Chameri GS is pretty close to the same watch. The Chameri has AR coating and a screw-down crown. No script on the crown but other than that I'd say the same watch. Just picked up a Chameri GS for $59.00. That would be the other difference.

Hmmm...I'll have to take a closer look. The blue was very consistent that's the only reason I thought it was painted....but I've never seen real blued hands IRL
Oh I'm definitely getting this. This watch will end up in the AliExpress hall of fame for sure. Seiko can go to hell, keeping their high polish dials with blued second hand models super expensive. Price gouging nice designs sucks. They don't cost more to make.
I got this watch and the only thing I want to improve (aside from putting a mechanical movement) is the hour & minute hands. They are quite thin and the cutting edge is a bit narrow, so it does not reflect the light as good as the GS (of course I don't expect the level of GS). Talked to the watchmaker and he agreed but couldn't find better manufacturer

A really solid take on the classic Grand Seiko aesthetic. I wonder why these high (well, higher) beat quartzes are so rarely seen, since the 2 Hz beat rate doesn't seem to drain the battery all that quickly - so where's the catch? :D Thanks for the review!
These movements are newer (released 2016) so that has something to do with it...it's also quartz, so it isn't "sexy" but I honestly love it...hope more start using it.

This movement is 4 Hz. A 4Hz does drain the battery significantly more than 1Hz. (But paying my local watch repair shop to change my battery once every 2 years is not a downside imo.)
Escapement Time also now makes a homage of a Longines Conquest with pt5000 movement. Its 38mm. I think Hwang is trying to come up with something different to keep his company fresh. The competition in the homage divers watch space is crazy now. I ordered the black model. I hope it is as good as the ET Quartz dress watch.
On mine, the double baton at twelve is ever so slightly misaligned against the second markers on either side. Annoying. However, for the price I cannot really grumble as the positives certainly outweigh this one negative.
Just seen watch me with watches excellent review of this, which led me to you, subbed 👍🏻 He said the blue seconds are actually heat treated and these watches are all made by one man...incredible! I think this would be even better without the quartz text as the 4 ticks per second would fool most untrained eyes to the fact this isn't actually an automatic. Not that I have a problem with quartz. Seriously thinking about adding this to my collection as a pick up and go option as it's a stunner.

Another competitor is Pagani Design PD-1689 which is a nice homage of RLX Celleni. Actually its even better than the Celleni since it has long hands while those Cellini's hands look short and funny. PD-1689 also has sweeping quartz movement which is light years ahead in the accuracy compared to those overpriced RLX.

I haven't see the black dial in pics or vids, unfortunately. FWIW the Chameri is like $20 cheaper if you go with the white dial, and it's basically the same watch. I've got the white one coming up for review very soon.
Firstly, thanks for bringing these great watches to our attention. Wouldn't have known about this watch without your video. However the downside is.... bad for my wallet.
Never tried it, but I'll say no. Between the case shape, and lug holes, and case size, it's very difficult to get a good fitting bracelet to fit if it has fitted endlinks. Even sub bracelets don't fit on every sub homage out there. Straight endlinks, sure, that'll fit no problem. Hollow endlinks, more likely to fit because the endlinks can be manipulated easily to get them to fit.

Baltany has a couple but higher prices Escapement time does the value right...you get a lot for the money and there aren't many 36mm quartz dress watches that are THIS nice for THIS price.
I love their watches but need a new logo that just says "ET". The long name "Escapement Time" is just too long and weird here in the USA. They should just role with "ET".
Escapement time is fine...but they need to do 2 lines and/or change text. Their fancy cursive on their new SKX will be a deal breaker for some....it just doesn't fit.

As nice as the watch looks, I don't care for the Seiko VH31. Mecha-quartz movements, to me, are an anemic attempt to imitate a real mechanical watch. It just behaves wrong. Yes, you won't be plagued by the seconds hand not hitting the seconds indices. That's good. However, I will always know that the 4 ticks per second as not the result of a mechanical movement from manufacturer trying something new(maybe for better accuracy?) But instead the result of a big name not trying hard enough, even if it means using a monster battery(CR2016) to power 6 ticks per second. BTW: Bulova uses a CR2016 to power its Precisionist movement to get 16 ticks per second. I would think Seiko could engineer a movement that behaves realistic(6 ticks per second mechanical). Some might see this as better than normal quartz. I see it as low effort. Seiko needs to replace the VH31 with a 6 tick variant.
The VH31 is definitely a step in the right direction, but I agree. I'd love to see a true high beat quartz from seiko or anyone else. But the VH31 eliminates my biggest issue with traditional quartz watches, so I'm mostly happy with this one.

@@EscapeWheel one clarification on my "just looked wrong" phrase, 4 ticks per second on mecha-quartz does not tick the same as mechanical. There seems to be less energy pushing the quartz seconds hand and or very noticable discreet start-stop events of quartz at 4 ticks.
