- Film Bros and I have a very complicated relationship and past, so with that being said, let's piss them off a bit more by ranking 32 of their favourite movies in a tier list designed by yourse truly!

I finally found a well adjusted person who shares my exact thoughts on The Dark Knight being just OK.
We must stick together!
have fun being wrong
Joker is not a "carbon-copy" of Taxi Driver. It's a direct downgrade. Taxi Driver doesn't glorify Travis, makes the point it tries to get through very clear and it's not a huge "society bad" movie. The only redeeming quality of this movie (that makes it close to TD anyway) is the cinematography and Joaquin's acting but honestly he's never bad.
Nah Joker is easily the better Version.
Actually, Le Samouraï is the first “literally me” film.
I have a feeling Dune + Dune 2 will make it on the Film Bro list.
I can see that but if they were both would be in Genuine Cinema with Dune 2 just slightly behind
@@kritpickproductions nah they're both just ok, and dune 2 is better than part 1
How the hell anyone wouldn't like Goodfellas??? This is just insane.
I like it, I just don't... love it...
Not every story needs characters to change or "move",... seven is a great film, and the thing that makes it really cool is that the characters are so persistent in their own ways
NOOO!!!! Not Donnie Darko in actually bad 😭
That’s like the only placement I majorly disagree with though. I’m glad we can agree that The Usual Suspects sucks
I'm being a lil hyperbolic ofc but yeah I do not vibe with it at all lmao
Hey man, I just want to say that I came here from your Possession video! I couldn't disagree more with your reading of the film so I thought I wouldn't much like your videos, but this one was GREAT! I appreciate your opinions because they seem incredibly genuine and true to you.
I really hope you'll see this, but I just wanted to touch on Possession for a second. I have seen it three times in the past two months now as I was showing it to others, and I LOVE it.
My issue is it's became more and more solidified in my brain that, at its core, Possession is a film about abuse. Not only abuse, but the mistreatment of women societally. Adjani's character is 100% the victim in my mind, and Sam's character is a personification of the lengths humanity - and more specifically men, have gone to suppress and exert power over women. It reads as an INCREDIBLY pro-woman film to me, and I hope you could one day view it again and watch it from the perspective of a powerless woman who is stuck in a relationship with somebody she is scared of and resents, which leads her to attempting to escape the relationship, albeit through the most extreme ways possible.
Anyway, you've got a new fan. Great video with hopefully more great ones to come. 😁
Hey man, first of all, I read every comment so definitely leave one anytime you got something to say. I love the conversation!
You know, I actually encourage people to not just agree with me but equally disagree. Because I'm of the opinion that everyone's opinion is just as valid as my own, so as long as it's coming from a good place, I love to hear other people's views on movies and art even if they don't line up with my own. That being said, I've never actually seen this interpretation of Possession before and I love it. I think it's a movie so complicated and dense that honestly both of our views could be correct, or just yours or just mine. It's a fascinating piece. Next time I get round to seeing it, I'm definitely going to keep this in mind and try to see it through this lens. On another note, I think this is a very well thought out and written comment, which I really appreciate so thank you for that...
But yeah, thank you for the kind words. I do try to be as genuine as possible to myself on this channel, I try not to do videos on films just because they're popular or do something I don't believe, I especially try not to say things I don't believe. So to hear you say that, I'm very thankful. There are many videos to come, currently editing my 100th actually! So I hope to see you there, it should be up tomorrow! Again, thank you.
@kritpickproductions Appreciate it a ton! I agree, though, that Possession is a movie that will always be decoded a bit differently. It's one of the most dense and purposefully written movies I've ever seen, and with the passing of Andrzej Żuławski, it'll remain a movie without answers and only observations.
I've listened to four videos of yours so far and definitely stand by what I said before. You have unique tastes, odd opinions, and a great depth of understanding of these movies, which makes these videos a ton of fun and a different speed than most film youtubers. I'm excited to see what you cook up next and hope you have a long and fulfilling endeavor on TH-cam. Thanks again!
