The simplicity and grace of the music, especially of what comes up at around 4'30", is completely overwhelming. How is it possible to come up on the fly with something that is both as simple and magic and natural as that ? That's what I call genius.

I love Jarrett's playing; he's my favorite musician, and I'm a drummer. This particular piece just seems to be one of the most peaceful pieces of music I've ever heard. I can play it over & over again.

I love how he was clearly going to ad a finishing chord on the end and the audience unconsciously told him not to. True improvisation there, with the audience an integral part.

The audience was an integral part of changing his song and cutting it short. That’s the reason he balked and remained seated without bowing to them after they rudely & prematurely cut his ending off. Clearly not true Keith fans. Anyone who knows KJ knows it ain’t over til it’s over. Sad.

Keith Jarrett is probably the most influential jazz pianist living today: his concerts have made him world famous. He was a child prodigy who had his first solo performance at the age of seven. In the sixties he played with the Jazz Messengers and then with the Charles Lloyd Quartet, touring Europe, Asia, and Russia. He played electric keyboards with Miles Davis at the beginning of the seventies, and went on to lead two different jazz groups-one American and one European.

  • @11jupitercowboy8

I think all he was gonna do was hit one last chord, but he took the cue from the audience to let that be the end of it. I think maybe the audience was right, honestly. Improvisation, especially for Keith I think is as much an interaction with what's outside as what's inside.

Allan Maulana I think when improvising the ending is always difficult. He had a good one and it would just have become longer, not better. No more new music to come. Then a creak occured so he left it as it was. Just a decision you always weigh when coming to an end with your music.

@TheDemonicPenguin I'm going to say I slightly disagree with this opinion. I think it was an incredibly introversive improvisation, and the audience were merely spectators this time. I don't think they should have "interfered" with the ending, seeing as he clearly wasn't finished yet. The thing that made it beautiful was how personal it was, and in this particular expression I don't think there should have been any audience involvement at all.

@bazzatt1 I do accept your oppinion. But I see that he's an extraordinary person - so I do accept as well that there are some odd behaviors. I saw him in Berlin and was really touched because I could feel nearly physically, how much his creativity depends on the "secret"interaction with audience. I was angry about every noise disturbing this and understood immediately his reaction. Playing he is like an open wound.

efectivamente, cuando no hace boludeces es un magnífico músico, pero sin llegar a ser un poeta, como bill evans. no comparo, los dos fueron agraciados por las musas. esta improvisación es hermosa, porque toca con humildad, de la que por lo general carece.
