seem so now.
Dceased jon kent is way better and its surprising since tom taylor wrote him
@@RANDOMPEPSIBOTTLESOh yeah. In first DCeased series that scene between Jon and Damian before Jon goes out to confront Superman is great.
Bendis ruined everything with my favorite character Jonathan Samuel Kent superboy for his horrible legion of superheroes book which nobody liked myself included.
It’s a shame they couldn’t naturally develop characters to come into their own as a new trinity through hood storytelling instead of focusing on the agenda of making a “diverse” justice league.
The problem with DC is that nothing progress ever. Nightwing has been in the wings for 30 years.
The sidekicks stay sidekicks even when you time jump. Jon Kent eventually lacks a slot to be unique
Didn’t read Blunder Woman or Blackman but totally agree about how good Tomasi’s Super Sons was and how bad Tom Taylor’s book was. Hope Jon gets de-aged and his adult stuff is forgotten.
I wish they would retcon current Jon Kent by saying he's actually some brainwashed, sleeper agent variation of Superboy Prime and the real Jon Kent is still a kid and hidden away in the Phantom Zone or some other pocket universe.
@@robertgray1365 Nope, this is the REAL Jon, just aged up
Sorry, but we are NEVER getting back 10-year old Jon. This aged-up version is here to STAY, forever!
@@MatthewLoh-ru1mw pff dcu is constanly replacing heroes for others versions of themselves, they do that all the time, our current superman (jon s dad) is a replacement for the old one thanks to a flashpoint.
Ethan Van Schiver called it the "we're not gonna pay you royalties Justice League" 😂
Wonder Woman’s new daughter is actually named Trinity, Wes. Which is all kinds of sad irony.
Yara could have worked if she hadn’t been rushed. Several people I’ve talked to are upset that her CW tv show didn’t happen, but I always say “ she didn’t have enough material to adapt into a show!”. Her first storyline wasn’t even done yet 🤦🏽♂️
Jon is still a good character when he’s written by people other than Tom Taylor. Philip Kennedy Johnson has been handling him pretty well in action comics and addressing his issues with being aged up in a mature way, which still proves him with potential stories and growth.
Jace Fox was a lost cause because Batwing is already “ nighttime black Batman and The signal is “ Daylight Black Batman “. So all Ridley could do was make Jace be “ Angry Black Man stereotype Batman “.
She won't last long
When DC aged up John Kent, they took a character with so much potential and just turned him into a character without a place. If you want a younger less experienced supes, you have superboy, supergirl. Now he's just younger superman that's bisexual and doesn't have a solo series.
No one will read it
I really wish we could have a deaged Jon Kent and let him grow up organically. I know it will never happen.
R.I.P Super Sons...
It might happen if there's a New reboot
Jon Kent was the most loved character during dc rebirth and then they aged him up and then it's all downhill from there.
Indeed
Everyone who was even vaguely part of this event writers, editors, and artists.
Should just be blacklisted from the industry with maximum prejudice.
14:24 It’s true. When Hippolyta arrived on Man’s World to join the JLA as Wonder Woman during the Bendis Justice League run, she didn’t do anything aside from sitting down and standing up or something.
DC needs a flashpoint as soon as possible. Erase infinite frontier, make Jon a kid again, restore the JL run, and Darkseid has to be the main villain.
But this time, make Zoom do the flashpoint.
And maybe superwonder
Blackman, brown Wonder Woman, and gay Superboy all failed and I wasn’t surprised when this was first announced. I’ll admit I do like Yara’s character design. Too bad she was quickly forgotten (same goes for black Batman). The only reason Superboy lasted longer was because he was gay.
Uh huh, dc needs another reboot
''Guys! Great idea! Lets take the three most famous superheroes in history and replace them with three characters no one cares about but are otherwise identical to them apart from surface level traits!''
You know you know what's really messed up they claim their pro diversity but they don't even have any mixed characters you know they're basically implying that you can only be diverse if you're a whole race not mixed you know how would they like that
One of the Green Lantern was mix races but people often call him a white guy because he doesn't look diverse enough.
what a weird complaint
diversity...except people of various differing religious and political beliefs.
