Always check which plants will grow taller so you plant in the middle (or back) then the smaller plants in front. Remember too that most plants spread so all room for growth 😁. I live in New England and we have to mulch, too !!!
So nice! I'm sure it's filled in even more by now. We're putting in a cottage garden (from seed -- yikes!) in our front flower bed this year. We're planning to eventually convert the entire front yard to native California / desert Southwest (I'm in central California), so this is my one shot to do this!

You may notice I am wearing mask while working in the garden, it's because I have a sevier pollen allergy and at the beginning of April when we were building this garden the pollen count was super high. I only use organic soil when buying potting soil and I only buy plants WITHOUT neonicatanoids in their growing which means only 2 plant shops in my town of 1 million people, but it is important to me to be safe to the bees! Very fun to see how sandy-like your soil was at the beginning. Cute garden.

There are some that are good for everywhere, but the best thing to do is find out what works best in your climate. Our local Lowes was very helpful when it came to picking the flowers. Also, doing a cottage garden is great for beginners. You can do whatever you want and it will look great, there are really no rules for cottage garden 😉! All the best for your garden 💚💚💚. @@aishwaryaoverby I know I planted it in the garden too but put in it’s own little area. I read that it spreads through the roots over time like the mint family, but not as thuggish. Maybe you can put a pot with an open bottom buried in the soil around the black and blue salvia so it doesn’t get out of control. Salvias are always the best for hummingbirds. 😍
