    The ignorance is real. Why do you people worry so much about the weekly payment. At the end of the day he's doing the same exact work as a company driver while making more money and potentially paying off a truck. I dont think anyone should lease to pay the truck off because you end up paying way more than the truck is worth but, at the very least its a opportinity to make money faster to buy your own used truck. When you add training to the scenario a real hustler could have used truck money in less than a year. Worst case scenario is it doesnt work for you and you take advantage of the walk away lease and go back to being a company driver. Only a coward wouldn't at least try it and then bad mouth someone for having the balls to at least try!

      @michaelkeefer6799 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not a fake post. I bring home around 1100 a week as well with only running 1800-1900 a week. Plus I have no cost full benefits and a pension. I don't normally go by my mileage rate though because we get pin pay and delay pay as well and that all plays a factor. I can make $46 in 20 minutes in pins at a terminal. That is the equivalent of almost $130/hr. Can't do that consistently but that is where a lot of money comes from. I normally work around 50 hours for that pay. I'm also home every day and have a start time. What time I come home is unpredictable but that is just the nature of the job. But if I put in another day, worked a 60-65 hour week I would bring home around 1400-1500 depending on the week.

    • @brentb5303
      @brentb5303 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@michaelkeefer6799 Ok, I guess I stand corrected. You are pretty transparent about how you reach that number. I was thinking he was referring to a job based solely on millage pay. I have a strange arrangement with the guy I drive for. I get 25% of whatever I put on the truck each week and I'm not responsible for fuel, repairs, and I have an actual company credit card so any scale tickets or whatever comes up for supplies is covered. He buys me dinner all the time which is nice. Anyway, I do a little bit of everything for him. Local LTL, long haul LTL, OTR dry van, but mostly OTR flatbed. The truck gets paid for every stop on top of mileage depending on the contract for LTL so I should have taken that into account. So many people are full of shit that I kind of jumped on that guy which isn't fair. Sounds like you got a pretty sweet deal going on. To me there's those jobs that pay very well out there but run you 2,500 to 3,000 a week. Sounds like you can make a good living off of a lot less which is ideal long term. I don't want to throw down 3,000 miles a week. That is why I like flatbed. Same money but you get to get out of the truck and do something else.

      My husband did OTR with prime, never really made much, finished his contract, went local for JB hunt and that sucked too, delivered to a grocery store called Giant, we live in PA, he is now a "Peapod" Delivery driver for Giant, he basically drives a commercial non-cdl truck and brings groceries to peoples kitchens, he has been there for just over 4 years now and he makes 65,000 a year doing it. He said hes likely to break 70,000 this year. Full benefits for us and our kids, he gets 3 weeks paid vacation a year since hes been there for 4 years, he has 401k and they match 5%, and he works 5 days a week 10 hours a day and home everyday and 2 days off. I think OTR drivers are VERY underpaid.

    My only thought was always that “yes If I work for prime for 5 years I can have a house a car and etc.” but!!! I trust myself physiologically and driving! When you train, you drive for 11 hrs and sleep when the student is driving (eventually). “you are putting someone in your truck and putting your life in their hands (new driver), and hoping for the best! Again, “you don’t know their background and you don’t know how well they can handle the road! To me Prime nor any company pays enough for me to lay in my bunk and not know if I’m going to wake up again! I have been a driver for many years, yes! Ups and downs! But I know at the end of the day my life and my safety are always in my hands! And believe me, an accident can happen to anyone including me. but at the end, at least my family will be able to be comfortable knowing that I did everything possible to survive! In my opinion it is really messed up and wrong that truck drivers has to go through so much bullshit (being a trainer) to make a decent check! Again just my opinion!

    • @robertbenoit5374
      @robertbenoit5374 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I will tell you this as a trainer....you will know in the first hour if you can trust the person that you are training. There are more things to consider but that is why when I take a student for the team training, I super solo the first load so I can see if they are a good safe driver and I feel comfortable sleeping while they are driving. I can tell you from my own experience that you will not get a lot of sleep with a student. I told mine wake me up if you need me. He only woke me up a couple of times. For the most part I recommend if you are going to train that you take them through the student driver part and then the teaming. Mainly because you are getting someone else's student. they are going to argue with you about things like how to setup in order to back in because they were taught a certain way by the first trainer. That is a real life experience btw. Good luck with training.

    Thanks for the info!
    To put the time off into perspective. Taking 9 weeks off sounds like a lot. Working a normal 40 hour a week job, you will take almost 15 weeks a year off in just weekends. Most jobs also include 2-4 weeks of vacation and maybe some type of paid sick leave. I get 4 weeks of vacation, 2 weeks of paid sick leave, and two weeks of holiday time off per year. So, I take off ~23 weeks per year, ~8 of them are paid. The rest are weekends.
    If you figure up the amount of hours worked per week as a truck driver it typically comes out to 80+ hours, if you are including all worked hours. Even the ones you don't log. I was working 100+ hours per week when I was a driver. When you start figuring that you are working 2-3 jobs and calculate your hourly rate, trucking sucks. That is why I left the industry.

If you kept that truck for 4 yrs you would have paid $228K back to Prime just for the truck. Again I'm not making an argument, and I'm glad it's working for you, but I couldn't do it after adding up and looking at the numbers.

      The short answer, depends. A lot depends on smarch and rights as applies to your what area of the country you want to work in. The more difficult hurdle is finding a company that will take you with little or no experience in oilfield Trucking. While there are some companies that may avoid hiring women, I think they're just as many more that will hire a woman just to show that they are an equal opportunity employer. Many companies want one to two years of oil field Trucking experience before they will hire you, so where do you get the experience is always the question. The best bet is to find a smaller companies that are more flexible and sometimes are more needy and finding a driver quickly. Of course this creates greater risk and having steady employment though. It is easy to get into a situation where they need drivers this month and will hire you, but by next month they're short on work and guess who's the first to go. If you're serious about getting into the oil field work though even a month experience will help to get the next job, and then the next. I have been lucky and stumbled into a pretty good outfit to work for and have stayed with my first oil field job for 7 years. That is pretty unusual. Good luck!

    If you don't want a life back at home and you want to be awake long hours training perfect strangers, then by all means leasing will make you money. Don't forget to set aside your quarterly taxes. When you go home for home time, that truck payment still comes out. When the truck is broke down, that truck payment still comes out. You're going to buy all the fuel too.

Are any lease ops force dispatched? Or just company? And is the pay by load (not miles) a lease op thing? Im fearful of being. Company,.mile, force, then getting stuck in traffic, or with shippers who load/unload when it suits them... again being new, im trying to understand it all Great vid thx

    • @CrazyBags
      @CrazyBags  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No forced dispatch for lease and the % pay is for lease, company drivers are paid by the mile, the choice between company and lease is always a tough one and I highly recommend new drivers start company and work on putting together a system that makes them successful before leasing