@@Underworlddream hahaha he isn't Drake Enough hahaha 🤣

Bendis's destruction of Jon Kent is what caused me to quit buying comics after coming back for Rebirth. Jon's adventures with his Dad, Damian, and Kathy were such great stuff.
I also remember Yara Flor having much more favor with the fans than other diversity creations, thanks to being a conventionally attractive Wonder Girl complete with the Brazilian trademark Wonder Bunda, drawn by a talented artist. But it ultimately didn't have anything more to offer.
Don't care at all about black Batman, but I will say that the obvious reason for Simon Baz and Jessica Cruz being dumped in spite of being diversity BOGOs (Baz being Arab and Muslim, and Cruz being Latina and female) is because they have an EVS connection.
What’s EVS?

@@BiggieTrismegistusremember that awful Sina grace green lantern story in the 80 year anniversary book. I thought that was aimed at evs
Trying to "kill" copyrighted AND trademarked characters/IP is oxymoronic. It isn't the highest stakes anymore, and the real creatives will figure out conflicts that have true stakes for characters other than constantly threatening to "kill" them.
I don't do race or gender swapping.
Wes are you going to explain ESG?
Yara Flor Wondergirl was one of the better DC comics released that year. Yeah it had no plot, but really nice art and nothing offensively bad in the writing. (This is an indictment on the awful state of 2020s DC comics rather than a genuine praise for the title.)
8:56 From what I’ve read about Jace Fox’s pre-Crisis and pre-Flashpoint history, he resented his father Lucius for working for the Wayne Foundation because he things that the Wayne Foundation exploits black people (or something like that). That is until a Dick Grayson Robin backup revealed the truth, causing Jace to apologize to his father and reconcile their relationship. He made a cameo appearance in a issue of Batman: Gotham Knights in 2002 before he made his post-Flashpoint appearance in 2021.
13:24 Wonder Woman gets caught up in Trial of the Amazons last year and Revenge of the Gods this year.
Why can't they just bring back the original 10-year old Kent; and let this other one be from an alternate timeline? Problems solved, and adorable Superboy restored! And we allow Jon Kent to be a Kid again!
I can't stop thinking this. He went through a black hole; easily could have been split into two in the event horizon...
@@tomteacher5885 yeah, they even used the 'split in two' thing to fix Superman with New 52 Superman and post-Flashpoint Superman merging together.
I want 10 year old Jon Kent back so badly. His relationship with Damian was great and it was fun seeing Superman and Lois be parents. There were a *lot* of stories that could be told about the son of Superman growing into a adulthood and we just skipped them all. It was such a disappointment.
My issues with Yara was she was kind of unnecessary, because DC already ignores or they screw up, the Wonder Woman family as it was, they already had Diana, Nubia, Donna, Artemis, Cassie, etc, so adding Yara made no sense to me, and they just added another character to be lost in the shuffle. Also them messing with the JL, the Teen Titans/Titans and Young Justice, etc. teams didn't help either.
Edit: Why is DC so stupid? They rush, ignore, or destroy characters, copying Marvel's mistakes, which make no sense. It's like they copied Marvel's Marvel Now/All New, All Different approach, which don't make sense. Also DC can't help but commit suicide or self sabotage every time something good is going, but they don't seem to stop or they let mistakes go on for too long. I know one of the many issues is leadership, also getting the same writers, etc. Also Trinity makes even less sense. Nubia has been written badly, Artemis was separated from Red Hood for reasons. Donna and Cassie has been ignore and Nubia it seems for the most part and most of all Wonder Woman, her writing, has probably been trash. She barely interacts with her family, BTW.
Rebirth is what got me back into comics afterI stopped buying them for financial reasons in about 2010 and a lot of those books were really good. They brought back old characters and the post-Crisis continuity! Then DC shot themselves in the foot by trying to introduce a bunch of new characters after having so much success with the old ones. It was such a stupid idea.
@@BiggieTrismegistus , they wasted so much potential with New Aged of Heroes, then Bendis came, and kind of screwed things up, I think.
They white-washed Artemis, too. She's supposed to be Egyptian, not white. The red hair and green eyes are from her getting demon powers when she came back from the dead.
One word: Yuck!
