    :: Cook Me Food ::
    These sugar cookies are one of those multi-generation cookie recipes that our family loves. It’s simple and fool proof, you can whip up this sugar cookie anytime. And as with any classic, this is my grandmother’s signature cookies. Sweet, chewy, buttery and delicious!
    You'll need:
    • 2 ¾ cup (358g) all-purpose flour
    • 1 tsp baking soda
    • ½ tsp baking powder (Optional: However, using it creates more lift)
    • 1 cup (225g) unsalted butter (room temperature)
    • 1 large egg (room temperature)
    • 1 ½ cup (300g) white sugar + more for coating
    Makes 24 cookies.
    Cool. Serve. Enjoy!
    :: HELPFUL HINTS ::
    Q: Why are my cookies not spreading, dry or crumbly?
    A: You may have added too much flour.
    DO... (spoon-and-level method)
    Fluff the flour in the container before scooping it out. Lightly spoon the flour directly into the measuring cup until it mounds well above the top of the measuring cup. Using the back of the dinner knife (non-serrated side is facing the flour), sweep the knife over the top of the cup to remove the excess flour.
    DON'T...
    Scoop the flour from the container directly with the measuring cup. Shake or tap the cup with the spoon to pack down the flour. (These steps will more densely pack the flour into the measuring cup, resulting in too much flour)

    Just made these with SRF,salted butter, vanilla and cinnamon extract and they are quite good. Tip: don’t flatten the cookies out too much on the pan and keep the cookie balls small. I did two batches and the best batch was finished in 7-8 minutes. 11 minutes made for crunchy cookies with some brown on the sides and bottom

      I know it’s a late comment! But you can always add vanilla extract and sometimes nutmeg to give the cookies more flavor and kind of detract from the baking soda/powder flavor. Vanilla extract gives cookies more depth generally anyways, just don’t add more than 1/2 a teaspoon for recipes you haven’t tried modifying before.

    • @cookmefood
      @cookmefood  2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Hello! @Aquaticproducts. Normally with 2 and ¾ cups of flour (in this recipe), cookie dough should not be overly wet or sticky. However, if it’s too wet, you can either chill it longer (more than an hour) or add more flour. If you use the latter technique, try adding 1 tablespoon of flour at a time and mix until combine. You do not want to add too much, as you’ll end up with crumbly and dry cookies that don’t spread. Hope this helps.😊

    If a cup of butter is too much, apple sauce can be used as a substitute, however when baking you must flatten cookies (less butter, less slippery/oily). This is also good because this recipe has more dry than wet, so applesauce will help with the mixing.

      Hello @Florida Jam! I am so happy to hear this😊. Thank you so much for trying the recipe and for letting me know how the cookies turned out for you. As for the eggs, if one large egg is unavailable, two small eggs would work perfectly fine as well. Happy holidays!🎄

    Definitely saving this video! You can change what sugar you're using (all white, dark brown, a mix of white and light brown, etc.) and even add salt (I tried it with salted butter) and they're all turn out great (albeit with different taste & texture).
    Oh, and I did end up changing how long to cook them based on when the dough starts cracking. Seems to be easier to guage when its done, considering everyone's oven is different even when set at 350°F

    I recently made these. I added a dash of vanilla extract, and I had to use a spoon to push down on the cookies midway through baking and added a little bit of cinnamon. Otherwise they turned out pretty good.

    I adjusted the recipe a slight bit to fit my taste. (If you're interested in trying it ...) The cooking time is perfect at exactly 11 minutes. I use bread flour instead of all purpose and I only add 2 1/2 cups of that flour instead of 2 3/4. It had a powder like taste to it, I didn't like with the extra 1/4 cup (all purpose and bread). I added one tsp of vanilla extract to give a touch more flavor and I don't roll them in sugar. I don't like the granulated feel and it doesn't hurt to leave out a little sugar for something already pretty sweet.
    Anyways, I didn't have a go to Sugar cookie recipe, with a couple tweaks it's perfect. Thanks for posting it, I really appreciate it!

    The only thing I changed was the added sugar after you roll the dough in to a ball. My son loves cinnamon so I just add some cinnamon on some and left it out on others. Either way so delicious and ez. Thank you so much for sharing❤

    My family loves them! I made some yesterday and now today they called demanding that I make more lol! I was surprised only because I felt like I could taste the baking soda but no one else could? Other than that they were great and so easy to make, tweaking a few things this time to suppress that taste. But overall awesome recipe!! Thanks!

      Hello. Thank you so much for trying out the recipe. I am very pleased that your family liked the cookies. I am sorry to hear about the baking soda taste you experienced. It’s possible that it may have formed tiny clumps. Sifting the flour along with the leavening agents before gradually adding it to the wet mixture may address the issue.

      @@cookmefood thank you so much, I cut back the amount slightly and a pinch more baking powder instead, also added vanilla extract, they were perfect!! Definitely a staple in my home now! Thanks!
