Here is some information on Ren's story, in case you didn't already know. I gathered it from old newspaper interviews, articles, and Ren's livestreams and posts where he discussed his condition. My comment has been copied and pasted by someone below, but I have since added some new information he missed. Ren Eryn Gill is a British musician/independent artist; born in Wales on March 29, 1990, or ‘91 (depending on which source you cite), he grew up in Brighton. Ren pursued a career in music from an early age. In 2009, while studying music performance at Bath Spa University, he began to experience health issues and was struggling to attend his lectures. In 2010, he was signed by Sony Records and was working on an album when his health deteriorated to the point where he was unable to continue and subsequently dropped by Sony. Ren's illness often kept him in bed for up to 23 hours daily. Ren was initially misdiagnosed with depression, bipolar disorder, and chronic fatigue syndrome, which led him to experience psychosis. It would take seven years before a doctor in Belgium finally correctly diagnosed Ren with autoimmunity, Lyme disease, and resulting damage to the brain, organs, joints, and PTSD. Ren eventually underwent stem cell therapy in the United States, which improved his health, but it has not been a cure. Ren is currently in Canada for more treatments, including surgeries, and will have to be there for at least six months (Summer of 2023). Ren’s Canadian doctor discovered that Ren also developed a condition called Mast Cell Activation Disorder, which has affected the myelin sheath in his brain, his thyroid, adrenals, as well as his bones/joints. Ren stated: "It's a lot to wrap my head around having to be away from friends, family, and a successful career, and almost feels like a total juxtaposition to the fact that my music is blowing up right now and spreading to all corners of the world, but that's life, we take the good with the bad." Ren’s recent wisdom tooth removal went well, but he is currently battling an infection following cavitation surgery, and he is not feeling well. Let's keep supporting Ren as he undergoes his treatments. Check out and subscribe to his channel, listen to some of his earlier work, like and comment on his performances, and let's lift Ren's spirits. If you are a believer, pray for him. Probably the 1000th time I’ve seen this and I still nearly cried again. This is probably the most powerful piece of music/art I’ve seen in my 36 years on earth. I suffer myself as a lot of us do. Since discovering this track and rens other music, I duno, I’ve just been in a much better place. Like he said I may never win but desperately clinging and fighting to stay in the light just makes those dark days that much harder. I’m not sure we will ever be able to show ren how huge and powerful this track is to people it’s touched as equally. I just hope he finds peace and happiness and prosperity from it. ❤️
I found Ren months ago just a random thing and I have Facebook and I was like oh crap. And I listens to one track and realize that there is something extremely special going on here. And I have shared it and every single possibly way that I can and I have listen to as much of his work that I can find and what is not important is you or me what is important is this is a man’s journey through something terrible and we need to make sure we understand that and be supportive.
Ren has talked about bands like The Police, The Clash and The Sex Pistols as influences, but with his band The Big Push he has also covered Black Sabbath, Bob Marley and Sting to name just a few. Clearly Eminem and Plan B are influences too and he is an excellent rapper.