I just thought of something. Maybe they’re putting out crap to show how dumb the ESG score is
These people know exactly what they are doing. Don't be so forgiving.
Clark Kent, Bruce Wayne and Diana Prince were, are, and always will be Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman respectively. Doesn’t matter how many new iterations are introduced. Jon started off great as his own character, but I’m not considering him a replacement for the man of tomorrow.
Independients Editorials mucks DC and Marvel Comics, Trinity is Diana Prince, Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent is Forever.
I assume that Jon Kent as Superman failed because everyone (including myself and yourself) wanted Jon Kent to be in his pre-Bendis incarnation (i.e. Supersons, Rebirth Teen Titans for which I called them the second-generation Young Titans, forming a romantic relationship with Kathy Branden Beacon, and becoming Superman after naturally reaching adulthood); while Jace Fox as Batman failed because of the writing and characterization and that he doesn’t fit as Batman (in which I would prefer him as the Flying Fox because it’s a better code name); while Yara Flor as Wonder Woman failed because not affiliated with the Wonder Woman family, replacing Donna Troy and Cassie Sandsmark as Wonder Girl, and her story being used in the Cloonrad Wonder Woman run and the upcoming Amazons Attack series that will be a part of Tom King’s Wonder Woman run.
yup that's right.
The problem of Marvel and DC Comics is Woke and LGBT.
Amen
It's not that these characters suck. They're just poorly written and forced down are throats. Maybe if they weren't legacy characters they would've faired better.
Jon Kent went from being one of my favorite new characters to being my most disliked character in the span of only 4 years
DC will keep trying to replace their legacy characters because they still don't want to have keep paying the creators' estates.
Keep Yara. As for the others, send everyone who read them to a Taylor Swift Concert so they can have minds wiped.
Jon Kent was absolutely destroyed as a character once Peter J Tomasi stopped writing him.
Will never forgive Bendis aging him up
I remember liking Yara in her original couple issues, but that's around where I quit comics.
Also, the way the artist drew Hades, was one of the coolest designs I'd seen in years.
yeah the artist was good for her
Joelle Jones is an amazing artist.
@@BiggieTrismegistus Yeah, I loved her art ever since I discovered her in her own comic "Lady Killer" which is good, but I think as a writer, she's better with more mundane stuff, her thing doesn't seem to be super heroes.
I'll never forgive Bendis for ruining the Super family. It was such a fun part of Clark's life, being a dad. They took that from him and us.
I quit reading Wonder Woman after 778 and I'm really glad I did. The G. WIllow Wilson and Mariko Tamaki issues were lousy, and I was really getting tired of the series. I've moved on to My Hero Academia, which is vastly superior.
I was about starting to pick up Wonder Woman books. Can you give me your opinions on her run ever since 2011?
@@theapexfighter8741 I don't remember all the details of the earlier books, but I was basically ok with the books until G. Willow Wilson took over in 2018. Her stories were pretty lame. I was more or less ok with Steve Orlando, though I skipped 754, as I am not interested in some writer's political agenda. The later books were not all that exciting, and I quit following the series after 778.
At least Yara Flor was hot. lmao
Yara Flor had so much potential. A great design by a great artist, by Joelle Jones' writing wasn't on par with the visuals. Then, even worse, she got on Cloonrad's hands with that awful event. I love Jessica Cruz, I don't get why she's not a mainstay, especially with how a lot of the population has anxiety these days, she had appeal in that department. She's also latina, so those were inclusion points too, but no, inclusion only means black or gay.
Jessica Cruz probably got her diversity card revoked because she was co-created by Ethan Van Sciver.
I agree that Jessica Cruz should be used more. She was awesome in _Justice League Odyssey._ I dunno; maybe it's not politically correct nowadays to show a woman that isn't a super-confident girlboss in everything she does.
Also Fire from Fire and Ice is Brazilian too. But they ignore or they use them rarely.
They didn't use Jessica because of the person who created her - and yes they were that petty and stupid despite the character actually being within their check mark box.
There could only be one Wonder Woman in my eyes but I saw real potential in Yara as a new Wonder Girl. I haven't liked any of the WGs since Donna was young but I think I could have liked Yara.
