No way, this is literally what made me pause the video and start working on a clip for my social media, lmao. Then I scroll down and it's the first thing commented on. May be your top quote now, Nick lmfaooo fucking BRUTAL.
Punctuation is important. I read your comment quote before he said it. I read it as "My Sonic-taught, Mario-Fear." Instead of: "My Sonic, taught Mario Fear."
Nick could talk about how paint dries for thirty minutes and I would be here. And it's exhilarating to hear such an insightful review dig into every aspect of the game.
And now Mario's the one rolling into a ball, standing next to real live humans, and becoming a super saiyan kitty with all the buttrock to go with it. If anything, it is HE who's teaching SONIC fear.
It was always a game of that when the two companies were going head to head; always trying to outdo one another. The FEAR of being outdone and shadowed, yesterday's news, gone tomorrow. That was them during the Console Wars. Soon as SEGA retired from Consoles-- Nintendo became a cranky old man who doesn't like change and is scared of their own shadow to the point they will blow it up when it comes to anything legal. Let's not forget reinventing the wheel for the millionth time. SEGA became a chill old dude but way too chill where it's relying on others to port/make games and any game they do make is like how Tails builds things in Sonic Lost World; questionable to "how the fuck is this even working?" Ether that, or they will copy the fad of current time to a T then spin off it and make it their own.
I swear the opening moments of Mario Odyssey's trailer were absolutely made to evoke Sonic Adventure 1's intro scene. For just a moment, I actually thought it was going to be the long-rumored Adventure remake, but until Mario leapt into view. XD
So Nintendo basically became Cranky Kong, while Sega literally became synonym with Sonic, a weird mixture of chillness and laziness .. And assholishness.

10:36 It actually hit me a second ago, Nick was correct. When Sonic called Robotnik, "Robuttnik" in the adventures of STH cartoon; the amount of booty I have seen from that man in that show specifically is ungodly.

As a fan of the often overlooked NDS game definitely looking forward to the next part of this Sonic Colors video... Although quick sidenote I do really hope that stuff other than Sonic gets covered, as a SEGA fan there's definitely more to cover there and I would love to see a Streets of Rage or Ristar or Vectorman video sometime, and maybe even a Mario video
I've never been able to quite articulate my feelings on Sonic Colors, but I think you managed to cover every issue I have with it and pin down exactly what it's core problem is. So thank you for giving me the words to properly describe how this game makes me feel, and why I've never really cared for it, even when it was new.
Holy shit. Even though this is just part 1, you've already done it. You've managed to put into words my exact feelings and opinions towards this game. This is what I've always been trying to say when I talk about Colours. I'm so glad there are other people who can see this game for what it is, rather than the swaths of others who only looked for what they wanted to see in it. I am thoroughly looking forward to the review of the DS version, even if I probably know what you're going to say.
43:00 Nick, I got into Sonic due to Sonic X . But, learning about the console wars and Sega’s leave from the console market made me understand where your coming from . Sonic being Mario’s Rival is a great thing that I think many people take for granted. Also, it can be a burden on us when we don’t see that happen. I only saw Sonic as a something that something special to me. I really just wanted to see Sonic on awesome adventures being himself. Now , that I’m older and play the Genesis and Dreamcast games. I really do wish to see that creativity and strive to do something different. Mario is something that all games should strive for in quality. Sonic should be his own thing, and regardless if it is a game of the year . I want it something that makes you feel good about it and a overall great package. Is it wrong to have high expectations? No, we possibly would not sent people to the moon without it. What I’m trying to get at is it’s fine to shoot for the stars but , we can’t forget what makes us special. Also, we can’t get mad that it ruins our day . Let’s be calm and open minded that hopefully they will get it right someday.
I see that you brought your usual passion to the table sir. The whole part about sonic teaching Mario fear gave me chills and I agree completely. Great work
I really loved what you said about the Sonic franchise near the end. In my eyes, Sonic was never meant to copy Mario, and Sonic Colors represents everything the the Sonic franchise was against, and the fact that Colors Ultimate was released in the state it was in only shows that it's time for the meta era to end and get back to what made Sonic great, critics be damned.
Critics be damned indeed. They gave all of this a free pass while making their typical snide remarks about 06. But yeah, I want Sonic to stop holding itself back, and the only way to do that...is to cut the dead weight pulling it down.