Lilly, I ♥ your facial reactions to the amazing REN, he's talking to his other self, he sufferers from Lymes disease, sick for some 10 yrs and wrote these amazing lyrics & music whilst sick; he's quite brilliant
Loved the reaction Lilly Jane. Ren is a genius and a masterclass in storytelling. I hope you continue down his rabbit hole, you won't be disappointed. Other songs to react to. Sick Boi, The Hunger, Losing it, Chalk outlines live, Jenny,Screech, and Violet.🙏
Great reaction. “Hi Ren" is the song that put Ren on everyone's radar since December; it went viral and has garnered more than 6 million views since its debut, but he has been creating great music for more than ten years. Ren’s music videos are generally recorded live, often in a single take, although not necessarily the first take, and from various camera angles. His release, "Sick Boi," is almost another chapter to "Hi Ren." Many of Ren’s songs resonate with people because he addresses struggles that many others face every day. Ren plays multiple instruments (acoustic, electric, and bass guitar, piano, drums), has impressive vocals, is an excellent storyteller, and is quite the philosopher and poet. He is considered by many a modern bard; he calls his music “bardcore.” Ren’s earliest recordings on TH-cam are from his time in a band called “Trick The Fox,” consisting of Ren and his buddies Charlie and Tommy. Unfortunately, the band performed only briefly due to Ren’s onset of health issues. They are very talented. A fun clip to watch is “The Mash Up.” Ren’s trilogy "The Tale of Jenny/Screech/Violet" has been likened to a Shakespearean tragedy and is a prime example of his genius; it is a master’s class in storytelling. The three acts are haunting, and the conclusion will catch you off guard. The trilogy needs to be watched in the order given, as this is the flow of the storyline and is best watched as a whole rather than piecemeal. Ren’s collaborations with Chinchilla (“Chalk Outlines,” “How to Be Me,” “Sexual Healing,” “One Dance/Drunk in Love”) are beautiful and showcase his singing voice. His live music videos are especially impressive. Ren's personal reflections are threaded through many of his songs; "Insomnia," "Depression," “Diazepam," “Penitence,” “Dear God,” “Heretic,” “Dominos,” his "Freckled Angels" album, just to name a few, all deserve a listen. His song "Money Game" (Part I & II) is another recommendation, although it is less of a personal song than it is an indictment of greed and the resulting injustices in this world. Ren’s Hip Hop/Rap style songs are all worth checking out if you enjoy this genre; they are pretty amazing. Check out “The Hunger,” “Genesis,” “What You Want,” “Losing it (FISHER rap retake),” “Right here, right now (Fatboy Slim one shot retake),” "Life is Funny," “Love Music (Parts 1, 2, and 3),” “Crucify Your Culture,” “Power,” and his latest release, “Bittersweet symphony (The Verve retake).” As I recently discovered, Ren also recorded a cover of “Can't Help Falling In Love (Elvis Cover),” that is simply beautiful. Then there are his performances with Sam Tompkins (“Blind Eyed,” “Earned it /Mans World / Falling,” “Walking on the moon/No Diggity”), Eden Nash (“Humble,” “Ocean”), Bibi (“Crutch,” “Ahiahiaoha”), Molly McKinna (“Penitence”), his former bandmate, Romain Axisa (“French Song”), which are all great. Ren's performances as a member of the band "The Big Push" (which unfortunately broke up), their busking (street performances), concerts, and their live recordings, are awesome and well worth checking out. Ren's covers of "I Shot the Sheriff," "Wade in the Water," "An Englishman in New York," “Bongo Bong,” “War Pigs,” the songs "Oh My Woman," “Swan Song,” “Sweet Little Lady," "It's Alright," "Watch Out," “Dignity,” and so many others are equally impressive. In anticipation of his stay in Canada for more treatments, Ren prepared some music ahead of time to be released over the next six months that he expects to be gone. He released “Sick Boi” and “Bittersweet Symphony (The Verve retake),” which is another masterful work.
@Wagwan This comment is my work entirely, and I adjust it occasionally to fit the reaction or to add new information. People have asked me to create a Wikipedia page as there currently isn't one for Ren. Some people have copied and pasted my Ren comments verbatim, especially the one regarding his background. I guess imitation is the highest form of flattery. Resy assured I am not a chatgp bot. Lol
@@PropGuru702 No need to apologize, lol. It is a rather lengthy comment and it is easy to miss the short mention. I do appreciate your reply. God bless.
