- STAGE 1 Part I - Cycling UK Rebellion Way. 40Km route.
From Diss Mere, head out the town towards the common at Wortham Ling. I meet two other cyclists following the route west along the Waveney River valley. See the windmill at Thelnetham. Some off route parts through the West Harling Heath. And into Thetford where there's good resupply shops and the Castle Mound.
As always excellent, great blend of information, history and scenary with some dodgy Euro disco music thrown into the mix! What's not to like....

Hi Andrew, I really enjoy your cycling videos and this one in particular because it features lanes and villages which are local to me and which I have cycled along many times since I moved to Norfolk 27 years ago. Great to see familiar places along your route. Regarding the source of the two rivers I understand that they start in two ditches either side of the B1113 between South Lopham and Redgrave, the Waveney on the east side of the road and the Little Ouse on the west side and there is a county boundary sign a short distance away. Hello Steve. Thanks for watching and your great comment. You are right about the sources of the two rivers. I wanted to see the windmill and that was a convenient place to mention the "significance" of the diverging rivers, and I indicated the true source locations as "...somewhere just over there in the woods", and hope i pointed in the right direction! Never cycled that part of Norfolk before, looks like it’s well worth a visit. Keep up the good work with the videos, always enjoy all the historical stuff👍 Btw if you cycle round my way don’t let my grandson see you as he’ll shout out “hoy mate you should be wearing a helmet” 😂🤣

Seems ironic with the military training ground nearby as Thetford is famous as the location of Dad's Army with a great museum to the show in the town. Having military history both fact and fiction😊😊
Yes, Daddy's Army closing credits shows the Platoon "advancing" over heath land with smoke bombs going off...this was filmed at STANTA (Stamford) training Area. (also filmed at other Norfolk locations)👍🪖

Enjoyable and informative I am looking forward to doing it with a small group over 4 days in May. Thinking of a road Endurance bike with cyclo-cross tyres would these be suitable over the muddy bits.
Good luck, and as for bike/tyre choice 👍🏻 . There's nothing too awful that I've encountered that requires tractor tyres!😆🚴🏼