Exactly sonic needs to be his own thing like literally they made home become a worse version of Mario say what you want about the 2000 era off sonic but the boom era will always be the dark age and what made sonic collapse
@Omen Rocks_123 Sonic died when Colours was born... (◑ ︿ ◐) And when Generations arrived, Sonic came back... just like Goku for 24 hours in the Buu Saga.
@@The_UltimateL1feform Sonic collapsed when the SEGA Saturn was successful in Japan and SEGA decided that it didn't need Sonic in order to success (and they were right) Then Sonic Adventure happened... It was pretty decent, but definitely a rough transition into 3D that could've been a lot better, and it was also the beginning of many of the serious problems that plague the meta era (way too many bottomless pits, too much spectacle and little substance, level design too linear, etc) Boom is far from being the thing that destroyed the franchise
well worth the wait! there's already so much nuance to this perspective and it even put into words some of my thoughts on Colors as well. part 2 cant come soon enough!
Sonic Colors (Wii), a game that pretty much said "Can I copy your homework" to *2D Mario* and didn't take the correct things that make 2D Mario a blast to play. By the way, that Lakitu comparison isn't undeserved. The first stage those wannabe metallic copies appear in (Tropical Resort Act 4) has a developer note in the files for Colors which straight up calls them "Jugemu" which is the Japanese name for Lakitus. The Cutting Room Floor has an entire page dedicated to the cut content for Sonic Colors (Wii) so if you're curious about the original ideas for the levels check out the page. I've copied the info from there too many times to repeat myself about the original level structure in Sonic Colors (Wii).
I loved how Game Apologist just snowballed a joke so hard it turned funny. "Sonic looks like a hobo screaming at traffic on a freeway. What are you doing Sonic?" "I'll tell you what's broken, Tails it's the system!" But seriously, I'm glad you analyzed this game and even understood the core "problem" with it: it had potential, but half of it was squandered on making it a kids game... Now I understand why people hate the wisps so much: they're literal powers that had trapped behind aliens with a limited timer.... Also, I'm dying throughout this episode with laughter. "Picky Nick's Nitty Picks" is my favorite line from this entire channel. 😂 Also also, that comparison between Mario Galaxy's title music and Sonic Colors was pretty funny to see, but that comparison between Sonic Colors and A FREAKIN OLD GAME OF MARIO made me literally cry out, "WHY?! WHAT ARE YOU DOING SONIC?! YOU HAVE BECOME THE VERY THING YOU SWORE TO AVOID"
Not a huge Sonic fan, but I absolutely loved Adventure 2, Unleashed (PS2 version and PS3 version). Enjoyed Sonic CD. Saw a lot of good and potential in buried in 06. And liked parts of Shadow. I was excited to play Colours when I got it and... I stopped playing after a few hours and never picked it up again. Never knew why it didn't grab me despite how many people love it until I saw this video. Well said.
Sadly, a lot of the praise Colors received upon release simply stems from the fact that there's no mechs or Werehog in the game. And it's valid to say they should focus on the core gameplay rather than add more variety, but somehow even the core gameplay doesn't feel as good here. Colors is a solid game but at the same time, a huge chunk of the acclaims comes from the things it doesn't do rather than the things it actually does, and after 10 years well, the things it actually does matter a lot more.
@Games I played all Ds games back to back these days (trying to get S ranks in all stages of these 3 games) and stand strong that Colors Ds has the better level design of them all. Give it a try!
That section with the Mario comparisons in Colours just made me laugh. I didn't even realise how similar so many aspects of it were to Mario, the P Switch and Blue Cube one got me bad.
Oh yeah! I've been waiting for this review like forever (especially when you said that this review will be 90 minutes long)! I've heard a lot of mixed things about Sonic Colors, although I still want to play this game to see how I feel about it. This review is amazing! I love how you actually break down the pros and cons of this game and go into detail about the mechanics of the game, as well as the story. I can't wait to watch the second part of your video!
That whole rant on 33:23 just adds on to my contempt for the Colors Era. The rant on 43:00 is literally the best thing I've heard to come out of a Sonic fan's mouth all year.
I never understood the argument that “Sonic colors comedy is meant for children.” I’m 21 years old, and I think the game’s comedy is beyond cringy. But, even as a kid, I felt exactly the same. I was ten when I played colors back on the wii. got it on release day. I had JUST turned 10 as well. I was, what I imagine to be, Sonic Colors target demographic. And I still felt like the game’s comedy just wasn’t good. It never was.