This is art of transcendent beauty and an *important* song. Artists often struggle with imposter syndrome. There’s a movie starring Olivia Munn called “Violet” that rings of this and was a transformative experience for me-much the same as this song resonates. As a person who’s never been able to escape negative self-talk and imposter syndrome, *realizing* that I can exert the strength that destructive voice questions-strength that already resides within me-was sooo important. It takes time to push past the negativity-to make your own voice stronger, but if anyone out there is struggling with this, please please please *know* that you can do it. *Know* that I believe in you… but you don’t need me to-just like you don’t need the shroud of doubt that feels first of protection and then as a prison. You are *stronger* than that voice. You are stronger than you can *possibly* know… until you push back with softness or aggression-your choice.
This song hits home for me. This is how I ran across your channel. I’ve been up all night fighting with myself, mental illness is so hard to deal with.

Awesome react and commentary. You could actually see how you changed throughout the song. I think he did an awesome job with this song. I quite like a lot of his solo stuff and whilst playing/singing in 'The Big Push'. I first became ill at 23. I am now 51, and illness still plagues me. Songs like this help.
What do you have? I developed severe Crohn’s anxiety and panic attacks because of it also had to drop out of High School last Semester of Grade 12. Had several false starts going to College and then subsequently had to have Surgery when the other shoe dropped. It's been a roller coaster the last 20 Years. I got my Welding certification and was in an abusive relationship and then again had to quit and have Surgery last Year. 43 now just trying to survive. I don't want any Pity don't get me wrong, it's just kind of annoying at a certain point.
@@Len_M. I get the annoying part. I blame myself for the initial problems. I had poor eyesight growing up, but saved up and got laser surgery on my eyes around 18. This opened a whole world of sports for me. I started karate, rock climbing and hit the gym. Karate became an obsession, with me teaching and training 30+ hours a week, whilst also spending another 10-15 hours in the gym, fitting in rock climbing, running my own business and doing my house up. Something gave, I collapsed while at a DIY store and went from doing 100 press ups and 360 sit ups a night to not being able to climb a set of stairs. CFS/FM was not known at the time and I went through a plethora of tests, with everyone telling me, I was fine. Pain, fatigue, depression and brain fog followed me for around 16 years, with many, many relapses. Eventually, I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, though there was(and still is) no effective way of curing it. I did improve... slowly. I got to the point I could work again. Unfortunately, a poor choice of company left me working 60-70 hours a week, whilst being paid for 40. The job was physically draining too, with a lot of pressure placed on my lower back and knees, but I stayed there for 6 years. Jobs were not easy to find, and bills needed paying. My back progressed to the point of being disabled, at which point I was let go from the company, even though there were options for me to work. I had a back operation, which helped for a year or two, before the pain and movement issues came back with vengeance. I did find a really nice firm, who allowed me to work from home and did not care if you were disabled. It was a nice reprieve, making me feel at least useful for a bit. For a while, I almost enjoyed myself. Then Covid arrived... Covid hit me hard, coming extremely close to killing me, and leaving me with some nice gifts when it left. It damaged my lungs, throat, vocal cords and vagus nerve, as well as making my already foggy brain even worse. Every time I cough now, I black out, and, with my damaged throat, I cough a lot. Still recovering from this, still blacking out on daily basis. At least I can speak again now, but I am tired and doing anything is a major struggle. I am just so very, very tired of it all at this point. *sigh*
@@pklemming China should have major sanctions for what it did. They knew the Biologists who first were infected with Covid at the Lab and everyone covered it up, gaslit the public calling everyone who discussed the Lab leak theory. It's disgusting. I’m on Biologic Medication which lowers your Immune System, plus eventually, I was on Prednisone as well which also severely lowers your Immune system. I basically go to the Dr’s, Pharmacy and then Home. I did have to get an MRI in June 2020, plus a Colonoscopy. I'm pretty sure I had it at one point but luckily nothing happened except a prolonged cough (as far as I know). I told the Dr. I'd rather die than get a bag (ileostomy not colostomy), but I couldn’t do that to my Mom so I agreed to have the surgery. It's not as bad as I imagined (I don't think I would have agreed to a Colostomy though), I can eat things that I could never before. It kinda sucks though, because they thought I was going to severely hemorrhage so they have to still take that section out plus reconnect my Small intestine. Hopefully, your symptoms resolve. Interesting you mentioned 21 Pilots because he made me think of them too when I found his channel yesterday. I've gone through more than half of his playlist after I first saw Hi Ren. I'm totally hooked on the guy. He's such a fricking genius! You should listen to "Violet's Tale" and "Jenny's Tale" as well. they are on close level to this one but at the same time not quite. You'll get it if you listen to them!