To part, a few of my recent favorites have been:
Possession
Cure
Close-Up
Everything Everywhere All at Once
Satantango and The Turin Horse
Portrait of a Lady on Fire
Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters
La Haine
Children of Men
These are just a few personal 10s from the past year or so. If you haven't seen any, I'd definitely recommend them. A ton of criterion, mostly due to ease of access, but yeah, all bang insanely fucking hard. See you soon!
@@CrackBaby3 I have actually seen all of these and they are all fantastic movies! Cure and Mishima are particular favourites of mine...

(Forgive my editing mistake on the Whiplash segment)
The central paradox of filmbro cinema is that they are sophisticatedly visceral movies.
I don't think that's *necessarily* a paradox. I think plenty of stuff can be sophisticated and visceral. I think the reason filmbros like it so much is it activates the same excitement as more approachable, thrilling pictures but in a way they can feel smart about.
@@nancyboucher4014 well I dont believe in these movies and thats enough for me
Good video, man. What you said about American beauty was hilarious.
Just outta curiosity what superheroe films would have on the same tier or above tdk?
Batman Begins, Into the Spider-Verse, The Batman, The Incredibles, Thor Ragnarok, Infinity War, Spider-Man 2, Guardians of the Galaxy (any of them), X2, Unbreakable, Batman Returns, Darkman
And then a few comic book movies, not necessarily "superhero" films: Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Hellboy, Blade, The Crow
Off the top of my head, I would personally say those are better films with the rough genre. Of course a lot of that is subjective and some I'd argue way more than others but yeah, hope this helps.
That’s very fair the one thing I would say that I enjoy tdk for is it feels significantly more grounded than most marvel movies that’s not a hate towards marvel just the style of movie
@@owencampbell4876 I definitely understand that aspect of it, I am for sure a more stylized kind of person when it comes to comic book stuff. Appreciate you watching my man!
@@kritpickproductions absolutely man love to see small channels that are passionate about thing’s definitely gonna watch your stuff when I see it
you're good at articulating and explaining your opinions, and you and i don't seem to have, like, a fundamental difference in what we want out of film as a medium. you don't seem like the type to dismiss a movie without reason, so i'd love to watch a video about why Donnie Darko doesn't work for you/why you think it doesn't work in general
Thank you! I would really love to do a retrospective on Donnie Darko, explaining why it doesn't work but I think it would just come across as hating for hating sake, which I don't love doing. But also it would mean sitting through Donnie Darko again and I reeeaaaallly don't want to do that lmao
Where was the crow? 😔
Prestige is I agree his most underrated movie, and one of the greatest films of all time!!
Great video. Disagreed on a lot, but really liked your thoughts and commentary. Here's my list:
Top 10 Material: Oldboy
Masterpiece: The Social Network, The Godfather, Taxi Driver, Goodfellas, Pulp Fiction, American Psycho, Uncut Gems, Apocalypse Now, 2001
Great: Nightcrawler, Se7en, The Shawshank Redemption, Prisoners, Wolf of Wall Street
Good: Fight Club, Django Unchained, Eternal Sunshine, Whiplash, Scarface, The Dark Knight, La La Land, Joker (I completely understand why people don't like it, but I still enjoy it for what it is)
Alright: Inception, Interstellar, American Beauty, Drive, The Prestige, Blade Runner 2049
Not a fan: The Usual Suspects
Completely understand that, thank you for watching man! Very solid tier list
I actually agree with you on practically every movie
Sorry to hear that man
Generic comment on how this is what I pay my internet bills for..
I appreciate your dedication to paying bills that allowed you to be here
I'm no one's film bro. I love all the stuff that they hate. But putting Blade Runner 2049 as "genuine cinema" and The Usual Suspects as "bad" is a God damn war crime.
To say BR2049's pacing is glacial is being incredible kind.
