Ed was a genuinely nice man. He was kind to his fans and answered fan mail. He would write personal notes answering questions etc from fans and sign photos with a personalized note and not just a signature. To me that says a lot about how generous and appreciative he was toward his fans.
I’ve still kept my autograph from Ed Asner because he put few months before he died “ I can’t wait to see you act” as I told him that I’m hoping to become an actor. What an amazing fantastic guy, absolutely will miss him playing old man in UP

ed asner was a huge advocate for the autism community. the ed asner center in los angeles is ran by his son matt and his wife naevah. there is a camp they run called camp ed, it was started in 2018 to start a summer camp for her 3 sons on the autism spectrum. ed did a poker tournament every year for the center,r names like rosie o'donnell and jack black have played in it in the past. ed has 1 autistic son and 3 autistic grandsons. he did a lot for the autism community. i just thought i'd tell you this steve. your viewer , parker
I can see why Asner wanted to do a cameo on Modern Family. Eric Stonestreet is from Kansas City too. (I live in Kansas City.) Eric Stonestreet comes back to KC frequently along with other famous actors from here (Paul Rudd and Jason Sudeikis.) They're all friends and hang out together. The local media makes a big deal whenever they return to Kansas City.
Met him in 2018 in Santa Monica,CA He came in to a restaurant I was working at at the time. He let me even take a picture with him. May he rest in peace.
Undoubtedly MTM was one of the great sitcoms of all-time. The writing was excellent--and what a fabulous cast! It deservedly has its place as a beloved TV program. I'm a pretty tough character, but I always get emotional at the end of the last episode--just like I did at age 13 when it first aired.
LOVED ED ASNER!! Funny that he was a Jewish man, but he was beloved as Santa Claus in so many Christmas movies. Lou Grant, of course, will be probably his most famous role, but he did so very much more. Such a gifted actor, an intelligent and compassionate human being, and just so loved. If you haven't seen his movie, The Gathering, it was wonderful. His work will certainly live on, but the man himself will be missed. Thanks for visiting Ed's resting place, Steve.
Loved him as Lou Grant, he and Ted Knight were my favorites on the show. I find it interesting that some of the most famous people in the end, chose to rest either alone in a very simple setting or with what also truly matters, with family. Some best examples of this are Richard Burton and Audrey Hepburn, both are buried in very beautiful but simple settings in Switzerland.

Richard Burton became sick of Hollywood and the many flakes and chose a small town in Switzerland that reminded him of his boyhood home in Wales. As for Audrey she lived in Switzerland and used her fame to help so many, mostly children in Africa, she was an incredible person!
There are a few people, Michael Jackson, Andy Griffith and a few others come to mind that chose to be buried in privacy....but I would say that 99.9% of all people who choose to be buried are in just a normal cemetery

I didn't watch 'The Mary Tyler Moore Show' but I did watch 'Lou Grant.' I also remember him playing a bad guy in one of my favorite John Wayne movies - 'El Dorado.'
We were walking by a broadway theater in 2009 and Asner was signing autographs. I asked him to take a pic with me and he did . That really says allot about him . A very gracious man .

I love Ed Asner, I was so thrilled to have met him in Walnut Creek,CA. He was visitingSusan Prather, who helped the homeless get back on their feet, giving them jobs. I volunteered there, and he was so kind. He was a treasure..

Not many know this, but on the animated Justice League series he was the voice of Granny Goodness, one of the supervillain Darkseid’s main minions. This man brought a lot of joy to a lot of people. RIP.

My main memory of Ed Asner was somewhat indirect, but still more important. I am on the board of directors for a non profit company called Aspiritech, which employs autistic people in a variety of occupations, but mostly in the field of software testing. Ed was on the board of advisors from even before I joined the board, which meant back in the company's infancy. I personally had no contact with him, but he was instrumental in getting us to an autism conference in Milwaukee many years ago, and his son was there. Some people (again, not me) met the son, who I believe did a presentation. You may note I said "autistic people", rather than "people with autism". Autistic self advocates prefer the first usage, ie, autistic people because they view autism as part of them rather than something they have. One other note about Ed Asner. I can't think of any other example where one show spun off from another and then became a completely different genre. The Mary Tyler Moore show was a sitcom, whereas Lou Grant was a drama, the genre Asner was most associated with. I can't imagine that to be an easy thing, and Ed Asner is to be commended for pulling it off and keeping Lou Grant on the air for as long as he did.
You do such a nice job in showing the grave sites and helping us remember our past with a smile. We lived in such a great time in life. The TV shows were "the best" and life was great! Humor was great, clean, fun, and so was fashion. I am so glad that I grew up in the '60s and '70s. Life's pace was slower, safer, and just a lot better than it is now. I feel sad for the children of today's world!
I first saw him in Lou Grant as the newspaper editor. His generous and humorous character really shone out, he was such a likeable and charismatic guy.

At the beginning of 2021, 4 regular cast members of the MTM Show were still with us. Cloris Leachman, Gavin MacLeod, Ed Asner, and of course Betty White (on New Year's Eve) all passed away in 2021. Wonder if there's ever been another series where so many of the main cast all died in one calendar year, with the last being the last surviving cast member? In addition to MTM Show, Betty White was also the last surviving Golden Girl, despite having been the oldest cast member of that show!
I've thought about that a lot - how they all died the same year. And remember when Valerie Harper was diagnosed with that rare cancer and was expected to pass very quickly? She ended up surviving and living several more years even outliving Mary Tyler Moore. Hard to believe they are all gone - except for John Amos. But his character Gordy was not really part of the core cast.

I was priviliged to see him in his one man show, FDR, that he performed on the stage at Wyandotte back in 2013. That was a wonderful show and I was so sad to hear of his passing. Ed Asner was my graduation speaker at Boston's Northeastern University in 1989. His daughter Liza was in my graduating class. When he stepped on to the podium, people started screaming "LOUUUUUUU"!!! It sounded like he was being booed. He was told by our university president that was not the case. Folks were honored.

@@david5704 John Gabriel was the first choice to play "The Professor" on Gilligan's Island. For some reason some original castings were changed giving the world the famous cast we know today.
Thank you Steve for sharing this vlog on Ed Anser' S gravesite. I had surgery last month and I was off work for 3 weeks. I watched all the seasons of the Mary Tyler Moore show. I so want Mary's apartment. Ed Anser appeared on Grace and Frankie a few times.

Thanks for visiting......I'm from Kansas City and went to Wyandotte High School, same as Mr. Asner. I was priviliged to see him in his one man show, FDR, that he performed on the stage at Wyandotte back in 2013. That was a wonderful show and I was so sad to hear of his passing. I've been to his grave a couple of times. thanks

Ed Asner was my graduation speaker at Boston's Northeastern University in 1989. His daughter Liza was in my graduating class. When he stepped on to the podium, people started screaming "LOUUUUUUU"!!! It sounded like he was being booed. He was told by our university president that was not the case. Folks were honored.