Ren will probably grant you an interview if you ask. I would like to see it if you do. In many interviews he mentions that while he is being treated for Lyme disease in Canada, talking to people online is his current social life. He is very down to earth and likable
Hi Lilly, great reaction. A band called "Live" have a great song called run to the water that is quite deep and also one called lightning crashes. Even if you don't film a reaction I encourage you to listen to them. Don't forget to listen to this again without makeup so you can let those emotions flow through you.
I must've seen 15 or 20 reactions to this song, but you're the first one to reference Sweating Bullets. 🤘🤘🤘 When I first saw this work of performance art, I thought it was the most raw, authentic and powerful musical expression I had seen. But then I watched the Tale of Jenny and Screech (the full-length version that includes Violet's Tale), and I was once again floored by how adept Ren is at portraying the less savoury sides of real life.
Great reaction rocker girl! Give Ren's chalk outlines with Chinchilla. Amazing piece of work that shows this dudes depth. Love your metal reactions as well. Happy new subscriber here!!
There are so many songs that have dramatic images of darkness and death, but it's rare to find one that has the same vivid, badass imagery for life and hope. (Right back to Milton - everybody knows Satan's best speeches from Paradise Lost, but Paradise Regained made no impression at all.) Speaking of which, another band that has won acoustic guitar is The Mountain Goats - "Amy aka Spent Gladiator 1" would be a great companion to this!

Unless one has been there it is not as impactful, and there is a lot to try to process on the first listen.
It's easily one of the most powerful statements Ren says in the experience.
I love that particular lyric. If I were the kind to get words tattooed on me, I'd seriously consider "loosen the noose on the rope."

I’m not sure we will ever be able to show ren how huge and powerful this track is to people it’s touched as equally. I just hope he finds peace and happiness and prosperity from it. ❤️
No clue what else to suggest. This is one of a kind. Once in a lifetime piece of art.
I sometimes talk to myself. That way it ensures intelligent conversation.
Thank you so much for reacting to hi Ren. Please try sick boi too, it’s kind of like part 2 for this video. Totally different vibe tho
Ren has talked about bands like The Police, The Clash and The Sex Pistols as influences, but with his band The Big Push he has also covered Black Sabbath, Bob Marley and Sting to name just a few. Clearly Eminem and Plan B are influences too and he is an excellent rapper.
Little bit of Ben Howard in his past too maybe 🎶
This is not a song. It is an amazing artistic performance!
Lilly, I ♥ your facial reactions to the amazing REN, he's talking to his other self, he sufferers from Lymes disease, sick for some 10 yrs and wrote these amazing lyrics & music whilst sick; he's quite brilliant
I'm absolutely in love with his music, he's is incredible 🔥❣️
Loved the reaction Lilly Jane. Ren is a genius and a masterclass in storytelling. I hope you continue down his rabbit hole, you won't be disappointed. Other songs to react to. Sick Boi, The Hunger, Losing it, Chalk outlines live, Jenny,Screech, and Violet.🙏
Loved, loved, loved very, very, very much your reaction.
A fun clip to watch is “The Mash Up.”
Ren’s trilogy "The Tale of Jenny/Screech/Violet" has been likened to a Shakespearean tragedy and is a prime example of his genius; it is a master’s class in storytelling.
