You can get knocked out of the second and third stages of the ash if you are hit before the spear starts moving.

Good shout, but then it’s harder to pull random boluses out of your inventory. Unless, I guess, you put them all in the slots. Recent items tab is a mixed blessing.
@@kiltysalter2966 Boluses should be in the 4 quick slots mainly bleed and frost. In the main 10 slots i got red flask, blue flask, wondrous physick, grease, pickled turtle neck dlc, boiled crab, fan daggers, hefty pot, frost pot, sleep pot. In the 4 quick slots, I go right bleed bolus, left frost bolus, down uplifting aromatic, and up is either sleep bolus or exalted flesh. The 2 other quick slots would be exalted flesh/sleep bolus and lantern. Recent item tabs, the phantom finger is always the first item because it will keep spawning in your inventory every invasion.

@ I make red flask the up pouch, first equipment slot is blue. I’ve got a pro controller so I can set up so that the up flask combo can be done by pressing O + triangle together. Way quicker than waiting for the menu hold hotkey. But I tend to switch things around based on the type of build too.
Fwiw, a fun way to make a Malenia build work is to have the Hand in the main hand, and then to have Dane’s Footwork in the offhand… because it simulates her often-used kick.
You might already know this but the third stage of Messmers assault can’t be blocked because it comes from the floor, making it an effective counter to most shields
It sucks that Messmer's Assault is currently bugged. The initial spin that staggers but does no damage is actually supposed to do around a CR1 amount of damage. It was in the review copy of the DLC and you can also see it when you use messmer's assault without any FP, the initial spin does damage. It usually does around 1k damage but with the initial spin actually working it could be 1300+ damage. They also nerfed the throw after the review copy, it had no damage falloff and half the stamina consumption.

Yea, greatspears have some pretty good hyper-armor poise. I know from experience that it is absolutely devious, but I nonetheless completely recommend tossing "Waves of Darkness" on a Messmer Soldier Spear. It's diabolical, and you can typically tank pretty well even at REALLY low poise. Could lure people in to charge by dressing up as a wizard, and then shock them by actually being melee. I have an Arcane build who still demolishes with a Cold Messmer Soldier Spear using that. Like, I'm not even **optimized** and it shreks people.
Dung Eater might be an interesting one to add to the list. His Build is well-rounded and even includes the Bairn Item. Ranni could be fun too, I think Zamor Ice Storm (the Sorcery) is underrated. Putrescent Knight would add variety, go naked and blueish like the Boss, full Light Roll Build. Miquella would be funny, reverse it by going Taunter's Tongue and making the Invaders battle NPCs that you charm with Bewitching Branch.
i dont know about you guys, but my favorite part of the mesmer boss battle was when he ran to put a shirt on that has a tree growing out of and chugged a health potion. a really inspired mechanic for sure