@Sonic I agree. I didn't pay much mind to it as a kid, but now the humor is just something I roll my eyes at or outright ignore... Not sure if I would call it Teen Titans Go level tho (seriously, I can't stand that show at all)
@@dmann2116 Teen Titans Go is even funnier than this. You just have to find the few episodes that "show continuity", like the ones that bring in other old characters (that you'd have to have seen the old show to know, again, making no sense) and the like. When the show steps away from the ADHD toilet humor, it's tolerable to funny. Like, I would recommend the TTGo to the Movies movie. Because the main fart jokes are just at the beginning to grab your kids attention, and aside from the basic flanderization of the main cast that comes with the universe, it's pretty entertaining, and I really did enjoy how they fit in Slade in an even younger demographic.
@@amandaslough125 It's no for me though. I think the show does have a few moments where it's actually good, but the damage it did early on was just too much. I honestly couldn't care foe the show at this point in time
MY GOD YOU UNDERSTAND ME! For the longest time I couldn't figure out why I didn't like necessarily like Colors. Everyone loved it, I felt like I was the only person that disliked Colors, I always thought the Adventure games, Heroes, and Unleashed (day stages) were better. All I had for reasoning was I don't know it's too 2d? Is it the platforming and puzzle solving. You managed to explain it and put it into words and your words are note for note words that I agree with but couldn't think of on my own. Colors has potential, and it is built on this and I like Generations for the most part because they do fix it up. That's also why I don't flat out rag on 06, I see the potential, it could've been a good game, the difference was 06 everyone agreed was bad, while everyone but me thought Colors was good. Colors was ok I just got bored, much like I do with a lot of modern Mario games, the only games I really play anymore are 1-3 and World, I replayed Galaxy last year and it's been years since I played it, so I did have fun, but I didn't like Odyssey. Mario Wii, Wii U, 3d Land, and while I initially loved New Mario and New Mario 2 on the ds and 3ds trying to replay them and those others feels like a slog and boring. Colors is like a bad Mario or Pokemon (before Let's Go PE, Sword and Shield) game, the worst they could do is meh, boring, 5/10, ok but not good or bad, and that's what I get from Colors. It has clever ideas that could go places, but Sega seems afraid to do anything after the initial game, never building on what went right or wrong. That's what also separate Sonic from other franchises back in the day, the sequels were always better, because they learned from all their problems, 1st ones are ok or good, but sequels are even better. The last sequel we had to a Sonic games were the Rush games and storybooks, I never played the Rushes and the story books are spin offs, and while yeah Black Knight is a definite improvement on Secret Rings, it still missed, as a result the story book trilogy never finished, the 3rd game getting canceled. Sonic 2, 3 (I'd even say CD), Adventure 2, Advance 2 and 3, and now Mania are all some of the best Sonic games in this franchise, some of them being labeled by most fans as the best in the case of 2, 3, and Adventure 2. Yet Sega seems to have forgotten about sequels, and using that to build on concepts that were already beloved. I even heard that Mania 2 isn't happening, and it's because Sega didn't like Christian Whitehead's ideas for a sequel, some big argument, so Christian's company is working on some other project and sadly we may never get a Mania 2.
I always disliked Colors for those exact reasons, and I knew how to put it into words, but everyone hated me for that, so I simply stopped saying what I think about Colors (And I've seen a lot of people talking about youtubers that dislike Colors and how they actually aren't Sonic fans and their channels are only negativity, like Premmy and Twip for example) For some reason this game gathered a part of the fandom with insane toxic positivity, and I think Nick knows it, as in this video, he tried to make as clear as possible that "Colors isn't a bad game", even with all of those negative points
@@leaonidasgames4277 Yeah, Colors has definitely received special treatment and coddling from the gaming community compared to almost every other Sonic game. And when fans began to become more vocal on why they don't like this game, and why they don't think it's the direction this series should take anymore. You see people claiming "Owh! Everyone's unfairly turning on this game just like they did with Sonic Adventure 2". Like...WHAT?! Are you kidding me?! I wish everyone would turn on this game like they did with SA2. But no, it's just fans stating why they don't like this game. Compared to SA2, which had the entire gaming community & industry at large turn on it, thanks to influential youtubers with millions of subscribers combined with the Sonic series lack of credibility making it easy to lie and exaggerate. Man Adventure fans had to fight tooth and nail to let people know those games are actually good. Colors fans have game reviewers and gaming youtubers on their side. Like if they want to discuss with us why they like Colors and think it's good. I'll try hear them out. But it's impossible when they can't even be honest about this being a 2D game.