Check out “The Hunger,” “Genesis,” “What You Want,” “Losing it (FISHER rap retake),” “Right here, right now (Fatboy Slim one shot retake),” "Life is Funny," “Love Music (Parts 1, 2, and 3),” “Crucify Your Culture,” “Power,” and his latest release, “Bittersweet symphony (The Verve retake).”
As I recently discovered, Ren also recorded a cover of “Can't Help Falling In Love (Elvis Cover),” that is simply beautiful.
Lol
@@JensRandolffalso, you should mention his very early work such as "trick the fox-mash up"
@@PropGuru702 It is already included in the summery near the top. You must have missed it.
@@JensRandolff damn. I totally did. My apologies!
@@PropGuru702 No need to apologize, lol. It is a rather lengthy comment and it is easy to miss the short mention. I do appreciate your reply. God bless.
Check his band the big push war pigs live for another side of this genius
You are stronger than you can *possibly* know…
until you push back with softness or aggression-your choice.
You must watch Ren & Chinchilla perform CHALK OUTLINE. Don't think you'll be disappointed.
This song hits home for me. This is how I ran across your channel. I’ve been up all night fighting with myself, mental illness is so hard to deal with.
I only recently heard Ren and almost immediately he has become one of my absolute favorite artists of all time. He is absolutely brilliant.
Beautiful reaction. Went to see your NF reaction to Why Did You Leave Us. You are Real. Very personable and Human. Bless you and Ren and your fans. Bye...
Gorgeous reaction, by a gorgeous young lady to a gorgeous piece of heart Work.
I've watched easily over 50 different reactions to this song. I love when he's listing off all the evil entities that his dark side embodies that you can see your eyes wide, and your head nodding at every name drop. Loved that.
told ya you would love this knowing what u talk about on here glad you listened and enjoyed i used to watch this guy busking in brighton where i live so real happy in how far his talent has taken him
I could feel the emotion in you as Ren grew. That feeling of hope triumphing over the negative side. Great reaction. Please do some more Ren, and his collaborations. They will all make you think and feel.
This brings tear's to my eyes every time I watch this.
Chalk outlines live with chinchilla is a must this guy has so much talent then the hunger for his Rap and the Tale of Jenny and Screech ( full) a three part story best watched in full ends with violets tale and so much more. ✌️❤️ New sub from Scotland 🏴
Loved the reaction my god you're pretty.. Bit distracting actually and I mean that in the nicest way possible.
This song is painful to listen to as someone who's been struggling with severe depression and anxiety for over half my life but it's such a piece of art and it's something I'll take with me as long as I live.
I've been waiting for your reaction. Here we go!!
love your reaction to this beautiful video sending love from the UK, have followed Ren for sometime now he is a genius ❤❤
REN AND BIBI , CRUTCH
The tale of Jenny and Screech (Full) is a must. After that, Losing It will get you moving.
it's dark bruv, not sure she could handle it, good call though 😊
You are the SWEETEST and CUTEST thing ever!
I felt so inspired and connected by watching you.
You win the internet for the BEST reaction to the line “when you loosen the noise on the rope”
What a beautiful light you are!!!
Perfect and brilliant!
8:20 absolutely nobody reacts to this line as they should. Thank you thank you thank you. It’s amazing how much it just breezes past people. “ some people know me as the voice that you hear when you loosen the noose on the rope.”
7:38 thats when you see him take control and your react was spot on real. new to the channel.. sub'd and patreoned... i look forward to walking back through your posts. ☮☮ & ❤❤
Awesome. Glad you got around to it
Your reaction to this was the most honest I have seen. Thank you for this. This video needs to be shared because it’s a universal truth.
The fact you just mentioned Sweating Bullets just made me melt inside 😅
GREAT reaction. Beautifully done
Your reaction is dope. Ren is dope! Hope to see you do some more reactions of him! If you want to see his singing check out Chalk Outlines! If you want to see Ren Rap check out Genesis. If you want to see more bardic story telling check out the Tales of Jenny/Screech/Violet Trilogy.
