      nah, many people confuse it with TBI, it is a computer controled E4MC carburetor with a built in fuel mixture solenoid and TPS sensor, the computer controls fuel mixture and and matches it to data from MAP and TPS, other than that, the carb is old style.

    I took my drivers test in a royal blue 89 example of this car. It was the first and only time i drove the beast. I can remember trying to figure out where everything was in it, such a monstrous tank. But what a ride, never found a car the could ever match it.

      What a doozy1929 You can find stock ones, trouble is a lot of them are stricken with rust. That being said, I'd rather see them rimmed up, on switches or candy painted versus being stripped in a U-Pull yard.
      Personally I'd like to find a coupe, swap in a 500ci and 4L80, and coil over suspension on a simple billet wheel.

      Tyler Durden Almost the same car. The 89 Brougham would have a split bench in front, and a 5.0 rather than a 425, but basically the same car as the 77 De Ville, Electra, 98, Parisian, etc.

      The car made major changes done to it in 1980, while it still basically looked like the 77 - 79 car, there were lots of differences. My Ex had a 79, I had an 86, we parked them next to each other and the differences in construction was quickly apparent.

    Those older cars were big, parking wasn't always easy, you had to pump the gas a couple times on a cold day to get them to started, but damn riding in them felt like a sofa on wheels and yes, the steering is no comparison to the newer, stiffer cars of today.

      The odometer reads in kilometres. Looks like about 97000 from what I saw ,around 61000 miles. All Canadian cars from around 1980 forward have metric dash clusters.

    • @jsciarri
      @jsciarri 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      That odometer has most likely rolled over, judging by the overall cosmetic condition of the interior and exterior, which equals to about 122k miles.

      @FrankySilverFace 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Nate Thegreat I believe the seat material was velour. Super soft and every plush riding 1980s Era land yacht had them. All my Pontiac Parisienne brougham models had velour seats. So comfy!!!

    • @Rebel9668
      @Rebel9668 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      My '88 Fleetwood Brougham had leather seats and I loved them. Very comfortable and much easier to keep clean than velour, especially if you eat or have a beverage while you're driving. I also like that it had the big bench seats as well. I despise bucket seats, especially on long drives. My butt goes numb in them because you have such limited movement in a bucket seat, whereas on a bench seat you can slide to one side and lean a little, giving each cheek a rest, lol.

    • @unitedstatesofmanasseh1936
      @unitedstatesofmanasseh1936 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I had the same all over my bucket seats, doors, etc on my 85 Olds Calais. I'm still amazed when I look back at how such an economy car was so luxurious. I got lots of compliments on it back in the day. It was something rare GM got right in the 80s.

      They actually make more than 140 hp. Its true that this car made 140 hp at a certain rpm but what the manufacturer didn't tell insurance companies is that if you revved the engines up another thousand rpms you got another 100 hp. It was a half truth told so people could get cheaper insurance.

    Excellent example! I actually have the same car in the same color, except mine has the d'Elegance package which basically gets you even thicker seats and some extra badging. The 307 can be love-hate as mentioned, particularly for those who get an old one and don't understand it. When tuned correctly and tweaked with a couple of easy-to-do adjustments, though, the engine can be pretty pleasant as it has decent low-end torque and is virtually bulletproof from the perspective of reliability.

    Man that's car is a beast. So cool looking. I'm surprised Cadillac was using carb all the way until 1989... I would that though that die out by the early 80s when fuel injection was starting to come around.

      I find that interesting as well. I am daily driving a 1986 chevrolet c10. That was the last year for the truck to come carbureted. The next year in 1987, the trucks came equipped with Throttle body injection for the first time. I thought that it was the last carbureted vehicle ever as well, until I saw this video. So I certainly learned something new today.

      Luxury cars, especially American, have a weird timeline with technological updates. Because of their price, they are likely to be the first to offer something new, like a CD player in the 80's. Yet their older, more conservative customer base is less likely to move past a certain point. So they still had cassette tape players as standard equipment through the 2000's.

Definitely a passenger car and not a driver oriented one LOL. I love how this guy loves his car. I had an 86 FWB DeElegance. Still my favorite Caddy, favorite car period. When I sold it at action, it had over 500,000 on it, and the engine had never needed anything more than a carb, and valve cover gaskets. Transmission had never been apart. Did destroy 2 rear ends though. But still my fav. I currently have a 2010 STS, which doesn't ride like Cadillac should, and a 95 Fleetwood, same wheelbase as the one in the video but different body style, and with the LT1.
    Just a tidbit of info, in 77 GM downsized their big cars. Cadillac went from 131/133 inch wheel bases to 121.5 inches. Coincidentally the older pre 1977 Chev Impala and Caprice were 121.5 inches before being downsized to 116 inches. I have always wondered if Cadillac just used the older Chev frame to build their downsized cars 1977-1996

    There was a band in the mid-1980s that had a song "Slick Black Cadillac", Quiet Riot, loved that song! Surprising to see a 1989 vehicle with a carburetor, my 1982 Plymouth Reliant had throttle-body EFI.

    I had a 1987 version of that car.
    I also had a 1977 Buick Electra.
    They were very similar cars, but the Electra was much nicer and much more powerful.
    They were also both downsized cars....
    It is funny to hear people talk about the 1989 Brougham as though it is a large car. I have a 1976 Lincoln Continental Town Coupe. A two door car with 155 more cubic inches, 12 inches longer, a thousand pounds heavier, several inches wider, and still quicker due to the still inadequate but much higher power.
    That vintage Brougham is a very, very sad car. No power, no mohair, no velour seats.... ugh...
    The only good thing about the GM C body cars is how you could get the rear sliding and stear the front and twist around corners 10 to 15 mph faster than you can in a CTS-V today.
    And the body roll on those cars was hillarious. It would roll until you were sitting at a 45 degree angle, but no weight would shift, so if you ignored the gaudy looking body roll you could still out-corner the bitches in their similar year BMW's and Audi's.
    I miss those dinky little C body cars. (C became FWD in 1987 so the Broughams were "D" body cars although there were no changes to the platform. Too confusing.)

    Love all the Eurotrash in the comments whining about Americans and their bloated cars, yet every time I've seen anyone from Europe visiting over here, they've rented the *biggest* SUV they could find. And it's usually just a single person, no physical reason to rent anything bigger than a subcompact. One guy managed to find an International CXT to rent at one of those exotic rental places, should have seen the smile on his face...

    Had the Buick LeSabre with the same engine. Vacuum hoses were a problem as the plastic connectors dried out and cracked, causing vacuum leaks. The Caddy version was much quieter on the road, but used more gas as it was much heavier. My mother had the Caprice, and of the three it had the best performance with the Chevy 305ci small block.