All of these failures are intended to disrupt the thing you enjoy in your life.
Yara Flor at least had a cool character design.
Did DC forget that Jessica Cruz is Hispanic and Simon Baz is Lebanese and Muslim. Apparently they don't care that much about diversity. 😅 and they both have much bigger fan bases than all these newer jabronies.
Jessica Crus was made by Ethan
and Simon Baz is definitely homophobic
What people wanted was Jonathan Samuel Kent superboy as his little 10 year old back to normal and plus people like me want the return of the super sons not bullshit writing by Bendis who ruined everything with his horrible legion of superheroes book and his horrible superman run which failed badly really badly and proves my point more and more I was right and DC should just stop and deage Jonathan Samuel Kent superboy back to normal and stop doing horrible stories with Son of kal-el series which also failed badly and failed Jon kent becoming superman which didn't work and destroyed everything for crap at least in my opinion. The point is having Jon kent becoming superman was never going to work and just also proves my point that DC keeping him the way he's now doesn't work and they should admit defeat and stop pushing this idea and just give us back the real Jonathan Samuel Kent superboy like in the flash book by Jeremy adams and say the one we have now is a imposter who goes way and we get are jon kent back and boom problem solved everybody wins but that's just my opinion on that situation of my favorite character and a solution to save him.
Now as for the other two characters like Yara florr and Jace fox batman lets face facts both of those characters were doomed to fail because frankly nobody gives a damn about Jace fox batman, he's so boring and not interesting to wear the mantle of batman because news flash DC comics you already have a black character who's similar to batman named Luke fox aka batwing right there and plus we have Bruce wayne batman still active right now. So yeah by that logic Jace fox batman was doomed to fail and was never ever ever going to work period end of story, as for yara florr wonder girl she had so much potential to keep on going and could've been a great successor but unfortnately due to her creator leaving the character all together and plus her book not doing anything interesting her story on the other hand got unfinished and plus I don't think people would've actually cared about her as wonder woman because well we have Diana Prince as wonder woman right there and having her be replace with this new chick named Yara florr was just a doomed experiment that was never going to work at least in my opinion.
My point is in general as to why I am saying all this is just simple nobody gives a damn about this new trinity because it wasn't organic but a force editorial decision that was doomed from the start, and plus people liked me actually give a damn about the original trinity not these knockoffs replacements that was just designed to replace the old guard without proving to us the audience why we should care about them, that's why this trinity failed and was never ever going to work period at least in my opinion.
If DC was smart enough then they would use Damian Wayne as Bruce’s replacement. Tom Taylor destroyed Jon Kent and DC knew what Tom Taylor was doing. Yara could have been done better if they had her in Young Justice or Teen Titans.
Here is my version of the Earth-One/New Earth/Prime Earth Trinity in generations.
Generation 1: Kal-El/Clark Kent Superman, Bruce Wayne Batman, Diana of Paradise Island/Diana Prince Wonder Woman
Generation 2: Kara Zor-El/Linda Lee Danvers Superwoman, Dick Grayson Nightwing, Donna Hinckley Donna Troy
Generation 3: Conner Kent Superman, Tim Drake Red Robin, Cassie Sandsmark Fury
Generation 4: Jon Kent Superboy, Damian Wayne Robin, Lizzie Trevor Trinity
this why legacy characters didn't work - company makes 22 Wolverine replacements and yet they want money-milk from Original as well, so any story of "Death of Superman" type meaningless, just look at death of Kamala in ASM, "Most shocking thing in last 40 years of ASM" ffs she been revived later month.
14:45 Here name is Elizabeth “Lizzie” Prince aka Trinity.
Man Yara Flor is awesome and full of potential. Just use her right!!
Thats how WRITERS work these days. WRITER: "We have a great story. We make this new guy Batman." FANS: "Alright. What is the story behind it? Why will he be the new Batman?" WRITER: "Because.... its cool!" FANS: 🤔
Jon, Jace and Yara failed because they were never characters. They were stunts. For all the flak people want to make about Jean Paul Valley, the 4 replacement Superman and Kyle Rayner, their stories are clear and distinct and are revisited.