Nick, this turned out SO GOOD! Your editing has gotten even better and your jokes were awesome. The Scientology joke or bit where Sonic was talking to the Eggman ship with the cough were fantastic
I've been feeling for a while like SEGA has forgotten what makes Sonic "Sonic" for a while. The classic formula certainly did it's own thing that worked very well all the way back in the 90's, and say what you will about how faithfully they managed to recapture that between 1999 and 2009, but Sonic still generally had his own identity throughout that timeframe. Then 2010 came and we got Sonic Colors, and since then we've seen the Marioification of Sonic. As far as the mainline games are concerned, the decade between 2010 and 2020 gave us four games and one major spinoff (Mania). All of the other games were unimportant mobile games and party games that can be considered non-canon. Colors, Generations, Lost World, Mania, and Forces are the major games that came out in that timeframe, and among them very little of Sonic's identity is preserved. Colors and Lost World are both okay games in general in my opinion, but they're not very "Sonic". Especially Lost World, which I do still enjoy. Generations comes closer to what Unleashed had going on, but at least in regards to it's story feels very rushed and unfinished. As a celebration of Sonic's history, Generations is great. Strip that away and judge it outside that lense though, and it holds up better as something to mod over than something that stands on it's own two feet. The level design varies between better and worse than Unleashed, the PC port is somewhat lazy and has probably the worst config launcher I've ever seen, and it does very little that is actually original. Mania does a fantastic job of returning to Sonic's roots, but then there's Forces which's only salvageable thing is it's custom characters. The plot feels like it's trying to be something out of the 2000's again, but collapses all over itself through poor writing and and even poorer understanding of the characters it's writing about. The controls and physics are janky and the whole thing just feels rushed and half assed. I want to be optimistic about SEGA saying they want to spend more time between games to make sure they get them right from now on, but that's literally what they did between 2010 and 2020. Think about it, between 1999 and 2009 we got Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Advance, Sonic Advance 2, Sonic Heroes, Sonic Battle, Sonic Advance 3, Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic Rush, Sonic 06, Sonic and the Secret Rings, Sonic Rush Adventure, and Sonic and the Black Knight, and I probably even missed a few. Among all of the games we got out of this timeframe, there are very few outright gems, but also very few outright dumpster fires. Generally, things stayed pretty mediocre. Since then, the major games we've gotten follow the same trend and there's only 5 of them. Even then, the mediocre games of the previous decade generally outclass the mediocre games of 2010-2020. Just take a look at Sonic's artwork from these two timeframes. There's a huge difference in style and attitude between the 2000's and the 2010's. It's very clear that SEGA doesn't even know how to play it safe anymore, because Sonic is struggling to escape painful mediocrity because of their "safe", and resembles Mario more than himself these days.
dude, i am so ready for this next part! this video managed to put words, into what I've felt about the block platforming for years now, and as someone who played the DS version first, i can't wait to see what you think about that game! also idk why, but your screaming, pretending to be sonic was so funny, i swear to god i almost spit out my cereal.
Man, they really leaned into Baldy McNosehair in this game. I seem to remember in the IDW comics they reference this. Sonic calls him Baldy McNosehair and Eggman shoots back “THAT’S NOT FUNNY! IT’S NEVER BEEN FUNNY! IT’S NEVER GONNA BE FUNNY!!” I chuckled at this
Thanks, Nick, for putting down to words the feeling I always had about Sonic Colours. It always felt weird, one step away from being Sonic, one step away from being something else. I could never understand why people put this game in such high pedestal. In the end, Daytime Unleashed still remains the peak of the Boost formula.
30:57 - The spike ball gets confused about which way to go? Yeah it sounds exactly like the Metroid 2 Spider ball. That thing if you start going right and go up a wall on the right and then to the ceiling that right wall is connected to you'd keep holding right to go left on said ceiling, but if you take your thumb off the controller while on that ceiling right would now send back to the right. Basically the directions are absolute unless the surface changes your orientation but the orientation of the controls don't re-orient until you stop.