Want to see Ren pour his soul out in a poem? Check out his poem "Depression".
Best reaction to this song I’ve seen! Great job
Great reaction! Love your hair!! Killing it!
11:49 Learning to be grateful is the most powerful lesson I have ever learned in regards to maintaining a sense of happiness and peace in my life.
Great Reaction! Hope you can do an interview! And check out his diverse and big catalog - has a lot of depth in most of his songs!
Nice catch with Megadeth!
Hello Ren, meet the REAL Ren 😆🤌🤘
Every single person is unique you don’t need to worry about whether they pour the soul into something and not need to take everything with a cup of tea is it down and understand why don’t have a judge things that way because you know what somethings been a lot deeper than you can possibly imagine
They basically murdered 18 million People around the World. People like you who had complications should be allowed to sue. I thought I was going to catch it and accepted I was probably going to die. Probably a stupid question, but I’m guessing you aren’t allowed to drive?
Been a Ren Stan since 2019 and i am beyond delighted to see him finally blow up!! 🙌
Great reaction! Welcome to the rabbit hole that is Ren's music
Beautiful reaction. Thank you for your insight and positivity. ❤️
Great and spot on reaction. You got Ren in a flash
Gotta love the FLEX of getting better
He is so unique a man without genre. He has so many good songs
I am surprised I haven’t seen you react to Chalk Lines by Ren and Chinchilla. Soooo powerful!!
Omg I just found ur channel and only heard this song 1 other time and I love ur reaction to it. Definitely subscribing to u
This song was a one take shot, all live, with lapel mic. Must react to Sick Boi next, and Chalk Outlines with Chinchilla, then jump down the rabbit hole with any of his other songs
The cinematographer Samuel Perry-Falvey says the final close ups in the song were filmed afterwards so not technically a one take.
4 takes this is the one he liked.. the audio was all shot in one take perspective with multiple camera changes. He did this just before he left for Canada to continue his treatments.
Thanks for your reaction!
your reaction during loose noose rope - priceless
Genesis
The hunger
Chalk outlines
Crutch
Losing it
....lololol....ALL of them and so many more! Blessings and take care
I could tell by your mouth movements that you were trying not to cry. I hope you watch again on your own and let the tears flow, I certainly have.
At 8:25 though... wow!!! Your face goes from aww, to WTF, to Wow, to I Can't believe he said that... all in 2 seconds! Lol
First time watching one of your videos, “yoooo, Ryan Caraveo in the opening let’s go” anyways great reaction, if you’re interested I suggest reacting to NF, songs like Hope or Intro 3. Haven’t checked out the rest of your channel yet so not sure if you have or not already but I’m excited to check out what else you have!
Ren x Chinchilla - Chalk Outlines (LIVE) for a beautiful song to hear his singing voice
Jenny/screech/violet tale trilogy for a masterful Shakespearean story
The hunger for rapping skills
:)))
Thank you for calling him 'kid', makes me feel young again since we're around the same age
Ren - Jenny's Tale (Full Version) and then The Hunger, are great follow-ups to this
Lovely reaction to this gem.
Saw you holding in your tears and sadness. We all need to learn to be more vulnerable so others can do that too.
RENS Trilogy , will get you epic brilliant , also he plays live worth the look
Thank you for supporting Ren!
This is a piece of reality for the world to not just hear but understand. Peace/JT
Probably the most level headed reaction to this I have seen. You are stable girl.
You want to watch "Losing it" and "Sick Boi" by Ren I think you'll love it.
Please check out the take off Jenny and screech next! It’s super fire! The story telling is masterful!!!
Lilly, visually looking at you, your hair represents the content of the song and your face represents his last words in the video, a human being.🌹
I must've seen 15 or 20 reactions to this song, but you're the first one to reference Sweating Bullets. 🤘🤘🤘
When I first saw this work of performance art, I thought it was the most raw, authentic and powerful musical expression I had seen.