On the topic of Batman being black, it would have made more sense if it were Luke Fox instead of Jace imo.
End of the day, the Trinity has been around for 85 years, they are ingrained in culture. Everyone knows Bruce Wayne is Batman, everyone knows Clark Kent is Superman. A Grant Morrison might be able to get people to accept Dick Grayson for a while, but that's one of the biggest name writers using an equally established character. But then Batman is the biggest thing in DC by a ridiculous amount, and the company is not in a spot where they should be fucking with what little they have that works.
The reason why I think Jon, Jace, Yara failed was because they weren’t given enough time for both the reader and the characters around those three to earn their titles as great successors to their. Whereas characters like Dick, Kara, Donna, Tim, Conner, and Cassie worked was because we got to see them grow and develop to their potential and their bond with their mentors helped us show why they earned their position as successors to their mentors. Jon, Yara, and Jace did not earn their position it was given to them and their development was rushed especially the way DC tried so hard to push them.
Jon could have worked had they not aged him up into an young adult, just because they were too lazy to develop his character, and instead rushed his character development and try so hard to make him a better successor than Kara or Conner.
Yara didn’t really have a big connection with Diana and the other major Amazons, and it was clear that dc only care about the fact that she was Brazilian while pushing Donna Troy and especially Cassie Sandsmark to the sidelines. And because of that, Yara didn’t go through the same process as Donna and Cassie that earned them respect for both in universe and with fans.
Jace really didn’t get any deserved development to make him Bruce’s successor as Batman. We barely saw working alongside Bruce, seeing him interacting with the rest of the bat family, and to top it off, he was honestly a character who wasn’t even supposed to exist as they were plans to have Luke Fox as Batman but once Dan Didio left and show spite towards him they created Jace to replace Luke as the new Batman.
It’s also worth noting that the only reason why DC pushing Jon, Jace, and Yara to be the next trinity was because they were supposed to be the trinity for an era in DC that never ended up happening which was 5G. This also contributes about what I said about the new Batman originally being Luke Fox and not Jace Fox, as Luke was supposed to be the new Batman for 5G, but as we know 5G didn’t happen and closest thing we got from it was Future State.
I'm so glad I switched to Manga and Manhwa. I actually enjoy reading again and can't wait to see what happens next. Haven't looked back at all.
@@kasrasadrehashemi174 Are you an idiot? No one said anything about gay people at all. But since you brought it up, there have been zero in the dozens I have read.

Which one is gay , trans or none binary
THAT'S A BINGO
It’s just such a terrible era in comics, if the industry survives it’ll be looked back on as the dark times.
Yara Flor was the ultimate example of a good character design not meaning a good or compelling story. Very 90's Image comics.
Last year, they actually put out Hershey bars with those three and other replacement superheroes on them. I was at my Fred Meyer back in March or so and they had boxes of them sitting out, all of them past the pull date.
I like jon to in the new trinity but without the gay and black batman and Brazilian wonder woman.
20:55 Jon Kent is going to be in the upcoming Beast Wars event, while Jace Fox last appeared in Dawn of DC: Primer as a cameo and as one of the superheroes who is about to get shot or killed by Amanda Waller’s villains, while Yara Flor is going to be in the upcoming Amazons Attack miniseries that will spin out of Tom King’s Wonder Woman.
Would’ve worked if they didn’t try to push their message
The only Trinity that’s not Bruce , Diana & Clark is the Dark Trinity (Red hood , Artemis & Bizzaro) as they were allowed to evolve natural & were never forced upon us as the trinity’s replacement but an alternate trinity with different moral codes
As characters I love Jon & Yara but DC destroyed them & the whole 5G trinity idea was already a 💩show before they started implementing it
The easiest way to check if the publisher has done the work to establish a new hero, is imo by trying to name the three most important villains created for that hero. Oh, he is just replacing xyz and doesn’t have a single villain of his own? Nope, that character is neither established nor very important.
This is like what? 2 BILLION times they did this while trying to figure out the time line of dc which is like solving a bootleg jigsaw puzzle that clearly unsolvable because it is not even a jigsaw puzzle to begin with. Just an air travel toothpaste and a piece of a wet paper that is probably a grocery list. Yeah so, the quality of dc comic is pretty much like that. Also marvel as well.