Didn't think I'd watch it all in one sitting but here I am. Love your longer videos, can't wait for part 2. Also appreciate the insight you brought on the mario comparisons. I used to get annoyed with how Colors was constantly compared to Galaxy, but you made a good point with the music, and the overall platforming of this games DOES feel like 2d mario games.
The jokes are lame... but at the same time, this is the game that gave us Sonic saying "no copyright law in the universe is going to stop me!" and that's pretty great. :)
WHAT. THE. F***. GAME APOLOGIST? Where are your fans, you are so consistent, and awesome, and I go damn love your voice. SO WHERE THE HELL IS EVERYBODY! Your comedy has even boomed from the beginning of your channel to today. Your awesome. I love your content. And I wish more people liked it too.
I always felt like the constant shift to 2D in Colors was implemented to solve a problem more than being a creative choice. The Sonic Team has never really made an effort to refine platform sections in 3D Sonic games. When Sonic is not moving fast, he generally feels pretty janky in all his games. Controlling him never feels as tight as controlling Mario. So the simple solution is just to shift to 2D so that platform sections can be added. And that solution disguises itself as gameplay variety. All of this would be fine but the next problem is that they can’t even nail the 2D sections because Sonic controls like crap in 2D sections also.
@@Hamster_Pants That’s the only conclusion I can come up with. Why else does Sonic Team heavily rely on 2D sections for Platform gameplay? Colors is the biggest example of this.
7:30 I've seen this scene cut short so many times that I actually laughed when I saw the full scene when playing Ultimate. The punchline is actually quite a bit later when Cubot says, "I get it!" Extremely late. It was a genuinely funny scene and the oversimplification was done on purpose, but so many people cut the punchline short that it makes the scene look like it's talking to a 5 year old.
Even the full version fails to be funny, because even though the explanation is in service of the delayed reaction, that's not enough of a compelling or original punchline for it to pay off. The interaction should've just ended after _"Who are you calling nothing?",_ because everything up to then is genuinely funny.
Thats what ive been saying. They should combine the elements of Adventure and Boost to have the best of both worlds. Have Adventure be the main mechanic while the boost is something earned if you keep your momentum
THE SATURN?????? It’s been FOUR YEARS for to cover 1, 2, CD, 3, and GOD DAMN KNUCKLES along with Chaotix. By the time we get to Generations we’ll be on the 50th ANNIVERSARY
I find it incredibly ironic how Mario and Sonic have switched places, it just goes to show why Mario is succeeding because of it. Whilst Sonic has reverted to basic ideas, and stale execution of seemingly interesting concepts Mario has evolved further than ever before. Where Sonic now divulges in blocky platforming and safe design, Mario is exploring massive worlds filled with Humans, rolling into a ball, turning into a Super Saiyajin knock off and much more. Mario feels more like Sonic than Sonic himself now... The ambition and vision I saw in Adventure once upon a time, I now see in Mario Odyssey which is disturbing to actually think about.
34:56 i honestly feel like Unleashed, despite having the whole "orchestrated main theme with space background" thing, could not have its tittle theme swapped with SMGalaxy's and still feel like they have the same..."purpose" (not a music guy either so i don't know the terminology). For me Unleashed's theme feels more "grounded". You're on a grand adventure, sure, but it's not taking place in space. You'll only explore the planet. If anything, it feels like the theme (appropriately named "World Adventure") is more about the planet you're about to explore and your adventure through the different cultures and countries that the game has to offer than it is about going through galaxies and "reaching for the stars". Mario Galaxy and Sonic Colors do present themes songs fitting of an intergalactic adventure or just a story that takes place outside of the Earth through its entire duration. But i feel like Unleashed does not. Either that or my bias towards Unleashed is putting words into my mouth.....It is my favorite game after all. Either way you do make a good point and i'm enjoying the video overall!
I was 7 or 8 when I played this as my first Sonic game, and while I can't speak for everyone who played this around that age, I can verify that I didn't find the game's sense of humor funny or endearing back then and I certainly don't now.
