      Well not everybody but usually several do. I saw one guy a few months ago about 3 coaches down from us getting ready to leave and I was watching him fiddling with his jacks. He couldn't get one of them up. I finally walked over an asked him what's going on. It was their first time out. He didn't know anything about his coach and had no tools. No tools can you believe that? I ended helping him fix the jack and get him on his way.

    We were very fortunate that the previous owners installed vent covers on all the vents. We live in Oregon so vent covers are a must. We get too much rain here to not have them covered. I love your videos! They are very helpful and have made me aware of a lot of things I should be doing but didn’t realize I needed to. Preventative maintenance is so important in these expensive houses on wheels.

    We just bought a used trailer and I needed to clean it from top to bottom. These vents are my last piece. There is definitely mold/mildew on the vent lid between lid and cover. I'll get up there (with someone by the ladder) with these cleaners and hope I can find the screws. I tried earlier but the cover seemed to be sealed down. I don't think I was looking in the right place. This was VERY helpful! You have a good attitude. Thank you.

      And thank you for the kind words 🔧
      My main motive for doing what I do is to help RVer's not make money. I see so much on the road where RVer's need help. Sometimes a lot of help. By doing these videos, many of them-in return-buy whatever they need thru my Amazon Store. It's helps with all the time and effort that goes into these videos. It takes about a week for each video. So it's not a business per se', but I do appreciate the pay back for my efforts. Remember, I'm retired too.
      Maine is such a beautiful place and without a doubt our favorite destination.

    So true. We're newbies and 6 months into the purchase, we developed a leak. It was under warranty so we took it in, they put about 5 inches of dicor on , but the leaking remained. I got up there to investigate and all it was was cracked and broken vent lids. $15 per lid. No leak. If it had had rain guards it wouldn't have been a problem.

    Happy Thanksgiving, Martin and Joanie! Today was the perfect weather to climb on top of my rig to install the roof vent cover I purchased through the link on your site. Again, thanks so much to you both for creating such simple to follow but in-depth knowledge on the care and maintenance of an RV. Know that you are giving this 60 year old woman, who has never owned an RV before, confidence to feel she can handle anything that comes alongs with the correct tools in hand and step-by-step directions. Looking forward to tomorrow when I provide maintenance to the retractable steps and affix carpet pads (knowledge gained through another one of your wonderful videos). My husband is cracking up by the joy each project is bringing me but also impressed by my knowledge gained. He must have heard, "Well, Martin recommends..." or "The way Joanie does it is..." a thousand times already. @@RVstreet I just posted a link to your vent cover video on an RV Facebook site I'm a member of along with a pic of the vent that I installed (purchased through the link you provided). Someone just asked me if the fan cover opens all the way with the vent cover installed. I told them it didn't but it didn't impede the working of the fan. The question came up as to why you chose to install this vent cover and not one that is taller to allow for the fan to be fully opened. I told them I'd ask you and get back to them.

    • @RVstreet
      @RVstreet  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jeanettejeffrey3896 I got this style and brand because:
      1) The way they are designed they create a lot more wind Turbulence-or draw- within the cover which draws out more air from the RV when you turn on the fan.
      2) They're smaller, less wind resistance while underway
      3) Easy install and easy to clean once a year
      4) During nice weather, we open our vents and with the covers on it provides a nice quiet breeze throughout the coach with no whistling noise thru the cover
      5) They're way cheaper that other brands and do a fantastic job. We bought 3 of them. I love saving money and hate spending high prices on so called "special RV parts".
      The RV fan lid that cranks open, almost opens all the way but it just doesn't matter. These covers create plenty of draw.

      @@mariehattenburg5560 I believe it was at Harbor Freight and in the back of the store they sell a pack-I believe it was a pack of 6-of interlocking rubber pieces that you'd put on a garage floor to provide a more cushion area to stand on. I trimmed off the puzzle locking edges, then with a razor knife cut the remaining rubber pieces into strips, taped two together to form my knee pads. I was able to make several of these pads out of one box. And I think the box cost something like $18 or so. 💕

    While roof vent covers do help a tiny bit, and allow you to vent without rain or bugs coming in (mostly), they still produce immense heat in the Summer's hottest days if you're not protected by shade.
    I know from personal experience.
    I had to get those thick 2" vent cushion insulators to shove up in there from the inside. The frame still produces heat that's transferred from the exterior part, but nothing near what it was doing. And the vent covers can increase your chances of leaks if it storms hard, so you have to caulk around the bottom gap, at least on your higher side.

    • @RVstreet
      @RVstreet  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your comment...
      And the vent covers can increase your chances of leaks if it storms hard, so you have to caulk around the bottom gap
      The larger white vent covers that-I showed in this video-that mounts OVER the standard factory roof vents, absolutely do not increase or cause any leaks. Also, there's no place or a need to caulk around anything. Look again on how they are mounted. If anyone has leaking going on around their main cranking vents it's not the vent covers I demonstrated, it's the crank out vent covers that I serviced. Those roof vents do need to be sealed with Dicor self leveling sealant and should be check annually.
      Now if you do get into a bad weather blowing rain storm, then by all means crank your roof vents in until storm is over.👍

    I've owned my Okanagan Pick-Up Camper since 2012. Never heard of vent covers. What a great idea.
    I have a question. How can I raise the center of my roof, between the AC and the Moon Window, to where it was when I bought the camper?. It has become a low spot and puddles up there now, slowly seeping water into the Moon window seal (fixed many, many times). Eventually the puddle dries into a funky growth I need to bleach 4 or more times a year.

I have a 2001 Country Coach with a one piece fiberglass roof and have a question...In Florida now, we have literally 95% humidity every morning. My windshield is streaked from the roof condensation runoff daily. I plan on washing the roof tomorrow prior to installing all the above and was wondering if you would recommend some type of liquid wax for the roof (in lieu of hand-waxing) that may protect from future streaking? Would 303 work on the roof or be to slippery? Thanks in advance. Jack

    • @RVstreet
      @RVstreet  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jack 😝
      I hear ya loud and clear on the streaking. 😂 I decided to treat my roof once and for all to eliminate that, reflect heat, keep it from being slippery and makes it easy to wash. Waxing the roof is just another maintenance thing I don't need in my life. Waxing the roof is a BIG job. But don't do some of these other bone head remedies that some RVers do like apply liquid floor wax and other home brew solutions. You'll be sorry. I just can't recommend any other wax because that means you'll have to be doing that a couple of times a year. 303 will make it slippery for sure. Here's what I did:

    Wonder if the Clorox Spray has any affect on TPO or EDPM roofs.

    • @RVstreet
      @RVstreet  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well I don't think that's going to be a problem because your vent edges are sealed with Dicor self leveling sealant which gives you a protective border. Then the vent covers are attached to the sides of your vents. So if you look closely at the video, our roof is not exposed at all. You're just cleaning the vents, the blades and the inside of the covers, therefore no Clorox spray is going to get on the roof material. But if you want a little added comfort, take a couple of large old towels up there with you and spread them out around the vents while you clean. 😃

      The screens can be removed from inside but you have to take out the whole plastic housing it sits in (4 screws) to do that. Easy to do but kind of a hassle. The other easier way to do it is to vacuum the screens from the inside and then from the roof crank open the vents and vacuum the top side.

    Yeah, I really like my vent covers, but they do let water in with horizontal rain and a big storm…..

      I don't recall this ever happening but yes I could see how it could. Maybe we just closed ours during big storms.🤷🏼‍♀️
