I wish you could have a wind puff to use when it's windy. Sometimes I'm struggling to hear what the tour guide is saying

JM. The reason why there is no hotel around that sandy place is because of the sand and wind. You see first it will take alot to build on that sand. Inagine diiging out the sand to reach hard rock. Secondly the wind blows and blows alot of sand into the buildings so maintaining a hotel or any building will become expensive.
The dubai of malindi is another place with sand dunes i forget the name. "LivKenya blogger" took us there.
malindi is known as "Little Italy" because of the many italians who come to malindi for vacation and some settle in malindi and build hotels and villas . Most of the hotels in Malindi are italian owned infact many locals speak italian fluently.
The also built the first space station in Africa at malindi in the 60's and thats how they came to know about Malindi when scientists and engineers came to run the space station and they loved the place the weather, the friendly people and beautiful nature.
    Just google "Malindi little Italy"

I applaud the guide he is quite knowledgeable on historical matters. Malindi has a lot of historical assets that have not been marked and information on slave trade is not well documented and shared. I conducted a research on slavery and learned that not to far from Vasco Dagama pillar there is a very old Arab fishing village that has large number of mosques and is very well protected from the public .The village is called mambrui and next to the town there is a hotel with a river inside which has never dried and was used to transport slaves who were captured in giriama villages .The slaves were lured with sweet dates and the strong men were hooded and taken to dhows ,where they would be transported to shimoni , from there they ended up in largest slave market in zanzibar. From Zanzibar was the slave hub for larger vessels to India, Cape Town and onwards to America's and North America. Most of the ivory from East Africa ended up in two cities in the State of Connecticut called ivoryton and Essex and that is proof enough that slaves from East Africa ended on East Coast of USA. If you are interested in learning more about slavery in Africa you can communicate to me through this email pkegode@gmail.com
