Because bharat benz started operations and expanding in India other manufacturers like Man, Scania, kamaz and Hino left india.... But these are very good top vehicles well established globally... Kamaz heavy trucks has built rocksolid product, which were more consume fuel for heavy load. It's owning as well running cost more than its competitors. Inspite left Indian market they have on research and demand of market, segment wise which made sustainable in heavy trucks.

FYI kamaz have won bcoz they are the only constructor team which runs on government money, where rostec is government entity, so no problem of funds. And they participate in dakar with 4 race trucks and 2 support trucks. Any company in future with such money and strategies can defeat team kamaz master in dakar. Please gain some knowledge. And the race trucks are highly maintained during all stages expect a special stage . Welcome to the world dear noob.

I was been in Kamaz India around 4 years, lots of issues there 1. Labour union 2. Poor management 3. Poor marketing. Technology and engineering is very good administration from Russian team not good.
That problem was b of bloody corrupt vectra group. Dont blame kamaz for it.

In 1980s there were Ashok leyland and tata trucks. They were not very fast but a truck rated gor 9 tons used to carry 12 tons and indian drivers were used to this much overload. Then came Ford trucks. These were very fast. A tata truck could touch 80 kmph where as a ford truck could clock 110 to 120 kmph. The problem with ford truck was it could not be overloaded. A 9 ton rated truck could carry upto 10 tons. Beyond that the rear axle tube would break. Drivers were hired to do overloading of ford truck and then running it at 100 kmph. There were breakdowns on the road and the company was shunted out. Ashok leyland company is south india based but to run the businesses it has service stations all over india. Kamaz is no small group. How can they ignore service outlets all over india. Since they are supplying to army they are robust. A good quality means higher cost . I remeber a Bedford truck came to Chandigarh from abroad. Bedford does not have any service station in india but hindustan motors Chandigarh provided service to the truck. Spares were imported and after about ten days the truck was repaired and went away.

Majority automobile companies in india are just assembly line brands thats It they dont have engines except mahindra I car segment have thier engines an now few they got from navistar. Otherwise none indian truck company makes engines bcoz they havent invested single penny on r&d.
But bro as time is changing Indian brands aren't making powerfull and good looks vechiles

Tell me in volume sales is kamaz no 1?? Indeed kamaz only sells in old soviet union countries. They tried in indian with amw that too failed. They did jv with vectra that too failed. Just bcoz they are winning dakar doesn't mean they are the best. Both are different. And i tell u as per my research kamaz failed bcoz they old ame with one product ie dump truck where as they totally ignored the 4×4 and 6×6 market in India.
