Maybe in a way that could make him a good character for players who are new to Tekken because they don't know about the easy moves they are missing out on and are forced to get better faster due to his difficult inputs so by the time they try another easier character it makes the game seem more manageable. I don't know for sure if this is true I'm just putting my thoughts out there lol. Maybe he's bad for new Tekken players because the lack of easy moves could be discouraging idk. It probably depends on the person.

I don't think Bryan is easy, but a lot of the points made here seem like they'd be better to answer "Why is it hard to be a *great* Bryan player?" rather than "Why is it hard to be a good Bryan player?" ...
Sure, your 14F punish has a f,b input, but worst case scenario you can take an extra frame to make it a 15F launcher like everyone else.
Sure, you have to qcb to use a good low, but a lot of characters don't even have a good low. Everyone always complains about Katarina's lows, but 100% of her lows are punishable without low parry, none of the unseeable lows give any frame advantage, and the only low that does give 2 frames advantage starts at 25F. So, yes the inputs are simpler but the reward is lower and the risk is higher. I would trade Kat's df34 for Bryan's qcb+3 any day.
Sure, his d/f+1 is unconventional, but as Bryan you have so many good homing moves and counter hit tools that you can keep people in place anyways.
Sure, he uses a lot of f,f inputs but they're mostly used in combos or from a distance to engage.
Most of the argument seems to be "He has high execution to get high damage" but if you limited yourself to his easy stuff, you'd be doing damage roughly equivalent to other characters of similar difficulty. For example, (14:12) he shows this difficult combo, but even the first bit of the combo almost does as much damage as Katarina's bread and butter 15F launcher damage, and the combo before the wall is 13 damage higher.
From my yellow rank scrub perspective, all you're saying is "Bryan could be played like every other character, but then he wouldn't be amazing, he'd just be normal." But hey, I'm a scrub, what do I know?

@TheMainManSWE While I agree with most of the video, I would like to correct you on a few points.
At 10:00 you say b+1 on block is +7 but it is only +3. Not even d/f+2 is uninterruptible. On hit it is +7
10:12 -you cant even really ss Bryan. Which is wrong as all his homing moves are slow(1+2 is 18f and mach kick is 16f without the f,f input). He is particularly weak to ssr. His safe fast pokes i.e. d/f+2 and d+2 are very linear. f+3 catches ssr but it can also be stepped in the same direction.
11:10- pretty cool throws. Actually his throws are really bad now. They have been nerfing his throws since T6. The recovery frames have been nerfed to the point it doesn't give any oki except chains of misery.
Also Bryan doesn't have any good standing punishment before 14f and while standing punishment before 15f.

Sometime you accept people with 4-5 bar and they drop suddenly as low as 2-3 bar after 10 seconds of match. Then they spam snake edge, unseable lows and hopkick. Its really annoying because with the lags, it can be hard to punish and you don't always see the snake edge in time. + the fact that at green/yellow ranks (where I am), you re not used anymore to snake edge. Its wrong to says that green rank use snake edge a lot, its a lot more on blue ranks. At marauder to vanguard people start to play good, they can EWGF, low parry and use complicated flow charts, they start to know the string of each character and def better. So when you encounter a cheesy players that use fucking gimmick and snake edge all the time, it s a surprise, it always take me 1 round to understand whats going on because i'm not used to this kind of players anymore.

Lmao Bryan is NOT easy. Been playing him since Tekken 3. Bryan is so difficult at a high level, but he's the most rewarding character to play for me personally. Every single time I get a taunt into B+4 successfully at the wall and I managed to confirm that into jet upper with a huge damage wall combo, it's the best feeling in the world.
Counter hit Backsway 3 into a Backsway 4 follow up, sidestep into instant WS 1 punishes, full Crouch DF + 4 on counter hit, and blocking staggered lows and punishing them with Fisherman Slam are among the best feelings I get playing Tekken.

