I really missed the more "old school" episodes so I'm super happy right now. Also, I'm a big Vibrato fan, so double good 🙂 Plus a couple of Record Time moments as bonus!
@@jhspedals Russell Wilson, is that you? Wilson must be preparing fine dining, because at the price of 165 million, his cooking is too rich for my liking.
In this world, there was only one person who knew what the tremolo arm on a guitar was for and how to use it on a level inaccessible to others. And that will never change. The irreplaceable Jeff Beck.
These videos are a real treat for guitar pedal lovers and a prodigy of knowledge on the subject. They are also very funny and entertaining. You can't ask for more.
Clear and informative, dis-spells the confusion between tremolo & vibrato, delivered with a bit of wit and subtle humor (Josh-style, of course)--well done, folks.
Thank you for doing these amazing videos on different guitar pedals!! Watching them has gotten me inspired to play more electric guitar and try new pedals!
I'm amazed that you did a history of vibrato and skipped over Magnatone amps entirely. You didn't even mention Robert Ward or Lonnie Mack. That's a major hole in your history
Thank you for this video - I love everything about this! I am a long time chorus/vibrato fan. I wish ALL vibratos had the "rise" function - without that, I struggle with the vibrato if I can't control the "bloom" of the effect. The Waza VB2 has that and it's hard to really get behind a vibrato that does not have that function. I've even tried to have some modded though most modders won't touch that... but that Shaker might get a second chance. There is nothing like this sound.
Super happy to see a new educational video from the gang. I like the live streams and everything, but this is what brought me to the channel several years ago. Bravo.
Yes! I've seriously missed this kind of episode, thank you! Still waiting for that unique/unusual distortions episode Josh mentioned literally years ago now. In this format. Please and thank you.
Love this format! "Just The Facts, Ma'am...". Nothing wrong when they jam; BUT, when the jams are constantly interruptive, the key learning points get lost - EDUCATE ME, don't ENTERTAIN ME until "After The Learnin' Be Done" - Love the whole JHS Gang!
02:30 I know you have highlighted the Uni-Vibe as the first 'pedal' for Vibrato, but Vibrato (electronically & in stereo) was available on older Magnatone amplifiers.
I am just starting into playing electric. I have a boss katana and will be messing around with the on board effects etc for a while. However. I know before long I will be investing in pedals so I have been doing online research to learn. I really appreciate the straightforward teaching you do here. It's like sitting with a friend who's not out to sell you something but to share their knowledge of something they love. When I do take the plunge abd buy my first pedals they will most likely be JHS. Thanks for what you do.
i love these kinds of episodes, you could even go a bit more nerdy and talk about how the effect is archieved, especially in analog units. my mxr univibe is always on just to move the notes a bit. the eqd aqueduct is also a great and very flexible vibrato with a cool look.
Powerful J H S. Amongst fierce competition, you guys remain in my top 3 TH-cam channels consistently because you keep bringing it. I watched the guitar history series the other day and I couldn't stop until I watched the entire thing. ha
I love this type of episode ! Thank you Josh and the team ! Also it's always cool when you recommand some band known for using the types of pedals your are talking about ! Thanks for that !
The Behringer Ultra Vibrato (UV300) has been on my board for 10+ years and I LOVE IT. Highly recommend . One of the best VB2 Clones out there. Also there are some modes in the ZOOM MS70 CDR that are AMAZING...and that one is stereo! New version is out soon actually!
I love my 3-series chorus used in vibrato mode. I feel like it has some sort of compressor built in - the notes are wobbly but smooth and just go on and on. Well done, JHS!
Love this kind of episode! I would love for you guys to do some episodes on dynamics of guitar sound with pedals, recording hacks and stage hacks and techniques to get pro sounds on stage and in a recording space. The dynamics and techniques that goes into this. Maybe some ideas on how to set up a home recording space? Or minimalists systems.
I like these types of episodes! I never knew that chorus was a single vibrato with the clean mixed. I always thought it was two vibratos in different phases with an LFO.
These educational-episodes are why I found this channel, why I use pedals now, and why more than half of the pedals I’ve bought are JHS. I’d love to see one of these every week, but I understand that you’re pretty busy around there at the moment. By the way, the 3-series overdrive stacked with the Notaklon into my AC-30 is the best tone I’ve ever had. Thank you. Seriously.
Love the Dawes shoutout here! Great episode! I have (and love) the 3 Series Chorus, and it basically lives in vibe mode. I also have the Keeley Hydra, which has an excellent vibrato hiding in it too in case anyone didn't know!
Absolutely love these!!! Make more episodes like this! Also, I would love some of these on the harder to understand newer type of effects. Like, the Hologram Microcosm, Chase Bliss Habit, Blooper, etc.
CORRECTION!
We misspelled Fumio Mieda's name, which should be Mieda, not Mieta!
Ed maverick used too for acoustic guitar in Live shows check it out
Yes, Japanese, not ITALIAN!
Respect!
So kinda like ta da...forgive.
Love and miss these kinds of 'splainer episodes!
this but add more jams as examples
Same, I kind of... hate the other videos and livestreams. I'm here for the history!
Absolutely agree
Me either!

