I shared your link of Barbosa's scherzo 1 with my pianist friend - and he agreed with me that it was the best that he had ever heard, too. (we both love that piece and we liked Rubenstein's recording when we were in college and later i thought Horowitz was unsurpassable). It's the controlled power, nuanced perfection, and rich tone that makes Barbosa's Chopin so unique. He captures all the poetical aspects of the music and makes it completely understandable . I heard Barbosa play 4 All-Chopin recitals on 4 consecutive Sundays at the Hunter College Playhouse here in NYC. Just fabulous.