After I dropped snake edge and fished for counter hits and oki, I started ranking up and currently got to warrior, whiff punishing is a big thing at these ranks, but there’s a lot of things that happened... as a Bryan player everything you do is mix ups, choice making, and commitment!!! You can’t be a pssy, you have to trick yourself into believing what your going to do next, then switch it up!!! A lot may disagree with me, but I like to snake edge at times just to scare them so I can start going for dual knees or back 1 then db1+2 it works quite often, then df4 catches side steps in wake up situations once they stop side stepping use qcb 4 then switch it up to b1 or b4 jet upper on wall and idk I’m just giving some advice as a Bryan who was stuck in green ranks for awhile relying on snake edge but the real thing that got me to get out was choosing when you are going to finish your strings and mix ups with them and just really observing what kind of player your playing against and a lot of people use Bryan’s strings wrong mix it up by finishing with different Enders or not completing them and bait snake edge then go for db1+2 if you aren’t able to land a good counterhit juggle combo but also at range a good string to pressure low opponents is 3,2,1,4 or 3211 depending on circumstances stances and know your match ups from characters who got good side steps or evasive moves don’t use high strings go for other things sorry if I stopped using grammar 😂 but thanks main man

In my opinion Bryan is quite unconventional because he relies more on counter hits and space control instead of opening people up with pokes/mixups, which is done by spacing correctly with movement and timing your moves for example taunt dash to f3 to interrupt your opponent. Not to mention his taunt game in neutral, as an okizeme tool which is locked behind iws+3 combo's (because that's the best for dmg and recovery to catch techrolls) and the wall of course. This is key to being a good Bryan player and often takes time to implement in to a set, which is probably one of the reasons Knee rarely plays Bryan in tournaments anymore other than fan service and the fact his block punishment sucks ass below -14, which is hard to do in the clutch especially in a tournament. That's what makes him tricky at high level. But what about JimmyJ then? Notice how he didn't play Bryan in the online TWT tournament, that's right, he picked Dragunov. But to be honest, I agree his skill floor is relatively easy though, anyone can mash qcb+3, b+1 and orbitals, typical online style, but that will only get you so far. It's in my opinion the wrong way to play Bryan, if your spacing is bad all of those moves will be crushed by just simple offense with well timed pokes. At range 0 Bryan does struggle. I think Bryan is very comparable to Jin in terms of skill floor and skill cap, both are accessible enough to use as a starter character, but will take years and dedication to master. Although I'm not a Jin player, I feel strongly that both characters have very good and simple tools to start with and have lots of depth if you want to master. They are one of the best designed characters in the game if you ask me and probably many people will agree since they are both fan favourites.

    • @bludika
      @bludika 5 ปีที่แล้ว

yea agreed, against certain characters, he really does struggle at range 0, i personally have a tough time against characters with quick, and safe lows like drag and jack, where it's not worth the risk of block punishing since he only gets a measly ws3, so you're literally forced to get hit, low parry, OR try to orbital heel crush it, but you can risk getting floated out of orbitals at range 0, and if trying low parry, you can get mid launched.
i also say it's not much the difficulty of the inputs, like qcb, but by nature of having inputs like qcb, or ff4, his start up takes some time, a lot more than something as simple as one direction input, and that makes it tough in range 0, because you can get launched when you're in the middle of doing a qcb input, while maybe you wouldn't have if it a DB input for example.

I consider Bryan to be a beginner friendly character because he has very good frames over all, so he's actually easy to play at a certain level, but to play Bryan at an advanced level is difficult because his sway makes it harder to back dash cancel. For me, this is the primary reason you can claim that Bryan is a difficult character, but also the difficulty of utilizing his taunt optimally is a big reason as well. Essentially, Bryan is hard to play at peak level.

Talk about snake edge......I gonna say Bryan's snake edge is the easiest one to block and punish. So do not complain about the snake edge....easy to react and give u a free chance to do a 60-70 dmg combo. I don't understand why people complain about this......It doesnt means you must block the snake edge every single time. Nobody can guarantee that 'I can block every snake edge and kick their ass.' But if ur opponents keep spamming snake edge and you get hit again n again n again......Helpful hint, dude. Practice mode is your friend, use it.
When I first got the game, I use Bryan to play the Ranked Matches, and promoted to Warrior in 3 days with a 24 wins streaks. But I never tried to spamming orbital or snake edge to win. In fact I just keep working on the basic, do the whiff punish, duck the high strings(like Kings df21 dont understand why people spamming this), and if I block the moves that minus alot frames, I'll make them really hurt. Back to Tag 2 my main team Bryan and Bruce were Orange Ranks(Destroyer), right now my Bryan is Usurper, and my Bryan was stuck right here promo-demo-promo-demo-promo....
    Just like a roller-coaster :P
It's not extremely hard, but Bryan does need players know wells about both the Character and the game. and TBH, I can't believe some people said "Bryan is a cheap character....." >:0
