- Botswana is home to more African elephants than anywhere else in the world. Every year, thousands of elephants trek over 7,000 miles in search of food and life-giving water. The desert is a hostile place, especially as the dry season takes hold, so the elephants must use their strength and wit to survive.

Despite the comments below, I love the narrator. He's working with the script he's been given in the manner that the director wishes it to be read. His voice is clear, concise and I do not find it in any way derogatory to the elephants.

I have seen quite a few elephant documentaries ever since I found out about my husband's obsession with elephants. This Nat Geo is hands-down the coolest best documentary I have seen thus far. Ever. Kudos to Nat Geo keep doing what you're doing cuz you're the best
Human kind need to take notes from elephant’s families! If half of us had these kind of families, this world would have no problem. This was such a beautiful documentary.

Also, this shows how important the water for all life.. and here we are humans.. wasting it on daily basis
The question is not how much we waste but how much we contaminate/pollute with fracking, the Hanford nuclear waste site in Washington, and corporate chemical dumping.

An elephant in a zoo trapped my little brother behind its ear one time, and I just sat there talking to it for about 30 minutes, and it let him go. After it did, it caressed my face with its trunk.
(Understandable, elephants don't really belong here in Canada. I would've been annoyed too.)

I love how they can communicate for miles with their low pitch rumbles . Everything about elephants amazes me . They’re affection for one another, if a baby elephant loses it’s mother, the herd continues to care for it . And how they all mourn their deceased. They’re so intelligent, and their behavior is so close to human behavior. Beautiful majestic animals. We need to stop ivory poacher for good . 🙏🏻💜💙 🐘

A moving documentary; learned so much about elephants, the trade-offs they face and their "humanity" . The herd must keep moving forward at a steady pace, however the babies can't keep up thus becoming vulnerable. The matriarch must strike a balance to both maintain a good speed and ensure the safety of the younglings. Moving to the next water source quickly is so important and yet they give enough time to the baby to grieve for its mother. A water source is of utmost importance but also a source of danger. A good night's rest is essential to carry on the next day but that again makes the herd vulnerable. The same tightly knit herd starts infighting once water becomes scarce.
I suppose the natural bias we all feel towards elephants in all the conflicts is because they are herbivorous and don't ever initiate an attack. Also, the are not vengeful and stop pursuit as soon as the lions give up.
I feel bad as their lives must be getting harder and harder with increasing temperatures due to global harming. Really hope these majestic creatures can survive this danger and we can bring global warming under control before it's too late for them.

Since your comment was posted 120.000 or more African Elephant have been killed by poaching thats the equivalent to nearly all the Elephants in this area featured in this film.
One of the greatest documentaries on the African Elephants' lives.... The script misses what other animals are lions' favorites apart from elephants as in Botswana... In Tanzania, cases of lions hunting elephants are very rare....