There's just no incentive to build up or properly steward marquee characters, much less up and coming ones. Everyone wants to push their own original characters in the off chance it gets adapted to some other media. They know what happened to Brubaker and his good work on Winter Soldier getting him squat. Better in their eyes to bury the competition than build on someone else's success. Most are just in comics hoping to eventually get into writing movie or TV scripts anyway.
Warner Brothers just keeps wondering why their movies are failing. The rot begins at the bottom.
Awesome work mate
My mind always skips past Future State, because I did when it hit the shelves. But, did buy Swamp Thing, &...yeah, Yara Flor. How was I not gonna buy 5 copies & a variant?!
i cant imagine why they thought jace fox as batman would work
Truthfully, they should have gone with what has the most potential, which would be a storyline where Wonder Woman would become a mother, build up Jon as Superboy and keep having him go on adventures with Damian, maybe join the Teen Titans and eventually become the Leader when Damian turns 18, and wait a bunch of years to put them into their destined roles. Truthfully the Trinity Future that I heard about where Wonder Woman has a daughter that goes by Trinity is perfect for it.
Trying to ride on the coattails of popular characters is loser strat. It will never work. You need to mark your OWN territory. They will always just be a gimmick character living in the shadow of the actual legitimate popularity of the character whose valor they are trying to steal. I really think it's racist of them to set diverse characters up for failure in this way. People liked Static Shock. Why is he not a household name by this point? Cause they have no faith in new characters and can't risk letting some fail until one strikes gold.
i couldn't tell you a damn thing about modern jace fox.
In the silver age there was an offshoot of the amazons who left the island and settled in the amazon rainforest like the amazons of bana mighall
In the Silver Age Superman also tried to bang his cousin. Not everything worked.
Bro, you were on a roll there at the end. I could really feel your disdain for how DC has just mucked up everything 😂
Kids demands Superman and Wonder Woman couple returs in DC Comics is future of Editorial.
They fumbled the growing success of Super Sons, and I honestly haven't heard of the other two characters.
Gotta stand against you on that Amazon point. When Amazons are mentioned the first thing that comes to mind are thee jungle women variety. The greek ones are the weird ones. Yara could have made it. Good design, lots eye candy, and a likable character unfortunately hiccup was giving her rhe Wonder *Girl* title makes her seem like sidekick book that can be passed on should have pulled a Miles Morales move and had double dip have two books out there called Wonder Woman.
the problems with jon dc don't know what to do with him after he grew up because clark is still active
and for jace
bruce have already good successors like dick , damian and terry
there is no need for jace if there are already good batman substitutes🤷🏻♀️
The could have fixed Jace Fox by changing his name to one used by a previous Black Batman from Earth2. How many Wonder Girls does DC need? I couldn't get into Yara Flor cause I've heard women from Brazil talk and any dialogue I read gave me a headache.
The code name the previous Black Batman, Charley Bullock, used on Earth-Two is Blackwing.
They're very successful at saving $$$ for potential readers.
They need to used the Supersons to set up the new Trinity. Add a Wonderwomen standin, let the comic runs a few years before having a animated show. It can't be rush , they have to go slow and steady. Also have them deal with normal stuff, nothing poltical.
Legacy heroes are useless unless used as a vehicle like Castlevania where Dracula returns every century or so and we get a new Belmont. It’s a dumb trope and the original always comes back. Pros need to carve a niche for these characters and see if they either succeed or fail on their own merits.
These books were terrible the ideas were terrible. We don’t need more of the same characters.
Jace Fox Batman was a bad idea since the begin.Yara Flor have a very boring personality and she's not charismatic like Diana or Donna.Jon Kent was a very good character but was ruined by Bendis and by Tom Taylor. The new Trinity failed because DC is just too damn incompetent to do great new brand characters.
I think it’s funny how poorly they tried to replace green lantern and flash. Why create Jo and Jess quick (seriously couldn’t think of a different name, Joshua Williamson?) when you already have Kyle Rayner, Jessica Cruz, Simon Baz, Wallace west, Avery ho and Wally’s kids who are all diverse? Like how freaking stupid
When you create a character ONLY for the reason of making them diverse, it is IMPOSSIBLE to create a compelling character that anybody will care about. And that is the only reason they are doing this. So these characters will never replace the originals. Nobody cares about them.
