Hello, thanks for the video Can you perform a test with your solution on 4K 30 fps in an environment of 27 to 30°Celcuis? how long would you record will it stop until there is no memory left, or until it overheats. I really need a camera that shoot 4K30fps for 1h30 on that temperatures and really worried if the ZVE1 is not capable to do that
Also one more question - how long do you typically stream content for that you don't see much overheating at all? Looking to run 20-30 minutes at 4k/24 indoors.
Hey Zac! Thanks for the video, it was really helpful. I didn't know about the dummy batteries at all. Well... I'm thinking... It'd probably get overheated in case I'm shooting a really long video and I'd definitely have a plug in this case. When I'm outside, I wouldn't care as I'd be shooting short footage. My question is does having a dummy battery avoid overheating completely or just prolonging it? Can I shoot hours of an interview with it? Have you tested it?
I have noticed that your camera has a ! Sticker on the back on the camera. I just bought mine and it doesn’t come with that sticker. I wonder if it’s country based. The other person I saw with a sticker on was from Canada. Are you from Canada ?
Hello Zac ! I'm really hesitating between the ZV-E1 and the FX30 because I'm going on a long trip in a year, and I plan to make long vlogs, filming a lot, at the best possible quality. I'm very worried that the ZV-E1 won't keep up in terms of overheating, which is why the FX30 seems like a better choice with its fans. What do you think? Please be honest, because your choice will literally be my investment, thanks Zac
@@loucalone I’ve only had my ZV-E1 overheat on me one time and that was indoors while doing a livestream experiment. So I don’t think that it would really be a big issue, but if you’re really concerned about it then the FX30 is another amazing camera for video (and it had a built in fan). You can also get APS-C lenses for a lot less money, which is another plus. Either way I don’t think you can really go wrong.
It is possible if you're not using the fan or the dummy battery. Then again, I would be using it in 4k. But if you are shooting in 1080 it would be less taxing on the camera.
Hmm. It sounds like Sony needs to hire some more engineers. smart heat wicking, more metal, different metal, external heat syncs, etc. Maybe just better electronics in general. Apple did some of this work from day 1 with the first Mac. I still want this camera though. But mark iii with the above. yes please.
@@ZacSopak Exactly, and you can't switch the batteries to give a colder one inside. Why would the dummy battery help? It would be even the opposite in case of stepping down the voltage on a dummy battery...
dummy battery . no. no no no. unless its just vlogging or u dont care about the shot that much. or a shot u could easily re create if that cable detaches. (shoot from scratch ) a normal sony battery has some intelligence like save shot before powering off. dummy battery doesnt have that.
@@TheJadedFilmMaker interesting. I wasn’t aware of the power off thing. Can’t say that I’ve had that issue before. I personally like the dummy battery for studio use or livestreaming
@@ZacSopak you can power the zv-e1 with a powerbank and also at the same time connect a USB 40mm fan (like Noctua) and place it behind the zv-e1. It will give you 0 internal battery drain and cool the camera. I've tested it for +5 hours on 4K30fps internal recording and 1080p/30fps out over HDMI to atem mini video switcher. It did not overheat
First time I've heard about he dummy battery solution. great tip!!

for the 2nd solution, can you plug it to a v mount battery or a NPF battery ?
Very useful tip about dummy batt, thank you! So you can take 4k60p much longer than usual, I assume? any drawbacks?

If i use the zv-e1 as a webcam for streaming at home, and use USB-C do i need a dummy battery?
Good video and interesting tips!
@@andrearoscaphotography thanks! Hope It helps 👍🏻
Good video. Thanks!
@@FrankReiter of course 👍🏻
Does it overheat on 1080p video or only for higher resolutions?
Instead of using a dummy battery, can you just use external power from a USB connection?? Will that work just as well?
Hello! What do you suggest: is the dummy battery ok for TH-cam recording? (I need 4/5 hours recording on ecamm via hdmi, not internal recording)
Yes, the dummy battery is perfect for powering the camera over long durations of time.

In any testing that I've done a dummy battery has completely prevented overheating.

interesting tips, will the dummy battery prevent over heating or just prolong it ? will it work for something like 8 hours of livestreaming ?

I just saw that it might only overheat in 4K 120 fps, can you confirm this information?

Tested the dummy battery, not really helps. The dummy battery is as much hot as the normal battery when taking off of the overheated camera.

pretty sure the flap on the battery door is not exclusive to the ZV-E1 for overheating since Sony puts it on almost all their cameras

None of these suggestions are convenient. Sony should upgrade the hardware. Period.
