    In this non-sponsored video I explain to you how much my auction bought 981 Boxster GTS 3.4 PDK has cost to maintain since I acquired it in December 2021 around 8000 miles ago, and ask the big question, is it worth it?

    They are lovely cars, as Porsche retailer we see the PSE fail alot. So looking at what you bought (and usually BCA is the place to dump cars). The bumper paint for us is £500 per panel, PSE is about £1800-2k to fix, rear tyres ( I would of chosen PS4 - the best all round tyre) , Wheel refurb £50 per wheel, would of kept them standard silver ;). We sold a 35k miler for around £46k a few months back, but cracking cars !

    Hi Andrew glad to see you still doing videos my husband says you know your stuff!! Still not sure about the Up GTI we gave ordered as the price has just gone up so much and with the cost of living rises this hasnt helped. We see a High Up blue motion very low miles what is your view on the Blue motion does it really make gearing more sluggish needing worked more at the lower end? Thanks again

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Evelyn, sorry for the delay, just can't keep up. Not driven a BlueMotion but every Up! is cheap to run so I wouldn't risk it being too eco driven and less fun. You are right, BlueMotion do tend to have longer gearing. Unlikely High Up! will be much more economical that your GTI so stick with it, prices are holding up on the used cars so it should prove a cheap car to run plus the order book have closed (again). Your patience should be worth it

    My 981 Boxter GTS got written off by some idiot that drove into whilst it was parked. I got all my money back plus a little bit more in payout from insurance company. They are expensive to service, but the car is completely reliable if you keep it serviced. I did over 30k miles in mine, including many trips down to south of France in it. Fantastic car and a safe investment if you can budget for the services

      Thanks Daniel. Well the car is still here though trying to keep the miles down as it had its busiest year by far in 2022. Looking forward to taking it some special places in 2023. It's hard to beat, I want a 718 GT4 but for £80k I could keep the Boxster and get a GTI Clubsport S - a very nice 2 car garage. Also GT4 will be a headache bottoming out and on stupid semi-slick tyres unless you pay £1000+ to swap for some that won't kill you. And being manual if you dare hit the rev limiter you get told off by Porsche when you come to sell! GTS (S for strasse/street) is the sensible but still big fun choice :)

    Hi Andrew, slightly off topic question to your video but was wondering which do you think is a better choice for a daily driver currently out of a mk5 or mk6 gti? More focused on milage and the age of them now, do you think the mk5 is still a solid choice for regular milage? Thanks

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mk6 as it's so much newer, just be aware of timing chain issues 2011 and earlier. Most Mk5s are junk now but there is hope with Mk6 and in theory it's a superior, certainly not worse than Mk5 as it's so similar underneath. Also better on fuel and no timing belt chainges needed.

    RE the stone chips have you had any experience with the clear PPF films you can apply to the first quarter of the bonnet/front end Andrew? Are they effective? I was considering ordering for whatever my new car is as current one (Mk7.5 Golf) has been hammered by stone chips more than any car I've had. (I'm probably just going to get another 7.5 Golf 😂)

    Hi Volkswizard. (I didn’t catch your name from the video).
    I test drove one of these cars today, my first Porsche drive ever! I am leaning towards purchasing it and will make my decision within the next 24 hours. So I am doing whatever research I can on it now.
    As I’m looking at buying mine from a dealer, I would be interested to know what your expenses would total for the costs that a dealer would have incurred?
    In other words, is the premium one pays to a dealer worth the costs/hassles of having to make these repairs at one’s own expense after the purchase?
    I guess I could rewatch your video and list the expenses myself, but I am being lazy, and thinking that some of your other viewers may have the same question.

    As a bit of a tyre nerd I'm curious why you went for Assy 2's on the rear when Assy 6's are the latest design I believe. You mentioned something about them being Porsche approved but surely the later design would be just as good if not better? To be honest I'm surprised Goodyear still makes these older versions and maybe your video explains why!?

    • @jameslove888
      @jameslove888 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you have an OPC warranty (not sure if the case here) you have to run N rated tyres. The PS4S comes in N0 and is what I use for my car.

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not just warranty, tyre was approved by Porsche at great expense to Goodyear and is custom made to suit 981

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s all about Porsche approval, a non approved generic Assymetric 6 is unlikely to be better than a 2 that’s been tuned for 981 chassis. But it’s academic anyway as you can’t run a non N rated (Porsche approved) tyre without risking insurance complications. I spoke to Jerome from Goodyear who worked with Porsche to approve Assym 2 in 2011 and asked him why no approval for later tyre and he said 2 still meets Porsche spec but also hinted it costs loads of money for Goodyear & Porsche so not worth it. It’s a great tyre, done 3k on them though mainly dry & warm. Improved the ride a bit

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good point Steve but most Porsches won't see a track so would be logical to default on and let the track minority do a bit of fiddling as per Golf to leave it off. Even if some one has a GT3/4 that they track, they'll be using the parking brake more than the times when they come off track and need to leave it off. I'm hoping it can be tweaked with diagnostics to do what I want as it would make a great car perfect

  • @Gandalf606

    It's the wonderful sound that really adds that extra visceral touch isn't it? This is why battery powered cars fail, for me. At best, they're silent - at worst, they sound like a milk float. But a decent engine on full song - it's what makes driving such a pleasure. Something battery powered cars lack. Roll on the work of Toyota and other clever engineers who are pioneering liquid hydrogen powered ICE cars!

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  ปีที่แล้ว

      When I used to sell Mk2 Golf GTIs I got lots of comments about how they were overpriced and my reply used to be I don't set the prices, the market does (and now the cars are worth 3 x more 😁). 2022 has been a weird year because the lack of new car supply has continued due to the Ukraine war. Some older people are probably heading for their last few years of being able to get in and out of a Porsche so will pay whatever is necessary. If you can wait then do so as the last 2 years have been unprecedented in the motor trade and when supply comes back there will be some sharp corrections especially if this coincides with consumers feeling the cost of living pinch. The fact Porsches command such a high used value is testament to their desirability so worth waiting for 👍

Also having a mooch around the Porsche centre in Perth when I was working....... it's an itch that I can't get rid of. Thanks🤣.
    Interesting that you've had a 911 before - I'd be interested in your "take" on how the Boxter compared with it? I'm not 100% sure I'd get a Boxter (although it certainly seems perfectly useable with the roof up), was wondering how it would compare with a Cayman? I've read plenty of how noisy they both are, but you didn't seem to find that (& it didn't sound particularly "noisy" on your video). Probably a lot to do with tyre choice, I think.
    Probably at that age that it's time for the stereotypical "mid life crisis" car now🤣🤣. Turning 50 does that to you.....!