It took me over 6 hours to watch this whole video because my internet decided to be shite today. Was totally worth it though, I'll probably come back to rewatch on a day when my internet isn't shite
8:52 I'm surprised you didn't mention the classic that can play in Aquarium Park: "Welcome to the exotic aquarium! Any water you may notice on the floor, is the result of our diligent housecleaning staff's mopping, and not evidence of a dangerous leak in the... oh heck with it, RUN FOR LIVES!!!"
While the delivery needed some work, I always enjoyed how dry the humor was in these cutscenes. Some dark, acne- ridden, corner of my mind will always consider the "Maybe, that's between me and the robot" line peak Sonic comedy.
I have come up with three punchlines for the “Bucket O’ Sushi” joke. “I’m pretty sure their main ingredient is salmonella.” “All I can say is don't go into the men's restrooms anytime soon” And my personal favorite *dry heave* “ I think it's trying to appeal.”
We live in an era where Sonic is like that one kid in school who has their grades all over the place English A's but his maths is D. Ngl I *do* find it insulting thinking sonic being best buds with Mario as despite not living in the era it kinda spits on the reason he existed in the first place. I've never liked colors but objectively I see how it bring people back, but with "Ultimate's" display people are seeing the cracks even more. Boost can work but it removes the core concept of sonic, Momentum based platforming thusly creating these weird scenario's where you the player must platform box to box, which is a part of why I assume people want the adventure formula back. What I've never liked in the Modern day era of Sonic is that fact that they aren't trying to capture Sonic's coolness & soul (In the games) and mainly cater towards him being a meme(aka lesser Deadpool).
@Games Yeah. But I feel that you can't just shove it all onto them as the direction and overseeing of the script would be the heads of sonic, changing how he was cool to being more of a meme.
That's some fine picky Nick nit picking that pointed out things I missed while watching others play this game. I love getting into the little details of what games have or what makes them good or bad.
Yo I'm gonna get Sonic Advance either for Christmas or after Christmas because I need to educate myself more on the sonic history. Using your vids and older games, I can reignite my sonic love
wow Nick i cant wait for more sonic colors,Also the Frenzy and Void Wisps remember what Eggman Did to turn them into Dark Wisps and Aid Sonic despite being Filled with Negative Energy causing sonic to go Berserk Wrath(Frenzy) or Tranquil Fury Gultioiny(Void). But It still amazing that this return of form to Sonic is getting a Two Maybe 3 Parter
Ok, I've watched your 3 minute intro, and already I feel your pain. I had fun playing Sonic Colors. Good Times. Why would I pay for a game that I already have and a keychain I don't need?

@Faidou
A-Fucking-men to that.

@Omen Rocks_123
Sonic died when Colours was born...
(◑ ︿ ◐)
And when Generations arrived, Sonic came back... just like Goku for 24 hours in the Buu Saga.
@@The_UltimateL1feform Sonic collapsed when the SEGA Saturn was successful in Japan and SEGA decided that it didn't need Sonic in order to success (and they were right)
Then Sonic Adventure happened... It was pretty decent, but definitely a rough transition into 3D that could've been a lot better, and it was also the beginning of many of the serious problems that plague the meta era (way too many bottomless pits, too much spectacle and little substance, level design too linear, etc)
Boom is far from being the thing that destroyed the franchise
the ‘Sonic the GODDAMN HEDGEHOG’ had me fucking ROLLIN
well worth the wait! there's already so much nuance to this perspective and it even put into words some of my thoughts on Colors as well. part 2 cant come soon enough!
I've always felt there was something "off" about Sonic Colors, and you've somehow been able to put it all into words. Great vid!
12:58 every time I go back to this part, it just keeps getting better
Oh my god 11:45 was glorious, some of those burns were phenomenonal. Absolutely unreal, nick.

What are you doing Sonic?"
"I'll tell you what's broken, Tails it's the system!"
But seriously, I'm glad you analyzed this game and even understood the core "problem" with it: it had potential, but half of it was squandered on making it a kids game...
Now I understand why people hate the wisps so much: they're literal powers that had trapped behind aliens with a limited timer....
Also, I'm dying throughout this episode with laughter.
"Picky Nick's Nitty Picks" is my favorite line from this entire channel. 😂
Also also, that comparison between Mario Galaxy's title music and Sonic Colors was pretty funny to see, but that comparison between Sonic Colors and A FREAKIN OLD GAME OF MARIO made me literally cry out, "WHY?! WHAT ARE YOU DOING SONIC?! YOU HAVE BECOME THE VERY THING YOU SWORE TO AVOID"
Most anticipated video of the year
Not a huge Sonic fan, but I absolutely loved Adventure 2, Unleashed (PS2 version and PS3 version).