The Dark Titans - Conner Kent (Superman), Tim Drake (Batman), and Cassie Sandmark (Wonder Woman) were better successors than Jon, Jace, and Yara. But let's be honest I don't think anyone like to Jace Fox and would have just been fine with Luke Fox taking over.
And then they made a new trinity that has Jon, Damian, and Elizabeth as the future Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman.
The other thing you also need to understand here Wes is that when you have the original Trinity that are the fan favorites for many years it's hard to replace characters like that unlike Marvel which they took the time to make the new characters to replace the old ones.
For example in the late 80s to early 90s they try to replace Thor, Captain America, and Iron Man with War Machine, U.S. Agent and Thunderstrike. It wasn't until many years later that they decide to go with other Legacy Marvel characters like Sam Wilson Falcon, Jane Foster Thor, and Riri Williams Iron Heart.
DC on the other hand has that problem where they don't try to pair up other characters to replace the ogs they have many like Dick Grayson Robin who's Batman twice. First time was after the Knightfall incident and the second time was Battle for the cowl. Then you had Donna Troy the first Wonder Girl to replace Diana then Cassie Sandmark. Conner Kent was the same way too, but when fans are so invested into the original characters is just hard to replace them.
Yeah i avoided those woke characters. What crap
The Next Decade and the Day Public Domain comes for Bruce and Clark is going to be a heck of a Day.
With respect to new intriguing DC characters, I have more hope with characters like City Boy, the agents in the Vigil, and Sideways (please bring this character back). Their power sets, limitations, and origins are all rather different than the status quo A-list DC heroes. Let's put a spotlight on characters that are not repeats of GL, Flash, Supes, Bats, Aquaman, or Wonder Woman. Give these "different" heroes a Marvel Agents of SHIELD world (government controlled secret spy espionage environment) in bank heist style scenarios. I would buy that!
They were so trying to follow the Namor reimagined thing the mcu did with the new Wonder Woman thing😆.
Woke has been in comics. Heroes and villains. Stories about friendship and love. Doing the right thing at the right time. To be a Superman. That's what the comics are all about. And not about the sensitivities of one or the other group that wants to be heard at all costs. We heard you!!! Finally leave our heroes alone and treat us to the story worth reading. ✌
I would actually be for this if they put it on its own earth. And not change their origins so that they’re from that earth, but take that trio or foursome and put them on an earth with no superheroes, let them adapt and deal with their issues together as they become the big JLA of that earth.
The best thing about this Legacy Trinity is they now have absolutely no legacy. Hahaha.
What happen to Jon Kent is enough said. Heck I am still angry at adventures of Jon Kent series. It is worst comics of 2023.
And Tom Taylor too scare to stick with Jon Kent becoming a Tyrant Plotline.
Jace Fox. He is so miserable and
An A$$hole. And the Fox Family is miserable as well.
I still remember Jace’s Dark Crisis Tie in and Sinstero literally screws up and he let’s Jace win. That was so annoying. Sinstero would’ve win against Jace Fox.
I Agreed next Batman should’ve been Luke Fox or Duke Thomas. Because they both have good relationships with Bruce Wayne. But Sadly Stephanie Phillips Butchered Luke Fox in her Harley Quinn comic. You know the one. Where Luke Fox said you can’t shoot Racism and Homophobia. Luke complain he was forced into the Crime Fighting war that wasn’t his. God dang it Stephanie Phillips. Stop butchering character. The Only good thing that happened to Luke is that he’s dating Vixen now.
Duke Thomas doesn’t have a lot of focus recently. His Recent appearance was in Chip Zdarksy’s Batman. Zdarksy was making a nod to The Wayne Family Webtoon. But Duke should has his own solo run. Two of his friends, Riko and Daxton from We are Robin are now criminals. Can we focus more on that? I saw there’s there’s a new comic Call Speed Force featuring Wallace West and Avery Ho as the main leads. Signal can guest appear in that comic. And befriending Wallace. I see it Siginal and Batgirl team up with Kid Flash and Flash of China.
