I knew a bombproof cattle horse who broke his own neck when a cow ran out of a shoot and spooked him. My horse would pull when tied and I eventually just wrapped the lead around the fence post a few times so it would give a bit if she pulled, but would maintain some friction and keep her from running off. They panick when they pull a horse it and then realize they can't get away. This little trick worked and we never had another blow up when tied. That said, she had also never been trained to give to pressure like that. I think people now are so lucky to have the internet and to have handy things like the figure 8 horse tie thing that does the same thing that my trick did..it gives a bit and keeps them from panicking but they don't get away.

My colt needs to have his hooves trimmed by a farrier for the first time.I have worked on this and he does let me pick up his feet but he will only hold them up for a few seconds. That is not going to be helpful to the farrier. He also will not stay still.Any tips ?
