- The plaintiff traded his expensive watch for the defendant’s car. He went to register the car but was told he couldn’t because there was a problem with the title. He says the defendant won’t give the watch back, so he’s suing. The defendant says he signed the title in the wrong place and he agreed to go to the DMV to fix it, but the plaintiff got impatient.

He gave it away, to his brother. That's really sweet. He's a good guy. The other one doesn't agree with (her interpretation of) the law. He doesn't agree with getting a properly fit jacket either. Lack of (fashion) sense "is what it is".

Initially, I thought this was going to be a cut & dry case for the Plaintiff, because the defendant should have had that title transferred before attempting to sell it.
But the Plaintiff agreed to work it out & then reneged, unjustifiably. And Judge Milian's interpretation of the law was correct & this cheapskate plaintiff should shop for a suit that fits. It might give him a better chance at getting a job. 😉

Googled the watch and depending on the exact model, it's a nice watch. Agree with the defendant at the end, that is NOT a $7k watch used. Maybe it was brand new, I don't know. Converted from my countries currency to USD the defendant is correct, it's a $3-5k watch again depending on the model in today's dollars. Back when this was filmed it most likely was a $3k watch so the plaintiff came out ahead if that vehicle was indeed worth $5k.

You did research to confirm what the plaintiff stated at the outset of the case? Regarding the jacket, the plaintiff may have gained a little weight, but the suit itself is really nice.

I totally disagree with the judge. The defendant did what many people do. They buy a car, don't title or register it in their name to save on paying sales tax, and then sell it to the next person with the original owner's name on it. The defendant sold that car under false pretenses, because technically, he didn't own the car. When you buy a car, you should be able to get that title notarized at the time of sale, and go right down to the DMV and get a new title and registration. You shouldn't have to jump through hoops to get that done.p
Well that’s why you shouldn’t have middlemen when buying a car or anything else for that matter. He agreed to it even after the fact and defendant made good on the agreement. The distance between the states and government offices caused the extended delay, but plaintiff still moved forward.

@@billmoran3219 The defendant wasn't a middle man, he purported to own the vehicle, but it wasn't titled or registered in the defendant's name. It's a way to avoid state sales tax and the fees associated with titling and registering the vehicle. It's like buying a house from someone andcthen you find out it's not in his name, it was in his mother's name and the estate is still in probate. Many people don't know a damned thing about legalities. Before you give over any money, you go together to a notary public and he verifies that it was signed over in his presence. Any notary public would never notarize a document that wasn't in the seller's name.

The reason he did not register the car was due to the fact he wanted to not pay the taxes. He’s jumping titles! Finally got the title Oct 10 ! Sold the car in July 1. The judgement on this one I don’t agree with. Don’t wait, no title no money.
