Actually if you just want to use it as a backup device or for experiment downgrading isn't really needed. If you use Sliver you can use the iOS 14 bypass method and you can stay in the iOS 12 which has better app compatibility for now. The down side of it is that the bypass is tethered. If your running out of battery or turned off your device you have to jailbreak it again and bypass it again
i once got an iphone 5 off of ebay in slate and for 16gb and it was in great condition although it ran ios 10.3.4 and original seller said LCD was damaged but it was fine.