I just watched a 40 minute video ripping one of my favorite games into pieces.
Subbed.
That clif hanger. Colors Ds is basically rush 3 there making it more true to the roots of the sonic series
@Games I thought colors DS was pretty good. It’s definitely WAY better than sonic 4.
I think colors DS has some pretty fun levels in it.
@Games It's not Rush 3, but it's still good. Don't expect it to be Rush 3 and you'll enjoy it.
Just expect a good, fun, fast and fluid 2D Sonic game.
@Games I think colors ds is way ahead of rush, but that’s just me. It is my favorite Sonic Game after all
@Games It's definitely good. I even think it managed the wisp powers more effectively.
My eyes bulged @39:51
The Savage Sonic burn got me rollin' xD 11:48
this is probably the best and funniest video youve made yet Nick, i cant wait to see what you else you have in store for us
That whole rant on 33:23 just adds on to my contempt for the Colors Era.

I honestly couldn't care foe the show at this point in time
“Picky Nick’s Nitty Picks” has to be a new tongue twister.
I always disliked Colors for those exact reasons, and I knew how to put it into words, but everyone hated me for that, so I simply stopped saying what I think about Colors (And I've seen a lot of people talking about youtubers that dislike Colors and how they actually aren't Sonic fans and their channels are only negativity, like Premmy and Twip for example)
For some reason this game gathered a part of the fandom with insane toxic positivity, and I think Nick knows it, as in this video, he tried to make as clear as possible that "Colors isn't a bad game", even with all of those negative points

@@callumbutler9902 He really has. He's always been super talented but this was phenomenal!
Too long didn't read

6:56 I see what you did there sir
After that cliffhanger I’m excited

12:08 omg the amount of roast burnt my turkey.
HARD disagree on that
@@Hamster_Pants That’s the only conclusion I can come up with. Why else does Sonic Team heavily rely on 2D sections for Platform gameplay? Colors is the biggest example of this.
@Ham-Man that’s what she said
Wow! It's finally coming out, awesome
This has been a throughly entertaining review of colors so far.
That opening is amazing. So very meta.
I like how boost mode worked in the advance series the best. By it activating by maintaining speed and momentum, it felt very earned.
Thats what ive been saying. They should combine the elements of Adventure and Boost to have the best of both worlds. Have Adventure be the main mechanic while the boost is something earned if you keep your momentum
"It's best we just do this all at once"

THE SATURN?????? It’s been FOUR YEARS for to cover 1, 2, CD, 3, and GOD DAMN KNUCKLES along with Chaotix. By the time we get to Generations we’ll be on the 50th ANNIVERSARY
Sonic colors & sonic mega collection has some of the best soundtracks/OST that I’ve ever heard from sonic games
34:56
i honestly feel like Unleashed, despite having the whole "orchestrated main theme with space background" thing, could not have its tittle theme swapped with SMGalaxy's and still feel like they have the same..."purpose" (not a music guy either so i don't know the terminology).
The jangly keys joke still gets me, even on a rewatch.
It took me over 6 hours to watch this whole video because my internet decided to be shite today. Was totally worth it though, I'll probably come back to rewatch on a day when my internet isn't shite
Bruh I can’t wait for this :D
The delivery on the line “Picky Nick’s Nitty Picks” is so dumb. I love it.
8:52 I'm surprised you didn't mention the classic that can play in Aquarium Park:
"Welcome to the exotic aquarium!
10:35
You sir are an artist.
Gotta appreciate how in depth these reviews are
I have come up with three punchlines for the “Bucket O’ Sushi” joke.
“I’m pretty sure their main ingredient is salmonella.”
“All I can say is don't go into the men's restrooms anytime soon”
And my personal favorite
*dry heave* “ I think it's trying to appeal.”
Its nice to hear someone else had problems with the controls/2d movement in colours, they really hampered my enjoyment of the game
9:08 is such a Cave Johnson thing to say, I absolutely love it.
The jokes you made about the jokes in this game complete my life.
That's some fine picky Nick nit picking that pointed out things I missed while watching others play this game.
