CRP (C-Reactive Protein) is a protein produced by the liver in response to inflammation. Elevated levels of CRP in the blood can indicate the presence of inflammation in the body and are often used as a marker in medical tests to assess the risk of certain diseases. CRP also is estimated for follow-up of patients with certain inflammatory conditions like Rheumatoid arthritis, Tuberculosis, post-perative follow up after major surgery etc, and in differential diagnosis of management of neonatal septicaemia and meningitis.
CRP can be estimated in two ways. One is Qualitative method (which tells you whether the serum sample is CRP positive or not. The second one is Semi-Quanitative Method (which yield a quantitative measurement of C-reactive Protein in your blood serum).
