When I was a child living in Isiolo, Kenya, I witnessed an elephant burial. The elephant had been shot by a game warder as it was causing problems at the edge of the forest. Early in the morning there was a horrendous roar from the herd of elephants as they gathered around their dead mate. They then tore down the surrounding bush and each elephant dutifully covered the dead elephant. When this was done, they retreated with a final cry. What an amazing sight!

The true understanding about elephants has never really been totally realized up until present years. Humans have finally realized how absolutely incredible the elephant community truly is. We are just now discovering how truly special they are. Their ability to communicate with each other over miles of distances. Its remarkable to say the least. And they honestly love and grieve over the loss of another. What an injustice they have been made to suffer at the hands of humans. Its time to protect their lives and allow them to exist in our world with out harm. 🧐😢😉❤️

@@maayan1832 Honestly if they had called the elephant orphan wildlife trust, and showed us a glimpse into that, it would have taught us way more info on how to protect them. Sheldrick, in Kenya, does an amazing job at rescuing and raising elephant orphans, and eventually returning them to wild. Elephants are an endangered species thanks to us; we don't need to let them young ones die for the sake of 'education'; we can most definitely afford to help as many lives as possible, as we've taken many already.

They can recognize and remember individual people. There was a poacher who k*lled a young elephant in Africa somewhere, and his Mother hunted him down and k*lled him. This is a very enjoyable doc and while watching I was reminded of an amazing documentary I saw years ago about a group of elephants who made an epic journey to a cave that was a source of salt for them. They were able to film the elephants with night vision cameras as they went deep inside the cave, guided by their matriarch, and used their tusks to scrape the sides of the cave which was rich in salts. Then then used their trunks to scoop mouthfuls. IN the pitch black darkness! I dont remember where it was but I sure would love to see it again! I believe I watched that in the 80's before I had any means to record it myself. I would love to know more about that now. Has anyone else ever seen or heard of it?

humans learned from social animals, esp. the matriarchal ones
early pictographs and ideographs incorporated african animals to create & transmit symbols & signals of power before we acquired universality in language. bees, crocodiles, hawks, hippos
thus a roaring lion symbolized power, kingly, queenly,
fire symbolized force, heat, solar energy & force
for thousands of years before we got actual words for these things, we used them as symbols in cave drawings, etc.

I would like a documentary focused on the bull herds as well! I love to follow and learn from the female groups, but the perspective of a bull herd and what they do must be super interesting as well. I hope filmmakers and biologists make one someday!

Lions are living in a swamp in northern Africa! Those Lioness can show these lions how to live in water! It will happen! The only elephants the African children will see are in the books, if not careful!

@@b-man1232 Yes- they could have called the elephant orphan wildlife trust.

The thing all Elephants and many other creatures have is Instinctive wisdom as part of their natural makeup. Proof of Intelligent design.

for the first two billion years the only hormones in the primordial mass were the female types. we evolved right along
gonads and such emerged within the last half billion years probably with sea horses. also the design of male genitalia in most life forms is not that intelligent for it is badly situated and very fragile
