Arran 10 v Balblair 12

- This weeks I’ve got a little dilemma, decided to choose two whiskies that are similar in cask make up, age and price and tasted them side by side in a challenge to see where I would spend my money, this was tougher than I thought but really enjoyed trying to break them both down and decide.

I love comparing whiskies. I'll have to try these two head to head and see how it goes. I'm encouraged to see US prices better approximating UK prices. I can get each of the bottles for right at $50US. Fantastic value for either whisky.
Decent comparison, Kevin and you mention (imo) the most important thing that often is overlooked: "today I prefer ..."
And with drams that are close in comparison that often makes the difference.

Exactly! It’s that moment in time and where your tastebuds and feelings are. Yesterday they just went towards Balblair but if I done this again it could change for sure. I enjoyed doing the comparison as before I did think Arran would tip it.
Let’s see what i prefer next week.

Interesting head-to-head, Kev. I like them both too. Arran 10 has a wee sharp thing at the end of it (don't know how to describe it yet - I'm a newbie). The Balblair is one I'm enjoying at the moment and really liking. I've also had drams of the BB15 which was another step up. Helpful video for me. :)

Great comparison review Kevin. Roy mentioned this week he got some different flavors after trying a whisky right after another one, including a flavor he hadn't experienced before with that particular whisky. Also wanted to say that Balblair bottle looks bigger (travel retail size?). Cheers!
Yep, when Kevin puts the two bottles side by side you can see it states on the Balblair bottle, 1 litre.👍👍
I was planning to choose one of them next week glad to see the comparison. I care about viscosity so which has thicker - creamier mouthfeel?
I personally feel the Arran has that but more mouthfeel to it. The viscosity I find is more on the Arran than the Balblair. Both are great whiskies but my honest opinion would be the Arran.
I’ve not had a dram of either in a while and you’ve given me the idea to look them back out and have a dram again. Slainte buddy
Nice one. Not tried a balblair yet so it’s now on the radar.
Really enjoyed my first dram of balablair late last year and I’ve always enjoyed Arran. The 12 for the price is brilliant.