I really like these short and sweet pedal history lessons with a bit of tech talk sprinkled in.
I like this type of episode. It's classic JHS Show.
ah, classic Vibrato, most formidable adversary of the X Men
And best friend of Jean Grey (hi-yoooo)
I don't get it
Very good,brother.👍
the AXe Men
Love the Boards of Canada shoutout. They’re the biggest reason for my interest in modulation and warbly tape sounds.

One of the best parts of the channel is when he talks positively about other pedals - and it just makes me want to buy JHS that much more
5:03 Primus also uses it a lot! Man, I love how Larry and Les use effects, you guys could make an episode on them!
Love the short format of deep diving into an effect category or brand!
I will never get enough of this format of jhs show, the distilled info. Pure concentrated knowledge, delicious.
Really miss these videos on the history of a type of effects pedal. Please keep making more of these
Can't get enough of that vibin' stuff! And more 'splainin' 'sodes, pliz? They're always fun, informative, and entertaining.
I bloody love these type of episodes. Makes me warm and fuzzy (other effects are available).
Yes, bring back these types of episodes as well as the shoot out videos between original pedals and their clones. Thank you!!!
Campfire headphase is an incredible throwback! That's getting a listen tonight!
Also loving this episode, a true return to form.
Always got to love a shout out to the vib on Boards of Canada. Campfire is definitely a best of all time album.
Back to the content I subscribed for!!!!! Love this stuff! Thank you, Josh!!!
These kinds of episodes are the reason I subscribed years ago.
It's been a long time since one of these types of episodes. As always, loved it.
Ah, I'm so happy this type of video is here again!
Refreshing somewhat return to form. Really dig this approach.
Graham Coxon from Josh's favorite band, Blur, is also a big VB-2 fan. Josh probably already knows this haha. Great episode.
Can't believe he didn't mention Bank Holiday /s

NGL best type of episodes, and the reason why I'm subscribed.
Wow!
Josh is back on track. 🥰
Thanks for the like Joshua! 😊
I mean mister Bocanegra. Not the strange tall guy who wants us to believe he's the boss. 🙄
This format and type of content is how I discovered JHS back in the day. Love to see this kind of stuff again!!
Thumbs up for the mention of Boards of Canada! Love my VB-2W.

Glad to see the old show back, this was fun. You should get the Stompbox Breakdown guy over for the next one, he’d be great.
This was the best episode in a while in my humble opinion! I miss the simple videos that explain the effects and show excellent examples!
Shout out to the Flamma Mod FC05! Maybe my favorite pedal and it’s only $40. These history episodes are my favorite, thanks JHS!

I love when Josh breaks down an entire genre of pedals, points out underrated gear, really just the lot of him talking about pedals.
I missed these types of JHS videos!
At the same time, it aitn' so good for my wallet cuz off I go looking for a vibrato...
Yes! I think this is my favourite type of JHS video ❤
I'm amazed that you did a history of vibrato and skipped over Magnatone amps entirely. You didn't even mention Robert Ward or Lonnie Mack. That's a major hole in your history
I love ZVex’s take on it with the Lofi. It’s a crazy flexible vibrato with heavily saturated compression.
Magnatone wasn't before Uni-Vibe? Um. yeah it was. By a lot.
But MagnaTone was an amp, not a pedal.
I think Vox was even before them.
@@johntedesco6304 He said first electronic pitch vibrato for guitarists. Magnatone introduced that in 1957.

@@johntedesco6304, Josh said "device"; *"first electronic pitch vibrato device*". An amp is a device, and Josh didn't specify a pedal.
Not only is this well explained but the musical examples are killer!

Boards of Canada are so good. Never thought I'd see them mentioned in a JHS video.
