Caltech is the academic equivalent of US Navy Top Gun School at Naval Air Station Miramar. A yearly intake of less than 300 freshmen is an accredited club of technology, and that is exactly what Caltech is. This school cannot and should be compared to any other institute of technology or technical university.
I look at Cal Tech and MIT as specialized schools like Art schools or Julliard .. very niche schools ... where only the most stem-oriented students are going to even look to apply.
My elder kid is at Caltech Class of 2027 as an international student. Caltech never implemented affirmative action. Post joining Caltech conducted a survey and found that any case incoming class students had appeared for SAT hence it made sense to implement test mandatory policy. It is the best institution with world class top notch research opportunities
@@cl10367 No other extracurriculars except for club positions and awards at the school level. High gpa though, but my school has extreme grade inflation. As far as I was told (informed personally), they had an interaction with one of the AOs and found some common ground and that allegedly led the AO to help push the application. There could've been other factors I wasn't aware of as Caltech does have a thorough application review process but I'm not in a position to say what/what didn't get the person in

As you stated in a previous video, it's hard to tell what is going on until we go back to a test required regime.
Will say that someone I know who got in this year had a 1320 SAT
@@Pyrolite To caltech? Did they solve cold fusion or something?