Yara Flor. I said it before, She is the less offensive out the new Trinity. There is so potential with her. With Her powers and origins coming from Brazil instead of Themyscira. Also her Dad is Brazilian God. It can lead to so many opportunities and obstacles for Yara Flor to overcome. Like The Greek Amazon should’ve shunned Yara for not being traditional Greek Amazon. Plus Isn’t Grail, The Daughter of Darkseid, also daughter of an Amazon. Grail could be a Yara’s arch enemy.
But sadly just Hawkman, *“Yara Flor was forced to be in Becky Cloonan’s “Trials of The Amazons Event instead of flesh her out in her own series. And after Yara Flor comic got cancelled Joëlle Jones has not return to DC comics since*
And now Yara Flor is getting handed to other writers. The Cloonrads, Currently Joise Campbell in Lazarus planet, War of Gods(It has nothing to do with Lazarus planet).
14:52 Well Wes, Yara Flor is gonna be in *Joise Campbell’s Amazon Attacks* in October( Issue 2 cover in Nov solicits of Amazon Attacks looks bad it has mob of Angry men). And in the Yara is gonna be in Tom King’s Dirty Hands. So prepare yourself.
And I agreed the Idea of Yara Flor have a TV show especially on CW is Terrible Idea. Look at CW’s Naomi. It was not good.
14:15 and Hippolyta Dies in Trial of the Amazon. And Vita Ayala reveals Hippolyta asked Artemis to kill her. Which is a complete copy of Dumbledore asking Snape to kill him.
And the words for Donna Troy *”All of this was for nothing?”
I just wish that Yara is a young kid and Cassie Sandmark is the one who mentor her.
Hey Wes who be the third person if you had to make a Trinity using Hal & Barry?
DC just keeps crashing once-promising characters...Yara Flor, Jon Kent, even going back to Kyle Raynor (remember him?), Bart Allen/Impulse, and Cassandra Cain/Batgirl IV. At least the last couple had decent runs, with Kyle fading out and Cassandra getting horribly mishandled then brought back to be forgotten, *sigh*. The worst is when writers buy into the idea that the existing heroes have be downgraded while simultaneously "talking up" the newcomers, which is ham-handed and works just about this side of never in getting a legacy character over. And Jon Kent? Honestly, he was "aged up" specifically because Bendis wanted to use him in his really bad run at LSH AND didn't want to try writing a preteen hero.
Now, since we know the Clark Kent would never simply step aside and allow Jon Kent (again, his ten year old son) and wife Lois to go off into space with his CLEARLY unstable "long-lost father" Jor-El (which Kal-El should clearly have suspected as being an ersatz version, since he acted nothing like the main timeline Jor-El, who died with Krypton), this mess should be easy to explain away. What we saw on the printed page was an alternate Earth version, one whose Superman succumbed to the parallel world Jor-El's mental manipulation, and subsequently lost his son and wife. Through a time/space warp, the older Jon Kent ended up in Earth-Prime's dimension, while "our" Jon Kent (only 11 years old) and Lois have been stuck...elsewhere. So then we get a story where the "real" Superman discovers this and goes on a cosmic quest to recover his actual family.
En flash 797 apareció un jon y damian siendo niños junto a los mellizos de wally y la hija de animal mal que habrá pasado con ellos , me pregunto de universo vienen o si ellos viajaron al futuro o algo asi ?
The fact that they pat themselves on the back for Jace Fox when CASSANDRA CAIN was Batman's chosen successor shows they don't really even care about genuine diversity, just checkbox bullshit. If they actually cared about diversity, they'd go with rewinding to 2006 and then bring the OG Cass Cain back to become Batwoman and give her the Legends of the Dark Knight book as her solo title. Instead they need to use her as MSG flavoring to keep the Stephanie Brown book afloat since she's a boring non-character.
Bendis works for Marvel. His mission was to destroy Superman. Job executed. Now we need someone to fix it all. Someone who likes comics. And who respects the characters. Maybe Geoff Johns. He's no Bendis. Certainly not. Hopefully it's available. And Bendis must never again be given a relevant character. NEVER AGAIN. 😒