You have some very crazy takes sir. But that’s what it’s all about more power to you. But godfather is a s tier movie I think you really need to revisit and reevaluate it from a film making perspective
I'm mostly just exaggerating. I don't hate it and I think it's a very well made movie, just not one for me. I'm not heavy into most mafia/mob movies, not entirely my genre, with a few exceptions. So whilst I can totally respect it, it's not something I enjoy too much. Thank you for watching and being respectful too, not overly common on this site 🙏
i agree with most of your tier, some movies maybe slightly higher or lower but nothing major except for some so here's my take on the major ones
1- django unchained - i don't think it's that good i think it's a decent time but for me i think it didn't live up to my expectations but maybe i need to revisit it
2- prisoners - for me is genuine cinema i think it was carried by the performance for me but i did feel the frustration of the character in every scene
3- la la land - was genuine cinema for me but i understand your reasoning behind your placement here
4 joker - is a decent time i think it's still good enjoyable movie but was ruined by the people over hyping it but maybe i am wrong i still liked it though
5- inception - i loved it the first time i saw it but the more i think about it i liked it less and less also didn't like the performances for the most part and i think it was not as visually pleasing for some reason "still think dunkirk is christopher nolan best movie"
6- space odyssey - i disagree with you i think it holds up very well
7 - seven - is actually bad for me the characters are so boring and i think the friendship was forced and rushed for me to care at the end
still i would say that most of those movies are good even great, even if i think that some of them are better than the others i still understand why people would prefer one over the other
english is not my first language so some of my points may not translate well
I can definitely see where you're coming from with all of those, it's all subjective at the end of the day. I appreciate you watching and taking the time to leave a thought out and detailed comment!
I agree with a lot of points on the dark knight
I'm really new to film (both US and foreign) so I've seen very few of these, but I got to say, I agree on most of what I have seen, the only real changes I'd make is swapping American Psycho and Drive, and making Joker "it's fine" even though young me (read: me 6 years ago) would've put it in the top tier ^^'
I don't think Joker is a beat-for-beat copy of Taxi Driver, but I do agree it's not the most original, and it feels like it's actively trying to be a film bro movie, which is just... why? Phoenix is great though, and he saves it tbh.
Completely understandable. If you were to also ask me a few years ago, I would have also put Joker quite high.
However, I'm glad you watched, I appreciate it!
Your pulp fiction take is exactly how I feel I do believe it to be overrated
good video!
Thank you, Riley!
all of these movies should be in actually good except maybe a few
Watching this video, I went through the constant cycle of nodding in agreement and going “WHAT THE HELL MAN” 😂
My favourite on this list would easily be Whiplash, a top 3 movie for me, I adore it and as a creative, artsy person, I did genuinely find it inspiring. Also, Goodfellas and La La Land are movies I adore. I Really should check out some more of these films.
That's definitely where I operate best lol. It's not fun if you always agree haha.
I'm glad you love those films though, they're very well made movies :)
@@kritpickproductions oh yeah I agree, I love seeing disagreements and different opinions (ironic I know XD)
Made a video of how he thinks damsel is better than we think😑 now I know why this list is for the most part ass.
Being a Man United fan I guess you would be the expert on ass, I suppose
I think my least favourite part about filmbros is that they (for the most part) have good taste
And I agree, Uncut Gems is a masterpiece that easily cracks my favourites oat
I agree, yeah. The main problem isn't their selection, it's their attitude towards that selection
Drive above Goodfellas? Like c’mon this is purely just what you enjoy more, that is not better cinema
Since there is no objectivity in art, it is all subjective, my friend. This isn't what I think is the objective truth, this is what I think
Parasite came out before squid game...
I never said it didn't. I said they're both about the same subject matter and are both insanely popular in the western world, attempting to highlight how common that subject matter is in South Korean media. Bong Joon-ho himself having tackled the social divide multiple times himself before Parasite.
Hi, I'm sorry to be a jerk! It's "Denis" Villenueve, not Dennis, and it's pronounced "den" + "ee".
French names aren't real dw
So many movies here are ranked the opposite I would rank them.
No interest in your future content.
The disrespect for Interstellar, bruhhhh
Whiplash, Blade Runner, and Uncut Gems are supposed to be better than Taxi Driver, Godfather, Shawshank, and Goodfellas?
Nah, man.
I agree w the Joker though, that was bad.
