Apparently Replacing a heater core these days is no longer a half hour stick your head under the dashboard job. 🤔

I can't thank you enough for this excellent tutorial series. I have the same model (and color) as you, and I too had difficulty finding instructions on this specific to the '04. I bypassed my leaking core in the spring and put the project off for months knowing how big a job it is. I knew what needed to be done, but didn't know how everything comes apart and in what order, as well as where all the hidden fasteners are. I searched TH-cam relentlessly and found nothing. I finally gave up and bought the parts and figured I'd wing my way through it knowing it would take twice as long. As luck would have it, I found your videos the night before I was to start and I watched them all several times. Feeling much more confident, I breezed through the job like a champ. You saved me a ton of time and frustration and I really appreciate that. I would have gone insane trying to find that hidden nut behind the transmission dipstick tube, but knowing it was there was a big help and I even found an easy way to get to it. I removed the fender well liner also but left the wheel on. If you remove the plastic wing nut (your pointer is touching it at 4:05) you can fold the insulation back and you have a straight shot in with an 11mm combination wrench. It's amazing how much difference having that 1/4" thick insulation out of the way made.

Thanks so much for this. So frustrating because the heater cores freeze so easily and in old days I replaced them from the engine compartment. I could not find a mechanic willing to mess with it.
Mine is 2004 Dakota 3.7. A couple of tips:
1- that last nut (minute 4) might be done from above if you can find it. Note it is not visible so just feel for it. It is behind the valve cover/head passenger side.
2- I wasted time thinking I might beat Dodge by not totally removing the HVAC box, that I could undo the top and access the heat core. Dodge won. You must totally remove the box because many screws on the rear.
3- I also took apart too much of the dashboard. Might even leave the glove box in. Just do enough to roll it forward. That part Dodge did right with the pivot bolts

if you take the seats out the steering wheel doesn't have to be removed it just lays on the floor the dash can be moved out of the way on the heater side to give you access

Oh yeah 7 to 900 hours they change that very expensive engineering put that in a bad place next time when you get to - all loose and broke down don't take it out ratchet strap it to the handles or where the handles side handles where at is but an eye bolt hole that matches the same syringe is the mounting hole for the strap handles ratchet strap it up there and then just take the heater box out drop the steering wheel to the front driver seat is all you got to do. Have to remove it just drop it straight now but other than that everything else is right and you forgot when you get the heater box out the most important thing how do you get to heater core out of there on a side of the Box you must take out the round cylinder first

Outstanding video! Looks like I may be facing an evaporator core replacement, and this will save me over $1500. It would have been a major pain winging this myself. Thanks!

Trying to figure out why my A/C freezes up, the condenser seems to run and not shut off. So I came across this video while trying to see what was all involved in the whole system.
After seeing this, I would probably get rid of the truck if I had to do this much. 😆
I give you credit for taking this on.

Phenomenal instructions! Putting mine back together tomorrow. Ran out of daylight and warm temps tonight. I was by myself so I only completely removed passenger side dashboard. Swing it into passenger seat and box can come out without unplug fuse block

Thanx for the video. I doing my research now as my 2000 dakota sport needs this process before fall.
